Chapter 488: Chapter 244: Holy Land Qualification Battle (2)

In that case, a place that embodied the truth of the corresponding rules would be immensely beneficial for a Sixth-level Wizard’s comprehension of them.

As if guessing Pei Ze’s thoughts, Annie smiled faintly and said, "The Holy Land is so named precisely because for Sixth-level Wizards, it is a truly sacred place."

"Relying on the Holy Land, the Star Realm Alliance has cultivated dozens of Rule Wizards, allowing it to become one of the top powers in the Multiverse."

"However, the Holy Land only opens once every hundred years, and the number of entrants is limited each time. To allocate these spots, the Star Realm Alliance established the Holy Land Qualification Battle, a competition to determine who earns the right to enter."

Upon hearing this, Pei Ze came to a sudden realization, a glint flashing in his eyes.

’If that’s the case, then I really have to participate in this Holy Land Qualification Battle.’

’When it comes to analytical power, there’s probably nothing in the entire Multiverse more formidable than the Eye of Omniscience.’

’If I can get into the Holy Land, I’ll be able to use the Eye of Omniscience to analyze the rules up close and rapidly increase my strength.’

’That way, I can break through and become a Rule Wizard even faster!’

At this thought, Pei Ze’s heart burned with fervent excitement.

Seeing the tempted look on Pei Ze’s face, Annie smiled slightly, unsurprised.

’Almost no Sixth-level Wizard could resist the allure of the Holy Land.’

’Back then, hadn’t she joined the Travelers’ Association and become a core member for the very same reason—to earn the right to participate in the Holy Land battle?’

"Thank you for the information," Pei Ze said, snapping out of his thoughts.

Annie waved her hand. "It’s nothing. Once you become a Sixth-level Wizard, someone would have told you all this anyway."

Pei Ze nodded, glanced at Gu Lin, and asked, "What are your plans? Are you going to stay in the Abyss?"

"Our research on the God of Decay and Death isn’t finished, so the experiment must continue," Annie said calmly. "Besides, Gu Lin can use the blood war here to increase his strength."

Pei Ze couldn’t help but marvel at this.

’Annie really takes good care of Gu Lin.’

’Gu Lin must have some incredible luck to be so highly valued by a Rule Wizard.’

’A good first impression?’

’Or is she grooming him as a successor?’

’Don’t tell me she’s planning to give Gu Lin the Embrace and turn him into a vampire?’

Pei Ze’s mind raced with possibilities.

’That wouldn’t be so bad, if it were true.’

’High-level vampires aren’t like common ones; they don’t fear sunlight or silver. Aside from an aversion to positive energy, they have few weaknesses and possess advantages like long life and powerful regeneration. They could truly be considered superior beings.’

...

「Chenxi City.」

「Tower of Dawn.」

This was the only large, unowned Wizard Tower in Chenxi City.

After many years of enhancements and refinements, the Tower of Dawn was said to be the most powerful Wizard Tower short of a Floating City.

It was also the meeting place for the Dawn Council.

Inside the spacious hall, eight Arrays were arranged in a circle.

As they began to glow, projections materialized in unison above the Arrays.

In the blink of an eye, eight figures were gathered in the hall.

The wizard at the head of the group, who looked to be in his thirties but had stark white hair and brows, scanned the circle and began to speak in a slow, deep voice.

"Everyone, Lord Mu Yuan has personally gone to the Abyss Plane to apprehend Pan Mo."

The attendees exchanged glances. A wizard on the right nodded slightly and said, "With Lord Mu Yuan on the case, capturing Pan Mo is only a matter of time."

"Not necessarily," Mo Weng said, shaking his head. "Pan Mo was at the Sixth Level for over three thousand years and was already just a step away from breaking through. Now that he has obtained the Cyan Flame from the God of Decay and Death, it’s likely only a matter of time before he ascends to a Rule Wizard."

At these words, the atmosphere in the hall grew tense.

After a long moment, the white-haired wizard turned to Ji Zhang.

"Ji Zhang, have you found out how Pan Mo obtained the Cyan Flame yet?"

Ji Zhang shook his head. "I can’t. Someone is interfering. The prophecy spells are completely ineffective."

"Is it Pan Mo? I don’t recall him being skilled in the Prophetic Domain."

"No, it’s someone else." Ji Zhang’s expression was grave. "I asked Lord Wei Shi for his help, but even he couldn’t find anything."

As his words fell, all the Wizards present tensed, their eyes filled with shock and suspicion.

