Chapter 497: Chapter 249: The Magical Pet Is Monstrous Too?

’It’s begun.’

Pei Ze’s gaze narrowed.

Without a sound, the black bracelet on his right wrist shattered. It dissolved into a black mist that drifted to his shoulder before coalescing into the form of Wuyu.

"CAW."

Wuyu’s cold eyes stared straight ahead.

In the distance, the fog had settled over the wasteland.

The dense fog churned and swirled, swiftly forming one winged serpent after another. Hissing and flicking their forked tongues, they bared their fangs and lunged at the surrounding Wizards.

The battle erupted in an instant!

"HISS!"

In the blink of an eye, Pei Ze found himself surrounded by more than a dozen giant serpents.

The serpents opened their maws in unison, snapping viciously at him.

Pei Ze’s expression remained calm and untroubled. He stood perfectly still as mist suddenly billowed from Wuyu on his shoulder. From within the mist, Fog Crows shot out like sharp arrows, charging head-on to meet the giant serpents.

These Nightmare Serpents, projections formed from the mist, were only at the fourth level of power.

Pei Ze and Wuyu didn’t even need to act. The Fog Crows alone could handle them with ease.

The Fog Crows’ combat power was approaching the fifth level, making them more than capable of handling four or five Nightmare Serpents at once.

Leaving the battle to Wuyu, Pei Ze turned his gaze to his surroundings to observe the other Wizards.

A total of two hundred fifty-six Wizard Cities were participating in the qualification battle for the Holy Land. With each city sending anywhere from five or six to fourteen or fifteen people, there were likely over two thousand Sixth-level Wizards currently inside the Holy Land Illusion Realm.

—This was, without a doubt, an immense and formidable power in the Multiverse!

It was one of the very foundations that allowed the Star Realm Alliance to traverse the Multiverse.

The only comparable forces were the High-Tier Evil Demon legions of the Abyss and Hell, or the Demigod legions of the Pantheon.

There were only thirty to forty thousand Nightmare Serpents formed from the mist projections. On average, each Sixth-level Wizard only had to face a dozen or so fourth-level Nightmare Serpents, making the task remarkably easy.

Looking out across the wasteland, lights of every color flashed incessantly.

The Wizards, as if by tacit agreement, refrained from using their Soul Power. Instead, they controlled their artifacts or summoned Otherworldly Creatures to slay the Nightmare Serpents.

At the level of a Sixth-level Wizard, artifacts were of little use. However, they were adequate for dealing with low-tier enemies and, at the very least, conserved their strength.

The same principle applied to summoning Otherworldly Creatures.

But someone like Pei Ze, summoning a magical pet to face his foes, was unheard of.

After all, magical pets were transformed from ordinary creatures, which meant their potential was inherently limited. They could not be nurtured to higher levels.

Magical pets that reached the third level were few and far between; those that reached the fourth were exceedingly rare.

As for the fifth and sixth levels... no Wizard had ever managed to nurture a magical pet to such a state.

For this reason, Pei Ze’s situation immediately drew the attention of many.

"Is that... a magical pet?"

A hint of surprise touched Ding Ji’s face.

Normally, with the keen eye of a Sixth-level Wizard, it would be impossible not to recognize a mere magical pet.

It was just that the power Wuyu displayed was so immense that he couldn’t be sure at first.

"It’s a magical pet, all right." Astonishment flashed in Yin Jin’s eyes. "If its derivations have combat power approaching the fifth level, doesn’t that mean the creature itself must have at least reached Level 5 Peak?"

Yin Jin and Ding Ji exchanged a look, their eyes filled with profound surprise.

Neither of them had expected that not only was Pei Ze’s own aptitude and strength extraordinary, but even his magical pet was so brilliant and powerful.

This young man was becoming more and more unfathomable.

Pei Ze paid no mind to the stares of others. His attention was focused on the empty space before him.

A faint mist gathered in the air, forming lines of text that displayed the scores and rankings of the various Wizard Cities, which changed from moment to moment. 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂

After observing for a moment, Pei Ze finally confirmed his suspicion.

’So, killing one Nightmare Serpent is worth one point.’

Pei Ze glanced around. Nightmare Serpents fell one after another at the hands of the Wizards, but in the next instant, new ones would emerge from the mist to join the battle, seemingly without end.

Even so, the Wizards were still handling the threat with ease.

The scores for all the Wizard Cities were rising steadily.

But everyone knew this was just the appetizer. The real test was yet to come.

Just then, the sky above finally began to change.

Countless crimson orbs of light abruptly appeared.

A closer look revealed them to be the eyes of the Mother of Nightmare Serpents.

Over a hundred serpent heads opened their blood-red eyes in unison, looking down upon the Wizards below with cold indifference. The numerous heads coiled in a serpentine motion. Then, the centermost head slowly extended, its massive form rising high before turning to mist and forming a cloud in the sky.

The next moment, myriads of arrows made of pure air shot out from the clouds, aimed directly at the Wizards below.

The atmosphere on the wasteland instantly tensed.

Faced with an attack from the legendary Mother of Nightmare Serpents—even if it was just a projection—not a single Wizard dared to be careless.

In that instant, all the Wizards shed their casual attitudes and unhesitatingly unleashed their full power to defend themselves.

Pei Ze was no exception. Lightning surged around him, layer upon layer of it erupting to form a protective shield overhead.

The Mother of Nightmare Serpents’ attack covered an enormous area, stretching for thousands of miles in every direction and enveloping the entire wasteland.

Myriads of white, gaseous arrows descended from the sky simultaneously. The scene was as magnificent as it was terrifying.

However, only those caught within it could feel the chilling killing intent that rushed down upon them.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The white, gaseous arrows slammed into the multi-colored defenses, creating thunderous booms like cannon fire.

The lightning shield above Pei Ze was instantly bombarded by hundreds of barrel-thick arrows. The once-brilliant lightning visibly dimmed, flickering as if about to collapse.
