All My Summons Become Divine Girls
Chapter 581: Three Separate Notes
Hajin passed the ordinary barrier at the cradle stair after Ferra checked its support, the last pale light of dawn reaching the chamber beneath the empty custodian seat.
Three bronze orbit marks waited around a larger empty circle in the wall.
He stopped before the nearest one.
The third mark brightened toward his hand, its edge lifting half a handspan out of the old arrangement as if the chamber had been waiting for somebody to claim the central place.
His fingers stayed clear.
’We have had enough trouble with seats.’
Rumi came down behind him with a bright linen ribbon folded over one wrist, Nari taking the opposite side while Ferra examined the physical frame around the three marks.
The twins did not reach together.
Rumi put the ribbon on the ordinary threshold first, pressing her palm against the approach where she meant to keep their return before looking at the route the chamber was offering her.
"This comes back toward the shelters."
Nari studied its exposed side from across the bronze marks, her fingers hovering over the place where a hostile path could share that opening once the inner door admitted them.
"Then it needs closing."
Rumi lifted her eyes.
"With us still below?"
"If it is carrying something up behind us."
The first bronze note sounded between them, too thin to become a chime while their different priorities pulled at the arrangement beneath the empty circle.
Hajin watched the chamber try to bring that note toward its center, the lifted third mark edging closer to the place his right hand would rest if he let it.
Ferra tapped the frame with her own tool.
"Keep your hands where you mean them."
Nari lowered hers away from the common center, looking at the mark waiting on her own side before she answered her sister.
"I am not leaving enemy roads open because somebody calls them convenient."
"I am not letting the archive use our return to reach people upstairs."
Rumi pointed to the prepared approach under her ribbon, the ordinary ground she had touched before anything in the inner chamber had given her a route to claim.
"That is the way I want kept."
Nari looked from the ribbon to the exposed paths the bronze arrangement was showing around it, her attention following each actual opening instead of settling over the whole chamber.
"Those are the ones I want sealed."
She put her manual markers beside the visible hostile approaches, leaving their placement clear enough for Rumi to see which return she was keeping outside their reach.
The second note answered distinctly from the first.
The door stayed closed.
Hajin moved nearer to the third mark without giving it the hand it had been inviting, his right wrist passing beneath the empty central ring while his own six remained closed.
He could feel the old expectation in the way its light followed him.
The foundation wanted a claim large enough to gather the people behind him into one authority, its waiting circle offering the cleanest possible answer to a room full of disagreements.
Juna stood at the stair with her arms loose by her sides, watching the rising mark instead of coming forward to fill its empty space for him.
Didi waited with the others beyond her.
Nobody moved when the bronze reached toward his wrist.
"I choose who I am bringing down," he began, then stopped at the way the mark brightened over the word bringing.
Rumi looked at him across her ribbon.
"You asked us."
He nodded once.
"You chose to come."
The third mark waited with its edge still raised.
Hajin put his right palm on its own outer boundary, keeping it away from the common circle while he gave the decision he meant to leave there.
"I refuse command over the people entering."
The lifted bronze settled back into its separate place.
The third chime sounded without swallowing either of the other two, their three notes staying distinct while the empty central ring remained unfilled above them.
Rumi’s mark gave her a single return toward the ground she had prepared, its line stopping short of the shelters she had refused to expose.
Nari’s answered around the enemy paths she could actually see, her fingers finding where each exposed seam would have to be handled if it opened farther.
Hajin’s accepted the limit beneath his palm.
The door opened between those separate choices.
Air moved out of the record hall beyond it with a cold smell of old stone, the first visible floor staying empty while Ferra checked the frame for a shift under the new load.
[ Independent Decisions: 3 ]
[ Prepared Return: One Marked Exit ]
Hajin kept his hand at the third boundary until Ferra finished her first inspection, looking back at the twins while the distinct chimes faded around the open door.
"Still want to close my road?" Rumi asked her sister.
"Only the part that tries to eat us."
"That is almost affectionate."
Nari’s mouth moved before she looked away, the small expression making Rumi grin as she gathered the ribbon from the threshold.
Hajin felt his own shoulders ease a little.