Wei Shi was one of the few Rule Wizards in Chenxi City and possessed considerable skill in the Prophetic Domain. If even he couldn’t uncover any information, there could be only one reason: an expert of the same caliber was interfering from the shadows.

It was either another Rule Wizard on par with Wei Shi, or a Divine Spirit.

The situation had suddenly become far more convoluted.

The white-haired wizard shook his head, tabling the issue for now. He then moved on to another matter.

"The Holy Land Qualification Battle begins in three years."

At the mention of this, all the Councillors present grew serious.

The Holy Land Qualification Battle was arguably the matter most relevant to their interests.

Securing a spot to enter the Holy Land would increase one’s chances of becoming a Rule Wizard by at least twenty to thirty percent.

"That leaves just the eight of us as participants this year," one Wizard said, looking around the circle with a hint of melancholy.

In the last Holy Land Qualification Battle, Chenxi City had ten Sixth-level Wizards participating.

But since then, one Sixth-level Wizard had fallen in the Turin Plane war, and then Pan Mo defected. Now, Chenxi City was left with only the eight Sixth-level Wizards present here.

"It doesn’t matter. The format of the Holy Land Qualification Battle has nothing to do with the number of participants."

"I wouldn’t say that. There’s strength in numbers. If we run into each other during the competition, we can watch each other’s backs."

"But we’re also competitors."

"We can defeat the opponents from the other Wizard Cities first. It won’t be too late to compete amongst ourselves after that."

Amid the discussion, the white-haired wizard noticed Ji Zhang’s pensive expression and suddenly asked, "Ji Zhang, what are you thinking?"

Ji Zhang snapped out of his reverie. Seeing all eyes on him, he paused for a moment before saying slowly, "I believe there’s one other person who might participate in the Holy Land Qualification Battle."

At his words, the other Councillors looked surprised.

"Who?"

"Did someone in the city advance to a Sixth-level Wizard?"

"I haven’t heard anything about that."

Only Mo Weng, who seemed to have realized something, had a strange look on his face.

And just as he expected, Ji Zhang followed up coolly, "Pei Ze."

The hall instantly fell silent. The Councillors stared at one another.

"Pei Ze? Mo Weng’s disciple?"

"I recall he just advanced to Level 5 Wizard not long ago, didn’t he?"

"You must be joking, Ji Zhang. Level 5 Wizards aren’t qualified to participate in the Holy Land battle."

The white-haired wizard raised a hand, signaling for silence. He then looked at Ji Zhang and said in a low voice, "Ji Zhang, state your reasons."

"I ran into Pei Ze in the Abyss while I was hunting for Pan Mo."

Ji Zhang recounted the entire sequence of events.

After he finished, all seven Wizards, including the white-haired one, were utterly astonished.

Even Mo Weng looked somewhat dazed.

A Level 5 Wizard had actually mastered the Power of Rules—even if only to a limited extent—that was still an incredible feat.

After all, not even every one of them—Councillors of the Dawn Council—had managed to master the Power of Rules.

Only the few Councillors with the deepest comprehension of the rules could wield the Power of Rules, and even then, only to a limited degree.

Without exception, those few had all been Sixth-level Wizards for millennia.

And yet Pei Ze, a Level 5 Wizard who had advanced not long ago, had already accomplished what took them thousands of years to do.

If anyone other than Ji Zhang had been the one to say it, they would never have believed it.

In unison, all the Councillors turned their gazes toward Mo Weng.

Mo Weng cleared his throat. "Don’t look at me. I didn’t know anything about this either."

The white-haired wizard shook his head, not dwelling on the matter. "Even if Pei Ze has combat power comparable to the Sixth Level, he is still a Level 5 Wizard. According to the rules, he cannot participate in the Holy Land Qualification Battle... unless he can break through and advance to the Sixth Level within three years."

Several Councillors shook their heads at his words.

They had all heard of Pei Ze’s reputation as a genius, but no matter how talented someone was, it was impossible to achieve another breakthrough less than ten years after reaching Level 5.

That wouldn’t be a genius; that would be a monster.

Among them, only Mo Weng had a strange expression.

’After all, I know that Pei Ze went to participate in the blood war.’

’I was originally wondering how he was going to eliminate the spiritual contamination, but now that I know he has mastered the Power of Rules, I understand what he’s relying on.’

’Pei Ze’s rate of improvement was already astounding. Now, with the addition of the blood war... is it really impossible for him to advance to the Sixth Level before the Holy Land Qualification Battle?’
