All My Summons Become Divine Girls

Chapter 582: Before Holy Paint

Hajin waited until the last arrival cleared the bright return ribbon before moving toward the first record surface, its dim light gathering around a plain iron crown behind glass.

The relic was smaller than he expected.

No jewels gave it importance, its old metal resting on a support beneath the larger image forming above the display.

Didi stopped beside him.

The six Shards near her arms had gone quiet enough for him to hear her breath change when the record found its first complete shape.

A woman came through an Underworld opening with one hand pressed against her side, looking back before she had taken her second step onto mortal ground.

Mortals on this side were backing away from the opening.

The nearest elder had fallen to one knee where the returning pressure caught his coat, his hand scraping along the ground while the retreating edge dragged him toward the place she had left.

The woman turned back.

She caught his forearm with her free hand and pulled him far enough forward for the next person to reach him, putting her own body between the elder and the closing demand.

The pressure struck her back.

Hajin saw her jaw tighten around a cry before she brought the last frightened man clear, her injured hand lifting from her side to hold him until his feet were on the ground beside hers.

Didi’s fingers closed around Hajin’s right hand.

"Look at her hand."

Blood had reached the woman’s knuckles during that last pull, the image showing it clearly as she turned toward the people now standing beyond the Underworld opening.

The return demanded something from her.

She faced it long enough to refuse, her mouth forming a word the record carried into the hall with none of the distortion Hajin had heard from the sliver beneath the cradle.

"No."

The opening closed behind the people she had brought out.

For a moment the woman stood with her back to it and both hands lowered, letting the frightened elders find each other before she reached for the unadorned crown she had carried through.

Didi watched that pause more closely than the object.

Hajin felt her grip tighten when the woman’s fingers trembled against the iron, the historical figure taking one steadying breath before holding it toward the nearest elder.

"I leave the King without bringing his ownership into this land, and I will protect those who stand here without calling them mine."

Sava began copying the oath as it sounded, her archival ink following every word while the woman in the record kept the crown at the elder’s own hand height.

He did not take it immediately.

His gaze moved toward the other people standing beside him, the offered iron remaining between them while he asked a question whose answer belonged to that gathering.

Another elder stepped close enough to touch the crown’s edge.

The woman let the weight pass into their hands together, her own fingers opening only when they had both chosen to take it.

Didi exhaled beside Hajin.

"She waited for them."

He looked from the crown to the elder still holding his torn coat closed against his chest.

"After getting them out."

The older man’s hand left the tear long enough to touch the iron with the others, the small movement putting him back into the decision after the woman had kept him alive to make it.

Hajin turned the public record view toward the Stream once Sava had the oath secured, leaving the full exchange visible before the system’s classification appeared beside it.

[ Human Crown: Founded through Witnessed Protection ]

The words stayed beneath the image while the elders passed the iron from hand to hand, each grip taking its part of the weight without raising it over the people around them.

Didi’s Brand answered beneath the frost beside her arm.

Its resonance warmed along the choice being shown, a fine gold movement finding the old oath while the witnesses in the hall continued standing in their own separate places.

She looked down at her hand in Hajin’s.

"It knows this."

Hajin adjusted his grip around her fingers while Sava moved her page closer to the display, Didi’s gaze staying on the woman’s bloodied hands.

Didi’s frost touched the display glass in a light fog.

She noticed it only when the woman’s hand began blurring beneath the pale edge, her breath catching before she drew that cold back enough to see the record clearly again.

"I want to see her."

Hajin stayed beside her while the fog thinned.

Cessy stood a short distance from the display with Lucan near the marked return, her gaze fixed on the place where the woman had turned back toward the Underworld opening.

The old record had made her very still.

Hajin could see the fresh recoil dressing at her wrist, the same small care in the way she kept it off the cold edge of the display frame.

Sava finished the oath’s last word before the next layer of the archive began passing across the scene, her hand stopping above the page as the original iron acquired a wash of pale color.

The woman’s bloody knuckles disappeared first.

New painted light covered the elder’s torn coat, the ugly evidence of the rescue fading beneath a cleaner scene in which nobody looked as though they had needed to be pulled out by hand.

The crown brightened.

Hajin watched its plain iron vanish beneath the later surface, the image replacing the waiting hands with a raised object that seemed to have arrived already entitled to the space above them.

The words beneath it changed from a witnessed promise into an inherited right.

Sava put one finger on the oath she had just copied.

"That is not what she said."

Ferra moved closer to inspect the physical crown below the record, following the actual layers left on its metal while the projected revision continued above it.

A loose flake of rust had fallen from the relic onto the support beneath the glass, its unpainted edge visible where the display’s old access seam remained open.

She lifted that already detached piece with care, folding it into a scrap before putting it in her pocket while Hajin kept his eyes on the difference between the two versions.

The archive let the later paint be examined as a layer.

When that layer drew back, the elder’s torn coat returned beneath it, the woman’s tired hand once again holding a plain crown low enough for someone to refuse taking it.

Didi leaned closer without letting go of Hajin.

The next revision replaced the pause before the elders accepted it, shortening their shared decision until the crown looked as if it had simply been delivered to the people it would rule.

Sava marked that change beside the full oath.

Another layer made the protector’s refusal sound like the beginning of a command, removing the part where she denied bringing the King’s ownership into the land behind her.

Hajin felt Didi’s fingers tighten again.

"They took out the part that made it hers to give."

Her voice had gone quiet.

He looked at the woman beneath the withdrawn paint, finding the blood on her hand again before he answered.

"They took out the people who could say no to receiving it."

Didi watched the crown pass between the elders with the full pause restored, her expression changing as one of them turned it over to see its plain inside before offering it to the next hand.

The record showed people handling an object.

The later paint had taught people to stand beneath it.

[ ashley: keep the original oath beside the edited one ]

[ oldschoollurker: they painted over her bloody hand too ]

Hajin left both versions in the shared view while Sava placed the original words above each later alteration, her permanent ink preserving the sequence the display had exposed.

The witnesses moved closer one at a time to see the unadorned crown beneath the glass, their attention going from the small physical relic to the much larger claims painted over its history.

Didi stayed with the woman’s face.

"Did anyone let her sit down?"

Hajin looked at her.

She kept watching the record’s tired figure after the crown had left its hands, the question making the whole hall feel less like an argument he could finish with the right classification.

The woman in the record turned toward an elder who had brought a place for her near the gathered people, lowering herself carefully while the iron continued passing among their hands.

The man with the torn coat offered her a strip from its loose edge, waiting while she wrapped it around the hand that had pulled him clear.

His coat stayed torn as he went back to the others.

Didi’s shoulders eased.

"Good."

Cessy came close enough to see that last movement from beside them, her eyes following the empty place around the seated woman’s wrist rather than the crown the elders held.

Hajin noticed the solemn look she gave Didi before returning her attention to the hall, the fugitive keeping the short distance between them while the original oath remained visible.

Didi’s hand stayed linked with his as the first record settled into its preserved ending, the Brand’s recognition quiet beneath the frost along her forearm.

Farther inside the display, another part of the survivor’s account began gathering beneath the returned image of the Underworld opening, its next testimony waiting behind the woman’s refused claim.
