Chapter 413: Chapter 212: She’s Very Pretty, and Her Figure Is Great Too
Tining asked in confusion, "Where are you going?"
"The Thunder Elemental Half-Plane. I’m going to hunt a Thunder Elemental Giant Spirit."
Tining’s eyes lit up, and she quickly said, "Then I’ll go too. I can hunt with you."
Pei Ze had helped her clan escape the Ancient Forest Plane and given them a place to stay. Tining had been constantly thinking about how to repay him, and this was undoubtedly a good opportunity.
"You?"
Pei Ze was immediately tempted.
’To be honest, hunting a Thunder Elemental Giant Spirit isn’t very dangerous for me, but it is a bit of a hassle. After all, like me, the Thunder Elemental Giant Spirit draws its power mainly from Thunder Elemental Energy. Its attacks won’t be very effective against me, but the reverse is also true. To kill one, I’d either have to slowly chip away at its health or burn a Rune of Fissure for a decisive blow. I’ve already prepared a large amount of materials to inscribe those runes for the hunt. But if Tining can help, I can undoubtedly save that expense. No matter how weak an Ancient Tree Deer Spirit’s attack power is, it’ll still be more damaging to the Thunder Elemental Giant Spirit than my own attacks.’
At this thought, Pei Ze no longer hesitated and nodded with a smile.
"Alright, let’s go together."
Seeing Pei Ze agree, Tining broke into a joyful smile, clearly ecstatic that she could be of help to him.
"Yee yee."
Nearby, Xiaoyi immediately expressed its dissatisfaction.
The little one had initially been a bit resistant to the new members, afraid they would divert Pei Ze’s attention. But now, it had completely warmed up to Tining and the other Ancient Tree Deer Spirits.
Now, seeing that Tining was about to leave with Pei Ze, it was a little sad to see her go.
"It’s okay, we’ll be back soon. I’ll take you for a walk then," Tining said comfortingly, patting Xiaoyi’s head.
...
After leaving the manor, Yin Xue headed straight home.
Just as she entered, she saw several Wizards from her clan walking toward her with hurried steps.
Seeing Yin Xue, they all stopped, bowed, and greeted her.
"Young Miss."
Yin Xue gave a calm nod and asked casually, "What’s happened? Why is everyone in such a hurry?"
The Wizards glanced at each other, and one of them answered in a low voice, "Young Miss, a Wizard has defected."
Yin Xue froze for a moment, a look of astonishment flashing in her eyes.
"What happened?"
"We’re not too clear on the specifics. We were just ordered by the Patriarch to assist the Silver Light Legion in sealing the planar tunnels in the city."
Yin Xue’s brow furrowed slightly.
She was still on leave, so even if the Silver Light Legion had a mission, it wouldn’t be assigned to her.
Seeing that the clan Wizards didn’t know much, she didn’t press for more details. She let them leave and then hurried toward the main building without stopping.
Arriving at the study where her father usually spent his time, she saw the Snow Maiden standing by the door and knew at once that her father was inside.
"I need to see my father about something important."
The Snow Maiden glanced at her, but before she could speak, a voice came from within the study.
"Come in."
Only then did the Snow Maiden open the door and let Yin Xue enter.
Yin Yongqin was sitting behind his desk. He looked at his daughter with a gentle gaze and said with a smile, "You went to see Pei Ze today."
Yin Xue wasn’t surprised that her father knew. She grunted in acknowledgment and said, "He just returned from the Ancient Forest Plane."
"He’s certainly resourceful. To think he actually brought back an Ancient Tree Deer Spirit Race Leader. That’s an ancient species of Magical Creature. If cultivated properly, she could become a Seventh-level Combat Power in the future," Yin Yongqin remarked with a sigh.
Yin Xue pressed her lips together, not wanting to continue the topic. She changed the subject, saying, "Father, I heard a Wizard has defected from the city. What happened?"
At the mention of this, Yin Yongqin’s eyes narrowed slightly. He said flatly, "The one who defected was Pan Mo."
"Him! How is that possible?"
Yin Xue was stunned.
Pan Mo was a Councillor of the Dawn Council, a dignified Sixth-level Wizard, and one of the few in Chenxi City with the best chance of breaking through to become a Rule Wizard.
With the Rule Wizards immersed in their cultivation and research, rarely intervening in affairs, Pan Mo could be considered one of the highest-ranking Councillors in Chenxi City.
’How could a major figure of his level possibly defect? It’s simply unbelievable!’
"What’s so impossible about it?" Yin Yongqin casually picked up his black tea, took a sip, and said with an air of composure, "Pan Mo was the Pei Family’s backer. He was tied too deeply to them. He might even have been involved in their research into profane artifacts. He was a target that had to be purged sooner or later."
"Back then, out of consideration for the planar war, the Council only purged the Pei Family and didn’t move against him. Now that the planar war has come to an end, it’s naturally time to settle the score."
"It’s just that the old fox was unexpectedly decisive. Before the Council could make a move, he gathered his people and fled the plane without a moment’s hesitation."
Yin Xue still wore an expression of disbelief. She murmured, "But in that case, isn’t Chenxi City’s situation even worse now?"
The previous destruction of the Pei Family and the near-total annihilation of the Meng Family’s upper echelon had successfully weakened the power of the Bloodline Clans. But Chenxi City also lost a significant amount of combat power in the process. Combined with the attrition from the planar war, the city’s strength had been grievously undermined.
If not for the support from the foreseeably massive profits of the Turin Plane, the city might never have recovered.
Even so, it would still take at least several decades to regain its former strength.
But now, with a Councillor defecting, it was undoubtedly another major blow to Chenxi City.
As if sensing Yin Xue’s thoughts, Yin Yongqin said flatly, "The centralization of power in any Wizard City is bound to come with growing pains. It’s unavoidable."
"Rather than rotting away slowly, it’s better to be ruthless and cut out the diseased flesh all at once. Only then can we welcome a new beginning."
