Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 568 - 558: Sound Source Pollution 10
The next day, Moira Lynch went out with Hugh Finch.
The two of them first went to the restaurant for a meal.
It was truly the best hotel; even the breakfast selection was immense.
Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch first found a table by the window.
The breakfast was served buffet-style. To the astonishment of the other diners, Moira Lynch and Hugh Finch’s table was soon piled high with all kinds of food.
And the food was disappearing at an incredible rate.
They weren’t eating crudely, but their pace was anything but slow.
Some of the other guests who came for breakfast were stunned by the scene. A few even felt like they hadn’t come for a meal, but had stumbled into a competitive eating contest.
But most importantly, despite eating so much, both of their stomachs remained perfectly flat. It was a mystery where all that food had gone.
However, the two paid no mind to the stares. After finishing breakfast, they left the restaurant.
"What are we doing today?"
As the car started, Moira Lynch finally thought to ask about their plan for the day.
Hugh Finch said, "Before I met you, I performed divination on this game three separate times. The results indicate that the first ten days will be relatively safe, with no major life-threatening dangers.
From the eleventh to the twentieth day, it will gradually become more dangerous, and we’ll need to be careful. The final ten days will be the most perilous—one careless mistake could be fatal."
Hearing Hugh Finch’s words, Moira Lynch felt this pattern was strangely familiar.
After a moment of thought, she finally placed it.
"Isn’t this just like that island survival challenge I went through? The first ten days were safe then, too. After day ten, dangers started appearing, but they were manageable. But in the last few days? A volcano erupted and completely obliterated the entire island."
Hugh Finch remembered it as well. He frowned. "If that’s the case, we could be in real trouble."
After all, no one could predict what horrors the last few days might hold.
And while most signs pointed to this disaster being sound-related, what if they were wrong?
They had to use this relatively safe period to prepare more thoroughly.
---
Hugh Finch drove Moira Lynch out of The City of Portmire.
The car came to a stop after entering a forest.
After getting out of the car, Moira Lynch subconsciously scanned the area with her spiritual power and quickly sensed that something was off.
"The ground here has been hollowed out."
Hugh Finch nodded. "This is an abandoned air-raid shelter I found through divination. If things go south in Portmire, this can be our temporary refuge."
"An abandoned air-raid shelter? But there are clearly people inside," Moira Lynch said.
’Not just people—quite a lot of them, actually. And they all seem to be busy with something.’
"I hired them to clean and reinforce the shelter. It’s been abandoned for a long time, after all. The conditions inside are grim."
Moira followed Hugh Finch through the entrance into the shelter and saw a group of people bustling with activity.
Hugh Finch was paying generously—several times the market rate. He had also promised before they started that if they could finish the renovations within three days, he would double their pay.
As they say, money talks.
With that promise, the workers were practically working around the clock, trying to make every second count.
Someone had previously asked Hugh Finch why he would buy an abandoned air-raid shelter and spend a fortune renovating it.
Hugh Finch’s excuse was that he wanted to open a theme restaurant.
After all, once rich people get everything they want in the world, they tend to start chasing after strange, eccentric passions.
Clearly, the workers had pegged Hugh Finch as the wealthy young master of some powerful family, with more money than he knew what to do with.
Because they were using only the best materials, there was no need to air the place out after the renovations were complete; it would be ready for immediate move-in.
"When do you think they’ll be done with the renovations?" Moira Lynch asked.
"If they’re quick, they could be done today. If not, then tomorrow. But the reason I brought you here is that I need you to be my quality inspector."
"Quality inspector?" Moira Lynch gave Hugh Finch a quizzical look.
At Hugh Finch’s signal, Moira Lynch opened the Communication Corridor.
"Exactly. Use your spiritual power to see if they’ve cut any corners or if there are any spots the renovations didn’t cover properly."
"Oh, that’s all? Easy."
Moira Lynch unleashed her spiritual power, sending out countless tendrils, each a hundred times finer than a strand of hair, stretching out in all directions.
Soon, she had a crystal-clear picture of everything, inside and out, within the entire shelter.
The workers hadn’t cut any corners, but with such a tight deadline for a massive job, it was inevitable that some spots were overlooked.
With Moira’s help, they patched up the oversights. She even pointed out a few hidden field mouse holes, which they promptly sealed.
"You’ve got sharp eyes, young lady! To be able to spot a field mouse hole hidden that well," one of the workers remarked.
Moira Lynch offered a bashful smile. "I just got lucky and happened to spot it."
"So when is your brother planning to open the restaurant once it’s finished?" the worker asked curiously.
"I’m not really sure. I’m not interested in the restaurant business. I’m going to go find my brother. I’ll let you get back to your work, sir."
With that, Moira Lynch turned and ran over to Hugh Finch.
"Any other issues?"
"Nope." Moira Lynch shook her head. "That was the last one."
"Good. Once the renovations are done, you and I will go buy some supplies to store here. We can also stash some of the headphones from our rooms here while we’re at it."
The two of them stayed at the shelter until the afternoon. Once the renovations were complete, Hugh Finch paid the workers, and they finally left.
Before they left, Moira Lynch moved the shelter’s entrance to a new location.
Yes, literally.
Hugh Finch was visibly stunned when he saw Moira Lynch literally move the shelter’s entrance.
"Your ability can do that?"
Moving the shelter’s entrance took a greater toll than Moira had expected. Shifting it just a few dozen meters left her feeling completely drained.
Panting and feeling weak, Moira replied to Hugh’s stunned question, "Don’t forget, my ability includes spatial manipulation. I can teleport myself, let alone a simple entrance."
Having been busy all day without a meal, the two of them headed straight for the restaurant upon returning to the hotel.
The dinner spread was even more lavish than breakfast. To their delight, there was even a seafood buffet.
Upon seeing this, Moira Lynch unceremoniously ordered an entire platter.