The door had been much less pleasant while they were arguing with its face.
"I prefer being annoying in person," Rumi told him, putting the bright linen against the prepared outer point before she approached the new opening.
"You have had practice."
"You have been excellent motivation."
Ferra gave a short sound that could have been agreement from beside the frame, her chalk moving over the flat face of her thigh brace while she recorded each of the three choices separately.
Rumi waited for the inner floor to stay clear before stepping through alone, touching its near return point with her palm as Hajin watched from the outside.
She set the ribbon’s other end against that actual landing.
The single prepared return joined where she had touched, its visible line running back to the threshold without branching toward any other place in the hall.
Rumi came back through the ordinary opening after checking it, leaving the bright linen to show the one exit the others would have to use if the record chamber turned hostile.
Nari pressed her nearest manual marker against the exposed boundary beside it, keeping the enemy-side seam separate from the return her sister had just finished preparing.
"This stays visible."
Rumi nodded at the ribbon.
"That is why I chose an ugly bright one."
Hajin looked down at the cheerful strip against the old stone, finding it easier to breathe with an ordinary piece of cloth showing where they would come back.
Ferra tested the structural brace again before allowing the first waiting person toward the threshold, her tool resting against the same place until its answer stopped changing.
Ash peered around the Watcher’s side at the shimmering boundary.
He leaned far enough to see the first clear floor, then stepped back into the safe formation when the cold air touched his face.
The Watcher rested a hand near his shoulder without pushing him toward the door.
Hajin watched that small retreat before looking again at his own accepted mark, its separate bronze boundary still lying quiet beneath the empty ring in the wall.
He took the baker’s folded terms from the outer pocket where he had kept them, checking their place beside the route notation before tucking both safely away again.
The three different choices had brought them this far.
The people beyond the stair still needed the words they had been promised.
Juna reached the threshold when Ferra called it steady, stopping beside the ribbon while Rumi looked through the clear return one more time.
Nari kept her hand on the nearest exposed seam, her gaze moving between the opening and the place her sister would wait until the first traveler was through.
Hajin touched her shoulder briefly before taking his own place at the marked approach, the encouragement bringing a guarded nod from her without pulling her hand off its work.
"One at a time," Ferra said.
He waited until Rumi stepped clear of the entry line, then crossed with his hands free and his own decision still separate from the people choosing to follow him.
The first hall opened around him in a long dim curve, the record surfaces catching a little of the dawn light that still reached through the prepared door behind his shoulder.
He stopped at the clear landing rather than walking deeper before the next person arrived.
Juna crossed after Rumi gave the entry signal.
Didi followed only when Juna had left the threshold clear, the frost beside her forearm catching the colder light while Ferra kept checking each shift in the door’s ordinary support.
Cessy waited behind the outer ribbon while the witness ahead of her crossed, her burned wrist held close as she studied the narrow space he had just left.
Rumi gave her the next signal.
She stepped through with her gaze on the actual landing, the cold air lifting the edge of her sleeve before she moved far enough inside for Lucan to follow.
He checked the two separate pockets in his coat before taking his turn, the report corner and the wrapped mark-rind still traveling with the person who had kept them.
Hajin caught his eye from beside the clear arrival space.
Lucan gave a small nod and moved toward his sister.
When Ash’s turn came, the boy looked back at his mother once before crossing to the hand Hajin held inside the hall.
"The door stays there?"
Hajin pointed with his free fingers toward Rumi’s bright ribbon.
"There."
Ash followed the line with his eyes until his mother crossed behind him, her burned palms kept clear of the frame while Juna made room beside the child.
The Watcher passed beneath the giant-built cradle hall’s high lintel, stopping close enough for Ash to lean against her again as his little link tapped Hajin’s strap before he let go.
Hajin stayed beside that clear landing for the next arrival, finding the ordinary work of giving somebody room much easier than the claim the bronze mark had wanted from him.
One arrival at a time filled the near side of the record hall, the bright ribbon remaining visible behind them while Nari watched the exposed boundaries until her own turn came.
Hajin looked back at the three separate bronze marks through that single exit, their unblended notes still resting in his memory as the first Crown record began gathering light farther inside.
