Hearing Moira Lynch say that, Hugh Finch offered, "I have some extra nutrient liquid. Do you want some?"

Moira Lynch shook her head. "No thanks. The food I have is enough for me."

Seeing her reaction, Hugh Finch didn’t press the issue. After all, he knew how much Moira Lynch disliked and avoided nutrient liquid.

"By the way, who was that person who just dropped you off?" Hugh Finch asked.

Moira Lynch explained, "After I finished gathering all the supplies, I figured I had nothing better to do, so I found a job at a chain supermarket. It pays two hundred a day."

Hugh Finch: ...

After looking around the rental apartment, Hugh Finch said, "You should move in with me today."

"Okay!"

Moira Lynch agreed without a moment’s hesitation.

Based on what she knew of Hugh Finch, his living situation had to be better than hers. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be asking her to move in with him; he would have offered to move in here instead.

Moira Lynch didn’t have much: her bedding, toiletries, and the food that wouldn’t fit in her Space Button.

After packing all her things into Hugh Finch’s storage space, the two of them left.

Before leaving, Moira Lynch glanced back at the apartment she’d lived in for two days, then sighed. "It’s a shame I can’t get a refund."

"Can’t you try talking to the landlord tomorrow?" Hugh Finch asked.

Moira Lynch shook her head. "Better not. It was spelled out clearly in the rental contract."

"Besides, if I brought it up, not only would I probably not get my money back, but the landlord might just turn around and rent the apartment to someone else. If that’s what’s going to happen, I’d rather it just sit empty."

Hugh Finch: ...

’So to avoid losing both her money and the apartment, she’d rather it just sit empty.’

’Moira’s refusal to be taken advantage of... really hasn’t changed a bit.’

"Or you could go to a rental agency tomorrow and see if you can sublet it. Getting something back is better than nothing."

Moira Lynch shook her head again. "Let’s just forget it. This apartment already has a bad reputation with the agencies. No one would rent it unless they were truly broke. And even then, they wouldn’t stay long because the neighbors are way too noisy."

When they got outside the apartment complex, Moira Lynch realized that Hugh Finch had actually driven.

And from the looks of it, it was a brand-new car.

"Wait, did you rob a car dealership?"

Moira Lynch stared at Hugh Finch, her eyes wide with astonishment.

’If I remember correctly, this guy is just like me. He doesn’t have an ID, making him an undocumented resident.’

Hearing this, Hugh Finch just gave Moira Lynch a light rap on the head with his knuckle. "Get in the car," he said.

Once they were in the car and it started to move, Hugh Finch began to explain. "I was teleported to a hospital. I appeared right outside the room of a critically ill patient."

"The patient’s family had just finished their visit and were about to leave when I suddenly appeared."

Just from Hugh Finch’s description, Moira Lynch could already picture the scene.

’A stranger appearing out of thin air outside a critical care unit... someone not mentally prepared for that might have fainted on the spot.’

Luckily, the patient’s family handled it quite well. That, plus the Prophetic Robe Hugh Finch was wearing and his quick thinking, allowed him to fool the whole family with a small display of his ability.

They even started treating him like some otherworldly expert who had come specifically to cure their relative.

Seeing his chance, Hugh Finch decided to play along.

Fortunately, when he was selecting items before the game started, he had picked a Healing Pack. Apart from some nutrient liquid, it was filled with various kinds of Medicine he had carefully chosen.

He was confident he could cure the patient.

However, he was stunned when he actually examined the patient’s condition.

"So you’re saying that person wasn’t sick at all, but had a failed talent awakening?" Moira Lynch asked in surprise.

Hugh Finch nodded. "The boy was about eighteen or nineteen. The symptoms started with a sudden, persistent high fever. For the first three days, his condition was stable—it was just a fever. But on the third day, his health took a sharp turn for the worse, and his organs began to fail rapidly."

"Back when I was at the base, I used the Intelligent Brain to hack the database. It had files on failed talent awakenings, and the symptoms described were identical to the boy’s. If it weren’t for the machines keeping him alive, he would’ve been dead already."

A condition like that is considered terminal on this planet, but it’s not in the wider galaxy.

After all, even in the wider galaxy, the percentage of people who can awaken their talents naturally, without relying on an Awakening Potion, is very small. Calling it one in ten thousand wouldn’t be an exaggeration.

Take Caelus, for instance. Without Awakening Potions, the number of people who successfully awaken across the entire planet is less than one in a thousand.

"Once I understood the patient’s condition, I took out a vial of fever-reducing Medicine and had him take it."

Of course, that Medicine wasn’t free.

--

Half an hour later, Hugh Finch’s car pulled into the parking lot of the largest hotel in Portmire.

They made their way up to the presidential suite on the hotel’s top floor.

When Moira Lynch found out the room cost twenty thousand a night—and that Hugh Finch had rented it for an entire month—she was speechless.

Not only that, but the presidential suite was massive. It took up the entire top floor and included three bedrooms.

Hugh Finch had taken the master bedroom, so Moira Lynch headed for one of the other bedrooms.

But when she opened the door to one of them, she was stunned by the sight inside.

The room had been completely cleared of its original furniture. In its place were piles and piles of brand-new, packaged headphones.

Just then, Hugh Finch walked over. Before Moira Lynch could even ask, he calmly explained, "I traded for all of these with Medicine."

After all, the Medicine he possessed was a hot commodity even in the wider galaxy, let alone here. It was a crushing, overwhelming advantage. Selling just a few vials was enough for him to live lavishly for the rest of his life.

Of course, Hugh Finch knew the importance of moderation, so he had only sold three vials in total.

Hearing that Hugh Finch had not only gotten all this stuff but had also made a huge profit by selling Medicine, Moira Lynch fell silent. ’Then what was the point of me running around gathering supplies for the past few days?’

’What was the point of working at that supermarket?’

"If I’d known we could do this, I would’ve sold some Medicine too."

After speaking, Moira Lynch decisively activated her wrist-screen. Ignoring the time, she sent a message to the supermarket manager: she was quitting.

The reason she gave? Her brother had come to find her and, worried for her safety, wouldn’t let her work anymore.

She sent the message, then, without waiting to see if he’d agree, she shut down her wrist-screen and turned to the other bedroom.

Thankfully, this bedroom wasn’t occupied by headphones. Moira Lynch dove right onto the bed, bouncing a couple of times.

The plush feeling was infinitely more comfortable than the bed in her rented room.
