After the Divorce, My Wife and I Were Both Reborn
Chapter 349 - 346: Making Up for Regrets
Chapter 349: Chapter 346: Making Up for Regrets
Jiang Xia and Lin Yanwan were strolling hand-in-hand through the garden of their residential complex. After hanging up the phone, he couldn’t help but remark with a sigh, "So those two finally got together."
"It certainly wasn’t easy," Lin Yanwan nodded.
After all, Wang Ming and Shen Ying weren’t like them, who came with a built-in couple’s buff. Even in their previous life, the two of them had no connection. In this life, they were more or less set up by Jiang Xia and Lin Yanwan. It had taken over half a year, but they had finally reached a happy ending.
Jiang Xia suddenly had a thought. "Babe, does this mean we’ve successfully rewritten Old Wang’s life trajectory? The worldline won’t try to converge again, will it?"
"I think we have," she said, pursing her lips.
From now on, Wang Ming’s path was free from the influence of that green tea girl. Now truly in love with Shen Ying, they should be together for good. On top of that, he was now the storyboard director for *Cat and Mouse*. With a successful career and a happy life, there was no way the tragedy of his past life would repeat itself. That would just be outrageous.
"I think so too," Jiang Xia exhaled softly.
Since his rebirth, he had saved his father-in-law’s factory from the brink of bankruptcy, rewritten the destiny of his childhood best friend, and made his own parents beam with pride at his accomplishments.
It was safe to say that all the regrets from his past life had been completely remedied. At this thought, an unprecedented sense of relief washed over him.
"Now there’s just one thing left to do," Jiang Xia said with a smile, looking at her delicate profile.
Lin Yanwan raised a slender eyebrow slightly. "Make Qitian Animation number one in the world?"
"It’s marrying you and spending the rest of my life treating you right. As for everything else, it’s not that important anymore," Jiang Xia said, his gaze full of gentleness as he looked at her.
After experiencing the anguish of being torn apart by death in his previous life, money was now just something to have enough of. The title of "Number One in the World," no matter how glorious, wasn’t worth half as much as the love of his family.
Besides, he owed her this.
"Darling, you don’t owe me anything," Lin Yanwan said softly. She could guess what Jiang Xia was thinking.
"So I can’t want to treat you well?" he said with a cheeky grin. "We have all the time in the world this life. And you... you have to give me at least two little cubs. It would be even better if they’re a boy and a girl."
"Babe, want to try out an eighteen-year-old’s body?"
Lin Yanwan couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him. "Pervert."
’He was just running his mouth,’ Jiang Xia thought, inwardly delighted. ’Even if we were going to do something, we’d have to wait until we get back to the Imperial Capital. Once we’re living together with no one to disturb us, we can do whatever we want, for as long as we want. And it doesn’t have to be in bed... It could be the kitchen, the bathroom, the living room, the balcony...’
After wandering around the complex for a little while longer, the two headed upstairs, hand in hand. They got home just in time to see the end of the Spring Festival Gala on TV, with the hosts wishing the entire nation a Happy New Year.
"Wanqiu, we’ll be heading back now. Remember to come over for dinner tomorrow night." Seeing her son had returned, Xia Shanshan stood up to bid farewell to her hosts.
"No problem," Ji Wanqiu agreed with a cheerful laugh. They were going back to their ancestral home to pay respects to their ancestors during the day, so they would be free in the evening.
She then turned her gaze to Jiang Xia and teased, "Xiaxia, want to stay here for the night?"
Jiang Xia replied helplessly, "Mom, please don’t tease me."
’He only wanted to sleep with his girl. Even if he stayed the night here, they would still sleep separately. It made no difference at all.’
’Unless they were arranged to share a bed, but that was impossible just thinking about it. First of all, his father-in-law would be vehemently against it.’
After all, no matter how much a father-in-law liked his son-in-law, he would never want to hear the sound of the pig rooting up the cabbage he’d worked so hard to grow.
"Hahaha, I’m just kidding, just kidding."
They saw Jiang Xia’s family to the elevator, dragging out their goodbyes with another round of pleasantries before finally letting the elevator doors, which had been repeatedly opening and closing, go.
The elevator doors slowly slid shut.
Jiang Wende made a call, and the family stood by the roadside waiting for a taxi. Jiang Xia figured it was about time he bought his dad a car; it would make things much more convenient. At the end of the day, an old pro behind the wheel like him shouldn’t be without his own vehicle.
A few minutes later, a taxi pulled up. Jiang Wende hopped in the front passenger seat, offered the driver a cigarette, and exchanged a few "Happy New Year" pleasantries—enough that the fare would probably be waived.
"Xiaxia, when do you think would be a good time to arrange the engagement banquet?" Xia Shanshan asked.
"Mom, are you planning on inviting a lot of people?" Jiang Xia asked in return.
"Not at all. Just some friends. Between our two families, it’ll probably be just two or three tables. The main thing is to have people there as witnesses."
Jiang Xia nodded slightly. ’In that case, it should be easy to arrange. It’s basically like treating a group of people to a casual meal and announcing their children’s engagement at the same time.’
"We have to leave on the sixth day of the New Year, so if it’s too late, we can’t wait. It’s either before we leave, or Yanwan and I can make a trip back during summer vacation, or we do it next year during the New Year."
"If we wait until next New Year, won’t it be the same situation as now?" Xia Shanshan rolled her eyes.
"Alright, alright. Tomorrow, I’ll find some time to discuss it with your mother-in-law. The sooner, the better."
’The sooner the engagement, the better,’ she thought. The only awkward part was Jiang Xia having to leave on the sixth. A lot of people would still be visiting relatives around then. If they could just delay it by a few days, it would be for the best.
’If that wouldn’t work, they’d just have to move the engagement up to the fourth or fifth. It was just a formality, anyway. The soon-to-be-newlyweds would just make the rounds before the elders to get their faces seen. In practice, it wouldn’t be too much trouble to arrange.’
Back home, Xia Shanshan went to the study to think carefully about who to invite. Once she and Ji Wanqiu finalized the exact time tomorrow, she would call them one by one to invite them to the meal.
Jiang Xia first took a shower in the bathroom, then sat on the sofa to watch the late-night broadcast of *Cat and Mouse*—the wildly popular Si Chuan dialect version, no less.
Jiang Wende sat next to his son, surprisingly engrossed in the addictively funny dialect dub. He would occasionally ask Jiang Xia a few questions about work, and Jiang Xia answered each one.
Before they knew it, it was midnight.
Suddenly, the sound of CRACKLING firecrackers erupted outside the window. In the night, countless fireworks shot into the sky, then blossomed into brilliant displays high above.
The entire city seemed to be wrapped in the rich atmosphere of the New Year.
Jiang Xia stood on the balcony, watching the fireworks continuously rise and explode, illuminating half the sky. He was filled with emotion.
’In the future, any city of a decent size would ban fireworks. It’s been so long since I’ve seen a spectacle this lively.’
’It was a shame they weren’t allowed to set any off in their own complex. Otherwise, he absolutely would have lit up a few bricks of "Ground-Covering Reds" to add to the festive cheer.’
Outside, the POPPING and CRACKLING of firecrackers rose and fell, continuing for nearly half an hour before the sound gradually died down.
He smelled the scent of gunpowder lingering in the air and said softly, "Happy New Year."
