All My Summons Become Divine Girls
Chapter 529: One Spear, One Owner
Between emergencies, the engine granted the expedition one merciful afternoon, plus Ferra spent it on the question nobody had thought to ask until the clone needed a tool.
"If these bodies are going to work the fronts, they will need to hold things."
Ferra stood in the silo yard beside a spear rack, wearing the expression of a woman about to conduct law.
"Real things, forged things, heavy things. So today we find out what handing one over actually means."
The spear was her own forge’s ordinary work, one ash shaft, one plain iron head, no enchantment, no history.
It had no value beyond honest competence, plus a very good balance point for tired hands.
She had forged it as a training blank three years ago, plus it had spent those years as the least important object in her whole inventory.
Right up until this afternoon, when it became case law.
"This is the most boring spear in the country," she announced to the yard, the feed, plus the assembled witnesses. "That is why it is perfect."
The count was given, one Ring, one clone, one spear test, plus Juna dropped her hand like a rail crossing gate.
The clone formed at the center marker, looked at the rack, plus waited with its hands loose in the way that always made new watchers uneasy.
The waiting posture had been the subject of three separate viewer polls by now, all of them wrong.
What it meant was simply that a body with no orders has no preference about standing.
Ferra lifted the spear from the rack herself, walked it over, plus held it out horizontally across both palms, in the formal posture of a smith delivering work.
"Take this spear as a loan against your mission," she said, completing the old formality with a straight face plus shining eyes. "Your mission is to carry it, thrust it at the straw targets, and return it undamaged at the bell."
"Understood," the clone said, and took the spear, plus the taking was the moment the afternoon became interesting.
The spear acquired weight in its new hands in the most literal sense, meaning it stopped being forge inventory plus became carried equipment, tracked by absolutely no system panel anywhere.
[ NewViewer_02: ] the system gave it no item panel. the spear is just... held. that is somehow the weirdest thing I have seen all week
The clone drilled the straw targets with the plain spear, competently, without flair, in exactly the original’s mid-campaign style. The drill was simple thrust, recover, advance, then another thrust.
Then came the test under the test, the one Ferra had built the whole afternoon around.
"Original," she called across the yard. "Retrieve it."
Hajin stood at the far marker plus reached for it like a man reaching for his own belt knife.
He found the spear exactly where the world said it was, in the clone’s hands, eleven paces out of reach.
The formal reach had nothing at all to reach with. He tried the inventory next, open palm, the established gesture, plus the inventory declined the transaction with total indifference.
[ Inventory Retrieval: Item Not In Possession ]
[ Item Duplication: Not Possible ]
[ Duplicate Item Ledger: None Exists ]
"You cannot pull it back," Ferra said, her charcoal flying across the record.
"You cannot copy it either. While the clone holds it, the spear exists in exactly one place, which is the clone’s hands, plus the clone exists in exactly one place, which is this yard."
"So singular ownership is physical," Hajin said, watching his own copy drill with his own smith’s spear. "The hand that holds the thing owns the thing, plus no ledger argues."
"Which means," Ferra said, arriving at the legal summit of her afternoon, "that what you hand a body, that body has, until it hands it back or dissolves holding it."
The dissolution question got its own test, because this family leaves no drawer unopened.
At the bell, the clone returned the spear to the rack formally, bowed to Ferra, plus dissolved at the marker. The spear stayed on the rack, exactly where it had been set, plus the original’s next reach found it instantly.
[ Item Returned Prior To Dissolution ]
[ Original Possession: Restored ]
"And if it dissolves holding something?" Juna asked, from the terms bench, because someone had to.
The second test of the run answered that question directly. The clone took the spear, stood at the marker, plus dissolved mid-grip on the order, with the spear in its hands plus no rack nearby.
Then the whole spear dropped where the body had stood. Two pounds of ash plus iron hit the yard dirt at the exact spot the body had stood.
It landed in the same moment the body stopped existing, then lay there being perfectly ordinary about it all.
"Equipment does not return with the body," Aria confirmed for the record.
"Dissolution releases the held item at the dissolution point. Falling, it turns out, is entirely the item’s own affair."
[ CringeSlayer91: ] the clone dissolved and the spear just dropped like a divorced husband’s ring, bro
[ LurkerNoMore: ] rules confirmed: real items transfer physically, cannot be recalled or duplicated, and drop on dissolution. this skill respects property law more than most kingdoms
Then Ferra brought out the second rack, and the yard went quiet in a different key.
The second rack held one item, under cloth, plus everyone in the expedition knew its outline before the cloth came off. The Legendary Chain hung from the rack in coils, dark-gold plus patient, the single most documented object in the country.
"The real question," Ferra said, unhooking nothing, "is the unique artifacts."
She did not lift the Chain from its rack at all. She stood beside it with her hand hovering, plus asked the question instead.
"Original, could you assign this to a body?"
The answer arrived in his pathways before it arrived in his voice, cold plus certain, the system declining to even open negotiations.
[ Unique Artifact Assignment To Clone: Denied ]
[ Bound Artifacts Remain With The Anchor Soul ]
"The Chain says no," Hajin translated. "The Grasp, the Stolen Moment, anything soul-bound stays with the original, and no body I build will ever wear them."
"Which is the correct answer, plus I would have fought the system about it if it had answered otherwise."
Ferra covered the Legendary Chain over again, with deeply visible relief.
"A copied legendary in borrowed hands is the opening line of every catastrophe ballad I have ever been bored by."
"So the equipment doctrine stands as tested," she said, writing the final entry into the technique’s biography.
"Ordinary items, handed physically, held physically, returned physically, dropped if the holder dissolves or is forcibly destroyed. Unique artifacts never leave the anchor, no exceptions, and the system agrees with the smiths for once."
The family absorbed the doctrine over the late lunch that Tessa’s bread line had sent up to the yard.
The doctrine turned out to matter by nightfall, because doctrines always arrive exactly one lesson before the examination.
After dark, the wardens’ slates lit with the next reading.
The reading said the north rift was reopening wider than before, plus the river heart’s walk was degrading again.
The engine’s patience, like all true mercies, had been a loan on a very short term.
Hajin looked at the spear rack on his way to the war table, at the ordinary weapon that had taught the afternoon its law.
"Bodies can be equipped, and the doctrine says they can be armed," he said to Ferra at the door.
"Make a dozen of those by morning."
"Already designing them," Ferra said, plus the forge light ran late over the silo that night.
Twenty-seven skies stood over the city, one spear law was established, plus nobody yet knew what the next deployment would cost.
