Chapter 348: Chapter 345: Sci-Fi Movie

The remaining fireworks bloomed in an atmosphere of pure bliss. Wang Ming and Shen Ying took a ton of pictures, and he tasted for the first time just how sweet love could be.

As the crowd in the square gradually dispersed, the two of them walked home hand in hand.

"Ying, whenever I’m free, I’ll come see you," Wang Ming said softly.

After his successful confession, he was in high spirits, feeling like he was walking on air.

"No, don’t do that. You should focus on your work. Don’t forget, you’re going to be fully in charge of the storyboards for *Cat and Mouse* this year, so do your best. If you miss me, we can video call every day. And when summer break starts, I’ll come to the Imperial Capital to see you," Shen Ying said with a smile. "When that time comes, you have to show me all around the Imperial Capital, you hear?"

"Mhm!" Wang Ming nodded vigorously.

Distance wouldn’t be a shackle on their relationship. Instead, it would be a catalyst, only making them long for each other even more.

"By the way, Ying, did you know that Jiang Xia and Yanwan have decided to get engaged?"

"So soon?" Shen Ying looked surprised. Clearly, this was the first she was hearing of it.

"Yeah. Both sets of their parents met today to discuss it, and they even asked my mom to be a witness for the marriage. I guess they’ll be holding the engagement ceremony soon."

"That’s great. They should just lock it down. It would be a crime if those two didn’t get married," Shen Ying chuckled.

"I think so too."

Lost in conversation, they arrived at the foot of Shen Ying’s apartment building before they knew it. Wang Ming looked up at the building and asked, "What floor do you live on?"

"The seventh floor."

"Should I go up and say hi to your parents?"

Shen Ying giggled. "If my parents found out I was dating in college, they’d probably chew you out."

"Then let them. I can understand not being allowed to date in high school, but what’s wrong with dating in college?" Wang Ming pouted. It seemed he’d picked up a bit of Jiang Xia’s thick-skinned attitude.

’In any case,’ he thought, ’there aren’t many guys my age more outstanding than me. As long as my future parents-in-law are reasonable people, they’ll know how to pick a son-in-law.’

"Let’s not. I’d rather not get an earful."

"I’ll come see you tomorrow?"

Shen Ying shook her head. "For the first two days of the New Year, I have to go to my hometown to pay respects to our ancestors. I’ll come find you if I get a chance."

"Okay."

Wang Ming felt a pang of disappointment. ’Our relationship has just begun, and I haven’t even held my girlfriend’s hand enough. Now we have to be apart for two days.’

"Well, I’m heading up now," she said.

"Mhm."

"Want a hug before I go?" Shen Ying smiled at him, a hint of mischief in her bright eyes.

’This blockhead is a little too reserved sometimes,’ she thought. ’I can’t believe I have to take the lead on basic couple stuff.’

But she quite liked it.

"Huh? Can I?" Wang Ming scratched his head. Back at the square, when Shen Ying had hugged him, he had been so surprised that he’d just frozen up.

"Of course you can, silly." Shen Ying stepped forward, wrapped her arms around him gently, and whispered in his ear, "Ming, we’re a couple now."

Wang Ming inhaled the faint scent of shampoo in her hair. His arms trembled slightly as he slowly wrapped them around her waist, his mind going wonderfully blank.

"Why are you shaking?"

"Holding you... I’m a little nervous," Wang Ming said honestly.

Shen Ying giggled.

"You dork. Then we’ll just have to hug more often. Once you get used to it, you won’t be nervous anymore," she said shyly.

Now that they had been honest with each other, Shen Ying realized she liked him even more than she had thought.

Wang Ming held her a little tighter. "Ying, thank you. Thank you for agreeing to be my girlfriend."

She shook her head. "Don’t say things like that. A relationship is a two-way street. You like me, and I like you too."

"You’re right. I’ll always, always love you, until we grow old," Wang Ming said with a smile.

"Mhm..." Caught in the flush of new love, the girl blushed and nodded gently.

After holding each other for a long time, Wang Ming gently eased her back.

"Had enough? Or do you want to hug for a little longer?" Shen Ying asked.

Wang Ming shook his head. "You should get going."

She gave a little laugh, then suddenly planted a kiss on his cheek. She immediately spun around and ran up the stairs, leaving only the sound of her soft, gentle laughter echoing in his ears.

"Goodnight, boyfriend."

Wang Ming stood frozen on the spot, watching her disappear around the corner of the stairwell. He subconsciously raised a hand to his cheek, to the spot she had just kissed. It felt like he could still feel its softness.

A smile crept onto his face. ’My Ying is the best girlfriend in the world, too.’

"Goodnight, Ying."

Facing the night wind, Wang Ming exhaled a white puff of breath. With his hands in his pockets, he hummed a tune as he slowly strolled home.

Looking back, everything that happened tonight felt like a dream. It was incredible.

He had never imagined the confession would go so smoothly. Shen Ying had become his girlfriend, just like that. They had held hands, hugged, and she had even kissed him.

It sounded like something out of a science fiction movie.

As he was walking, his phone suddenly rang. He thought it was Shen Ying, but when he pulled it out, he saw it was a call from Jiang Xia.

"Old Wang, how’d it go?" Jiang Xia’s laughter came through the phone. It sounded like Lin Yanwan was there with him.

"Success," Wang Ming said with a smile.

Jiang Xia and Lin Yanwan exchanged a surprised glance. "Shen Ying said yes?"

"Mhm. Thanks, Old Jiang. I’ll treat you to a meal when I get to the Imperial Capital," he said with a smile.

After all, the plan to ask Shen Ying out to watch fireworks on New Year’s Eve and confess to her then had been Jiang Xia’s idea. Jiang Xia had even provided the fireworks they’d set off tonight.

It was no exaggeration to say he deserved most of the credit.

"Congrats, congrats! I knew it. All’s well that ends well for lovers," Jiang Xia laughed heartily. "Where are you guys now?"

"I just dropped her off. I’m on my way home now," Wang Ming said.

"Attaboy. Quick interview: how are you feeling right now?" 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ

"I don’t know how to describe it. It’s just awesome. It feels even better than when I got my acceptance letter from the Central Academy of Fine Arts. I’m so hyped right now, I doubt I’ll be able to sleep tonight."

Jiang Xia laughed. "That’s how it is when you first start dating. You wish you could be stuck to your sweetheart 24/7. You’ll get used to it."

Suddenly, Lin Yanwan’s voice cut in from the other end. "You dog, are you saying your feelings for me have faded?"

"Whoa, whoa, babe! I meant that we’re like an old married couple. How can the deep bond we have compare to rookies like them who just started dating?" Jiang Xia explained.

Listening to them bicker, Wang Ming chuckled. "Old Jiang, I’ll let you two get back to it. I’m hanging up now."

After hanging up, he saw that Shen Ying had just sent him a text.

"Dork, where are you? Home yet?"
