Chapter 119: Chapter 118: Let Me Have a Taste of You~

June 29th, Monday. Sunny, 35°, light breeze.

Today was the last day for Yu Du’s high school graduates to submit their college applications, and it was also the day of final exams for the second semester of first grade for his little sister-in-law, Lin Xiaoman.

Xia Shanshan had left home early to proctor exams at another school. Jiang Xia, on the other hand, arrived at his girlfriend’s house ahead of time, tasked by both his mother-in-law and his own mother with taking his little sister-in-law to her exam.

By now, Ji Wanqiu was more at ease with Jiang Xia looking after Xiao Man than with her own daughter.

The three of them walked happily to Nanshan Primary School, seeing parents and their children heading to the exams all along the way.

The primary school final exams weren’t as strict as the college entrance exams. Students from the same grade were mixed up and randomly assigned to different classrooms, with teachers from other schools proctoring. But all in all, they were still on their familiar home turf.

"Do your best, Xiao Man. We’ll be waiting for you outside."

Jiang Xia patted his little sister-in-law’s head, full of confidence. After all, he had spent the last couple of days helping her review in all sorts of fun ways whenever he had free time.

With two top students who got into Tsinghua, plus an already gifted and diligent student, it would be difficult for Xiao Man *not* to get first place.

"Mhm, Sister, Brother-in-law, I’m heading in! Wait for my good news! Bye-bye~"

Lin Xiaoman smiled and placed their hands, which she had been holding separately, into each other’s. Jiang Xia and Lin Yanwan looked at each other and smiled. Sometimes, you really couldn’t treat Xiao Man like a little kid.

That little girl really spared no effort to get the two of them together.

Watching her little sister bounce into the school with her small backpack alongside the other students, Lin Yanwan gently swung his hand. "Mr. Jiang, where are we going now?"

"Xiao Man only has two exams, one hour each. She should be out around eleven."

"Are we just going to wait out here?" Lin Yanwan took out her phone to check the time. It was just past eight, so they had nearly three hours.

"Let’s just walk around then. Want to go to an internet cafe? Or we could sit in a bookstore?"

"Let’s go to the internet cafe," Lin Yanwan said after a moment’s thought. "But I don’t have my ID. Do I need to go back and get it?"

They were still students, so there wasn’t much for them to buy while window shopping. It was better to just kill time at an internet cafe—play some games, watch a movie, listen to music. Three hours wasn’t long, but it wasn’t short, either.

"No need," Jiang Xia said. "Things aren’t that strict yet in this era. There’s no real-name registration system for internet access; you just have to pay."

"Okay."

Holding hands, they strolled over to a street vendor and bought two drinks, a lemon tea and a honey pomelo tea, perfect for beating the summer heat.

’Poor little sister-in-law,’ he thought. ’We even forgot to buy her a bottle of water just now.’

Lin Yanwan poked her straw through the lid with a POP and took a small sip of her honey pomelo tea. The half-sugar sweetness, with the slight tartness of the pomelo pulp, felt like embracing the entire summer in one sip.

Chewing on the pulp, she turned to look at Jiang Xia. For some reason, it occurred to her that the ’Xia’ in his name meant ’summer’. Did that mean summer would always be by her side?

"Why are you suddenly staring at me?" Jiang Xia touched his face.

Lin Yanwan hugged him for no reason, then nudged him with her elbow. "Let me have a sip. I want to taste yours."

"Don’t you have one in your hand?"

"What if yours tastes better~"

"...Mine’s tea, you know? And it’s only 30% sugar."

"I don’t care, I want to try it!"

"Alright, alright, I’ll give you a sip."

Jiang Xia unzipped his pants—ah, no, he put the straw to her soft, pouting lips.

Lin Yanwan opened her mouth and took a small slurp. Her delicate little face immediately scrunched up.

"Ew~ The lemon is so sour, and the tea is bitter. It’s not sweet enough." She looked up at Jiang Xia, then took another big, difficult gulp.

"How can you like drinking this stuff?"

Jiang Xia chuckled. "I actually like calamansi lemon tea, but they didn’t have it here, so I just picked something similar."

"You try a sip, see what you think."

Jiang Xia tasted it, his expression unchanged. "It seems fine. It’s acceptable. Not that bad."

"Then you drink yours, and I’ll drink mine." Lin Yanwan clutched her honey pomelo tea tightly, afraid he would snatch it away.

"Nope. You tasted mine, so I have to taste yours too."

"Hahaha, no way, no way~"

The two laughed and joked all the way to an internet cafe near Nanshan Primary School. Perhaps because the middle and high school entrance exams were over, the place was nearly full.

Jiang Xia walked up to the front desk, about to ask the attendant if there were any free computers. But when he got a closer look, well, what do you know—it turned out the attendant was an acquaintance.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, looking at Chen Yao.

Chen Yao was also a little surprised, not expecting to run into her old deskmate here. The two of them hadn’t really been in touch since the college entrance exams ended.

"You see me. Summer job. Earning a bit of tuition money for myself," she said with a shrug.

Lin Yanwan, however, just watched Jiang Xia with a placid smile. ’This guy deliberately suggested coming to an internet cafe, and he even specifically led me this way,’ she thought. ’Don’t tell me he already knew his old deskmate was working here as an attendant?’

Her gaze made Jiang Xia’s hair stand on end. As the saying goes, a woman’s heart is a needle at the bottom of the ocean. Who knew what on earth she was thinking right now.

He quickly explained, "Babe, don’t get the wrong idea. I’ve never been to an internet cafe around here before. It’s just close to Xiao Man’s school, so it’d be easy to pick her up later. Besides, this is the first time I’ve seen her since the exams ended."

"Mhm, mhm, I know. You don’t have to explain." She looked at Chen Yao with a smile. Honestly, if it weren’t for Jiang Xia, she would have almost forgotten this person existed.

Chen Yao wasn’t as tall or as pretty as her, and she had faint freckles on her cheeks. But she had a baby face and a petite frame, which in turn made her chest seem large.

In the words of the pervs from later generations, she was a "legal loli" capable of awakening their primal urges.

She didn’t know why she subconsciously felt a sense of hostility toward Chen Yao. Was it really just because she had been Jiang Xia’s deskmate?

Chen Yao glanced up slightly, her expression calm as she looked at Lin Yanwan. Her tone was flat. "Are you two here to use the computers?"

"Yeah," Jiang Xia said. "Can you check if there are two computers next to each other?"

She looked down at the system and shook her head. "Sorry, there’s only one computer free right now. The next pair of adjacent seats won’t be free for at least half an hour, and I don’t know if the people there will add more time."

"Then never mind. We’ll go somewhere else."

Without a moment’s hesitation, Jiang Xia took his girlfriend’s hand to leave. He didn’t know why he felt a little flustered himself. He and Chen Yao were just deskmates; there was nothing else between them.

"No need. Let’s just stay here. I’ll take that one free computer. You two old deskmates haven’t seen each other in a long time, right? Go on, have a nice chat."

Lin Yanwan took out a ten-yuan bill and placed it on the counter, smiling. "Start me for two hours, please."
