Chapter 220: Chapter 218: A Winner at Life: Accompanied to College by His Wife
"Nanny Su?"
Zhao Ning and Zhou Zijian looked at Su Qing, bewildered. The nickname sounded strange, almost like a real nanny.
"Well, I’m not busy anyway. Right, you guys should hurry up and unpack."
Su Qing smiled and changed the subject. He was just trying to be helpful.
The two of them nodded. They hadn’t expected a rich kid from the Imperial Capital to be so approachable. Still, they could never bring themselves to call him "Nanny Su." For one, they weren’t in the same major, not to mention they felt inferior to Su Qing in every other way.
But the interruption broke the ice, and both of them took out the local specialties they had brought in their bags to share. Jiang Xia had only packed clothes, and Su Qing had brought nothing at all, but that didn’t stop either of them from eating.
"Old Zhao, where are you from?" Jiang Xia asked, munching on a piece of Cloud Cake.
"Liuzhou," Zhao Ning replied.
"Oh, nice! I know about Liuzhou luosifen," Jiang Xia said with a smile.
Hearing his hometown’s food being praised, Zhao Ning blushed and scratched his head. After all, luosifen was just a little-known local snack, and many people couldn’t stand the smell. Just a whiff could make you want to puke.
He had been afraid that bringing it with him to the Imperial Capital for university would make his classmates subconsciously avoid him, so he hadn’t dared to pack any.
"Brother Jiang, if you like it, I can bring some back for you next time I go home. I’m just not sure if you could handle the taste."
"Haha, I’m already immune."
Su Qing asked curiously, "So, what is luosifen?"
"It’s kind of like the Imperial Capital’s douzhi’er or Changsha’s stinky tofu," Jiang Xia explained with a laugh. "They’re not the same thing, but people who like it get really hooked, and people who don’t think it’s disgustingly smelly."
"Mhm! Exactly!" Zhao Ning agreed, nodding emphatically.
"As for Old Zhou, I don’t even need to ask. I can tell from your accent you’re from the Northeast."
"Yep, yep, I’m from Heilongjiang in the Northeast." The moment Zhou Zijian spoke, everyone couldn’t help but laugh, as if he were about to launch into a stand-up routine.
It took the two of them a while to get their beds set up. With nothing to do, Jiang Xia took out his phone to let his family know he’d arrived safely, then logged into QQ to check on Wang Ming.
"Old Wang, how’s it going over there?"
Several minutes passed before Wang Ming slowly replied, "Just finished making my bed. What’s up?"
"Want to come over and grab a bite?"
"Nah, it’s too far. Too much trouble."
If this were the age of smartphones, Jiang Xia could have had a look at what the dorms at the Central Academy of Fine Arts were like.
"Alright, well, let’s get together when we have a chance."
"By the way, Old Jiang, when are you planning to get the studio running again?"
"No rush. We’ll have to wait until after military training at least. Anyway, I’ll slowly send you the storyboards for the third season of Cat and Mouse, and we can just work on them bit by bit."
"Sounds good."
A glance at the time showed it was already 11:30. Zhao Ning and Zhou Zijian were almost done setting up their beds, so Jiang Xia suggested, "Fellas, you want to go grab some lunch together?"
"Sure."
"I hear Tsinghua’s cafeterias are second to none."
"Well, we’ll know if it’s any good once we go try it."
Su Qing pushed up his glasses, watching them with a silent smile. He had actually eaten at Tsinghua’s cafeterias many times. They had all sorts of cuisines, and the food was quite good.
After closing the door, they saw quite a few upperclassmen heading toward the cafeteria. The four of them didn’t know the way, so they followed slowly behind. However, as soon as they left the dorm building, Jiang Xia ran toward the girls’ dormitory up ahead.
"Brother Jiang, you’re going the wrong way! Isn’t the cafeteria over there?" Zhao Ning shouted.
"You guys go on ahead. I’ll catch up with you in a bit," Jiang Xia said, waving a hand over his shoulder without turning around.
Zhao Ning asked, "Brother Su, where’s Brother Jiang going? Isn’t that the girls’ dorm?"
"What else? He’s off to find his wife," Su Qing said with a sigh. "We don’t have to wait for him. We’ll just save him a seat."
Even though they were all freshmen, his roommate was already leagues ahead of countless others on the very first day of school. The crucial part was that his girlfriend was also gorgeous, which was incredibly enviable.
Hearing this, the other two fell silent, as if they’d just taken a massive critical hit. Going to university with your girlfriend... that was a freaking winner in life.
"Brother Jiang is amazing. I’ve never even held a girl’s hand," Zhao Ning said.
"Tell me about it. Been single since the day I was born," Zhou Zijian sighed.
"What about you, Brother Su?" Zhao Ning asked curiously. "You’re so handsome, you must have a girlfriend, right?"
Su Qing shook his head and chuckled. "Same as you guys. My family was really strict growing up. I’ve never even held a girl’s hand."
Hearing even the young master from the Capital City say that, the other two instantly felt a lot better about themselves.
Meanwhile, Jiang Xia stood at the entrance to Dorm Building 5 and called Lin Yanwan.
"Babe, want to get lunch together?"
"Hold on a second."
Lin Yanwan turned to look at Tang Qiuting. She felt it would be wrong to just abandon her, so she covered the mouthpiece and asked, "Qiuting, do you want to come eat with us?"
The young woman pushed up the large-framed glasses that covered nearly half her face. Her face was bright red, and she seemed a bit flustered. "Sister Yanwan, you should just go by yourself. I’m... I’m not hungry right now."
Lin Yanwan guessed she was probably just shy around strangers and was making an excuse. She smiled gently. "Qiuting, you have to take the first step sometime. It’ll be fine with me by your side."
Tang Qiuting hesitated for a few seconds before saying quietly, "But... Sister Yanwan, you’re eating with your boyfriend. It wouldn’t be right for me to tag along."
She couldn’t help but think of the boy she had almost run into earlier. ’He was so bright and handsome. He and Sister Yanwan really are a perfect match!’
Lin Yanwan smiled and asked Jiang Xia, "How many people are with you?"
"Me and my three roommates, so four of us total," he said.
"Oh, over here it’s me and Qiuting, so two of us."
When Tang Qiuting heard Lin Yanwan include her in the count, she couldn’t help but feel nervous.
"See? He’s with four people, so you won’t be a third wheel," Lin Yanwan said with a light laugh.
"Then... okay, I guess..." Tang Qiuting said in a low voice.
The two of them walked out the main entrance of the dorm and immediately spotted the handsome young man standing under the shade of a tree. His gaze was fixed on Lin Yanwan, his eyes only for his wife.
"Where are we eating?" Lin Yanwan asked.
"They went to Bauhinia Garden. It’s supposedly the number one student cafeteria at Tsinghua."
"Okay."
The three of them walked slowly. Jiang Xia glanced at Tang Qiuting next to his wife. The young woman kept her head slightly bowed, not even watching the path, just subconsciously following Lin Yanwan’s lead.
He asked in a low voice, "Is it just you two? Where are your other roommates?"
"They haven’t arrived yet. Probably this afternoon," Lin Yanwan said casually.
"She seems to really rely on you. Are you two getting along pretty well?"
Lin Yanwan glanced at the young woman beside her and also whispered, "Mhm, we’re already good friends."
"Then you’d better take good care of her."
"That goes without saying."
Hearing their hushed conversation, Tang Qiuting silently lifted her eyes to look at them, a sudden wave of emotion washing over her.
’Grandma, you don’t have to worry about me anymore. I’ve met two very, very good people at school.’
