"You are making this very ," Karna noted calmly.

A brilliant, blinding golden light erupted from his palm. He summoned a short, glowing golden blade. The blade shined with pure, radiant light. The light pushed the dark shadows away from the corridor.

Karna dashed forward. He moved so fast he created golden after-images. He slipped under the magical blasts. He appeared right in the middle of the four assassins. He swung his golden blade in a rapid, flawless circle.

The wave of bright golden light slashed outward. It hit the assassins. It shattered their magical staffs. The light struck their chests. The blunt force of the magic knocked all four men off their feet. They crashed onto the hard floor. They groaned in pain. They were defeated.

The entire fight lasted less than thirty seconds. Karna did not have a single scratch on his black jacket. His hair was still perfectly styled. He looked relaxed.

Karna lowered his hand. The golden blade dissolved into harmless light. He stood in the quiet hallway. He dusted his hands off.

Dr. Raven stood inside his cell. He gripped the iron bars tightly. He stared at the golden warrior in pure, unfiltered shock. He had just watched a single man effortlessly dismantle an elite squad of foreign assassins.

Karna turned his silver eyes toward the cell. He walked slowly over to the iron bars. He looked at the trembling politician.

"You are safe, Dr. Raven," Karna assured him smoothly. His voice was calm. "My employer wishes for you to stand trial. You will not be silenced today."

Dr. Raven swallowed hard. He looked at the unconscious assassins on the floor. He recognized their dark gear.

"They are from ZulFarah," Dr. Raven whispered. His voice shook with realization. "They are foreign spies. But the King of ZulFarah did not send them."

Karna raised an eyebrow. "Then who sent them?"

Dr. Raven took a slow, deep breath. He decided to tell the truth. He decided to expose his former partners. He knew the shadow god was the only one who could stop them.

"The Anti-Empire faction hired them," Dr. Raven revealed softly. He looked directly at Karna. "Lord Voss and Minister Thorne. They paid these foreign spies to infiltrate the prison. They commissioned them to execute me. They want to permanently seal my mouth so I cannot testify against them at the trial."

Karna listened closely. His sharp mind processed the intelligence. He nodded his head once. The conspiracy was fully exposed. The corrupt politicians were tying up loose ends.

"Thank you for the information," Karna stated politely. He placed his hands back behind his back. "I will report this to my boss. You will remain secure here."

Dr. Raven nodded. He sat back down on his cot. He felt a strange sense of relief. He knew the shadow god was watching over him.

Karna turned around. He walked away from the cell. He stepped into the dark shadows of the corridor. The green magical circle flared briefly. In a single second, the elite spymaster vanished from the prison. The hallway returned to silence. The assassins remained asleep on the floor. The mission was a total success, and Ken’s secret shadow network had officially saved the day again.

The grand ballroom was a complete disaster zone. Broken glass covered the polished marble tiles. Splintered wood from smashed tables lay scattered everywhere. The elegant decorations were ruined. The air smelled like burnt magic and spilled wine.

General Vespera stood in the center of the wreckage. She wore her sleek, dark crimson military uniform. Her pale face twisted into a mask of pure, unfiltered fury. She wiped a smear of tomato sauce from her cheek. She glared at the 13th Unit. Her toxic red eyes burned with immense anger.

She refused to lose to a group of young girls.

"You will pay for this insult!" Vespera shrieked loudly. Her voice sounded like scraping metal. "I will turn every single one of you into dust! I will drain your blood right now!"

Vespera raised her pale hands high into the air. The glowing glass flask in her hand pulsed violently. The dark red mist swirled inside the glass. She channeled a massive amount of toxic blood magic.

The red mist erupted from the flask. It gathered in the air directly above her head. The magic condensed rapidly. It formed a gigantic, jagged spear made of pure, concentrated blood magic. The spear hummed with a terrifying, lethal energy. It looked sharp. It radiated a sickening, crimson light.

Ken Eliot sat on the marble floor. He drooped his shoulders. He wore his navy blue suit pants. His white dress shirt hung completely untucked over his belt. He did not wear a tie. His black hair stuck up in wild, messy spikes. He put his left hand deep into his pocket.

He held a small, colorful bag of gummy worms in his right hand. He pulled out a red gummy worm. He popped it into his mouth. He chewed it slowly.

"This lady has zero chill," Ken analyzed lazily in his mind. He watched the massive spear form in the air. "She just keeps making pointy things. She is spamming her ranged attacks. It is a very annoying boss mechanic."

Ken decided to prepare his usual evasion tactic. He planned to do a clumsy, goofy dodge.

"I will just roll to the left," Ken thought casually. "Rolling is a fantastic strategy. You get invincible frames during a dodge roll. It is basic video game logic. It requires minimal cardio. I will just flop over like a tired fish."

Vespera locked her glowing red eyes onto the 13th Unit. She threw her arm forward.

The lethal blood-spear shot across the ballroom. It moved with blistering, impossible speed. It tore through the air like a crimson meteor. It aimed directly for the center of the group.

Ken prepared to execute his lazy roll. He glanced over his shoulder. He wanted to make sure the floor behind him was clear. He did not want to roll onto a sharp piece of broken glass. He wanted a soft place to land.

He looked toward the back of the room. His sleepy dark eyes opened fully. His heart stopped beating for a single fraction of a second.

A young girl stood near the swinging wooden kitchen doors. She wore a simple black dress. She wore a clean white catering apron. Her dark hair was pulled back. She held a silver serving tray tightly against her chest.

It was Jasmin. His younger sister.

She had taken a catering job at the Royal Gala to pay for her university textbooks. She was trapped in the crossfire. She stood directly in the line of fire. The toxic blood-spear was flying straight toward her face. She could not move. She was frozen in terror. She stared at the incoming magical weapon with wide, panicked eyes.

Ken felt a massive, overwhelming shock.

His goofy smile vanished instantly. The lazy, relaxed expression melted off his face. A cold, fury spiked deep inside his chest.
