Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 574 - 564: Sound Source Pollution 16
Over the next few hours, Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch engaged in a spirited house-wrecking session—no, that’s not right, a match.
The two of them were surprisingly strong; a casual serve could smash a dent into the wall.
If it hit the floor, spiderweb-like cracks would appear.
And why was this happening? Naturally, it was because neither of them was any good at the game.
Let’s start with Moira Lynch. It was as if she were congenitally incompatible with racquet sports like badminton and tennis. She could serve the shuttlecock, but she couldn’t return it for the life of her.
She would aim perfectly, but the shuttlecock would always just graze past her racquet. Strange, wasn’t it?
Hugh Finch, on the other hand, was even worse than Moira Lynch.
At least Moira could get her serves in. This guy would swing and miss at least five times out of ten. Returning a shot was completely out of the question.
They were a perfect match—neither could return the other’s shots.
Eventually, they gave up and just went with the flow. They took out all the shuttlecocks, and the only rule became "don’t hit the other person."
And so, they played their way from the living room to the bedroom, from that bedroom to another, and then to the bathroom.
In short, they left a trail of destruction in every corner.
The match didn’t finally end until noon.
The two of them sat panting on the sofa, smiling as they looked at the wreckage of the living room.
Moira Lynch’s gaze drifted toward a certain spot in front of them.
Seeing this, Hugh Finch waved his hand and mouthed, "Let’s leave that one."
Not wanting to go downstairs for lunch, they simply called room service and had food sent up.
After lunch, neither of them had any intention of cleaning up the living room.
Moira Lynch sat on the sofa, casually turning on the TV and munching on snacks as she watched.
The hotel was still relatively safe for now. Besides, they were on the top floor; under normal circumstances, no one would come up.
As long as they didn’t go down, they wouldn’t run into any trouble.
She watched the news anchor report that the price of earpieces had broken another record high and that food was being panic-bought off the shelves.
Moira Lynch turned to Hugh Finch beside her and asked, "Hugh, do we still have enough food? Should we go buy some more?"
Hugh Finch replied, "All we have right now are the snacks we bought this morning. But the hotel provides three meals a day, so we shouldn’t need to buy anything. Besides, we won’t be staying here for long."
"Let’s buy some anyway, just in case. Besides, these snacks aren’t enough for me."
’Before, for the sake of the mission, she had moved all the food from her dimensional space into the air-raid shelter.’
’Truth be told, they really didn’t have much food on hand right now.’
"So that’s your real motive."
Elsewhere, the man asked the subordinate in charge of surveillance, "How many of our listening devices are still intact?"
The subordinate replied with a miserable look on his face, "Only two are left. The rest are either completely destroyed or about to be."
"You don’t think those two did it on purpose, do you? Should we go install a new set of bugs?" another person asked.
The man immediately refused. "It probably wasn’t intentional. Our methods for hiding the listening devices are very discreet; they’ve never been discovered before. Forget about reinstalling them. What if they decide to play another match?"
"Didn’t we just hear them say they’re going to buy food? Have our people follow them when they go out this afternoon. Create a little chaos for them on the way."
Hearing the man’s orders, a subordinate asked, "Sir, we’ve investigated so many people. Why are you so focused on this one individual?"
Although everyone who met the criteria was under surveillance, anyone could see how preoccupied the man was with the young man named Hugh Finch. It seemed he was convinced Hugh was the one he was looking for.
"You wouldn’t understand even if I told you. Do you believe in intuition? I’m someone who has had close contact with that Master. No one knows him better than I do."
"Although he was disguised at the time, making it impossible to see his face and even altering his voice, for some reason, the moment I saw Hugh Finch, the Master’s image merged with his in my eyes. I even felt their voices were incredibly similar."
’In that instant, it was as if a voice in his heart was telling him that Hugh Finch was the person he was searching for.’
’Not to mention, their investigation revealed that Hugh Finch’s sister, Moira Lynch, was also present at the location when the incident occurred.’
’He never believed in coincidences.’
His subordinates didn’t understand the man’s words, but they knew their opinions carried little weight and couldn’t change anything. They could only focus on doing their assigned tasks.
"Oh, right, Sir. Here is the fever reducer you asked for."
The man took the medicine, popped a pill out of the blister pack, and swallowed it dry.
He had started running a fever yesterday, but he hadn’t felt any discomfort, so he hadn’t paid it any mind.
He guessed it was probably because he had lost so much blood after severing his finger the day before, weakening his immune system and causing the fever.
However, he noticed that ever since the fever started, his "noise sickness" seemed to have vanished. The constant noise in his ears was gone, and his mind felt exceptionally clear.
If Moira Lynch were here, she would realize that the man was in the middle of a talent awakening, and it was on the verge of success.
In the afternoon, Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch went out to buy some food.
Since they weren’t in dire need of provisions, the two didn’t venture too far from the hotel.
They went to the same supermarket they had visited that morning.
Just after they entered, a huge crowd of customers suddenly surged in from outside, scrambling toward the grain section.
"Why are they all in such a hurry?" Moira Lynch asked, confused.
This supermarket was part of a global chain. Putting aside the quality of its goods, the prices could be described in a single word: expensive!
Everything inside was ridiculously overpriced.
The two of them headed to the snack and dessert aisle.
Worried that the crowd might come after the snacks once they were done with the grains, Moira Lynch stopped picking carefully and just started tossing everything into the shopping cart.
Soon, two of the largest-sized shopping carts were filled to the brim with all sorts of snacks and desserts.
Then, the two of them moved on to the frozen food section.
They bought some meat.
"I’m suddenly craving hot pot. Let’s have hot pot tonight."
With that, Moira Lynch grabbed another cart and started loading it with various kinds of meat. She bought a token amount of vegetables, followed by soup bases and dipping sauces. Before leaving, she also grabbed two cases of ice cream from the freezer.
This whole spectacle left the people who had been sent to cause trouble for them completely dumbfounded.
’Wait a minute, weren’t these two here to buy food? Why did they head straight for the snack aisle the moment they came in?’
By the time they realized what was happening, it was too late. The grains and cereals section was quite a distance from the snack aisle.
