After the Divorce, I Unlocked a Perfect Life
Chapter 460 - 276: If I Bully Your Sister, What Will You Do?
"Go on, head back."
"No way I’m going back. I’m going to vet this guy for you, and that’s final."
"You’re just a kid. What do you know?"
"I’m a man, so I know men best. I can tell if a guy is reliable just by looking at him. I have to go with you."
The elevator arrived, and the two of them stepped inside.
"You’ve been chasing a girl for over a year with no results, and you have the audacity to vet someone for me?"
Fang Jie went on the offensive—not with insults, but by hitting him where it hurt.
"Hey, that’s completely different. It’s okay if I’m not happy, but you have to be."
Fang Jie froze, momentarily at a loss for words.
The kid wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but sometimes, the things he said could really tug at your heartstrings.
"Alright, stop worrying about my affairs. We’re just friends. It’s not what you’re thinking."
"Don’t be embarrassed. Does being a divorced mom mean you can’t find a boyfriend? I’d be thrilled if you hurry up and find one."
"That’s a different matter."
"Different matter, same matter—whatever. I’ll know for myself once I see him."
The elevator doors opened, and Lu Junjie was the first to stride out. Left with no choice, Fang Jie had to follow.
Outside the complex, Fang Jie spotted Lin Jiang’s car but realized he wasn’t inside.
’Where did he go?’
She wondered to herself, then spotted Lin Jiang standing by the road, holding a Starbucks Iced Americano and watching some old men play chess.
Following Fang Jie’s gaze, Lu Junjie saw Lin Jiang too.
"Sis, is that him? The guy drinking coffee?"
"Besides him, everyone else is an old man. Who else do you think it could be?"
"Well, if an old man is rich, that’s not a huge problem either."
"I’m going to kick you."
"But I gotta say, the guy is seriously handsome. In all these years, he’s the only one whose looks are on par with mine."
"If your looks were really on par, you wouldn’t be the one chasing a girl for over a year—she’d be chasing you."
"Okay, so he has a slight edge on me."
"Oh, stop bragging."
With that, Fang Jie started walking over, and Lu Junjie followed close behind.
Hearing the clicking of high heels, Lin Jiang turned his head and stood up.
"This is my younger brother, Lu Junjie. He insisted on tagging along."
"Hello."
Lin Jiang put down his coffee and extended his hand.
Lu Junjie also extended his hand, his movement a little unnatural.
As a college student who had yet to leave the campus bubble, he wasn’t quite used to greeting people with a handshake.
"Alright, you’ve met him. You can go back now," Fang Jie said.
Lu Junjie was all talk and no action.
He had talked a big game about having a chat with Lin Jiang, but now that they were face to face, he was tongue-tied.
But he didn’t want to leave. Deep down, he still wanted to vet this man for Fang Jie and see what he was really like.
"Since he’s already here, why send him back? Why don’t we all have dinner together?" Lin Jiang offered politely.
"Sounds good to me," Lu Junjie said, mustering his courage.
"It’s only a little after three. What dinner are you talking about?"
"My brother-in-law offered to treat me to dinner. If I refuse, I’d be disrespecting him."
Now that they had met, Fang Jie had been planning to send Lu Junjie home.
But hearing him call Lin Jiang "brother-in-law" made her secretly ecstatic.
"Then let’s go together. It’ll be time for dinner soon anyway."
Since Lin Jiang had said so, Fang Jie couldn’t object.
"Let’s go to Wanda first. We’ll buy the clothes you need, and then we can get dinner."
"Sounds good."
With a plan in place, the three of them headed to Wanda to buy Lin Jiang a casual outfit and a suit.
Once they arrived at the mall, Fang Jie was in her element.
She led them straight to the third floor, the men’s clothing section.
After browsing a few shops, she had already picked out a suit and a pair of leather shoes for Lin Jiang.
When he came out of the fitting room, Fang Jie was stunned.
He was even more handsome than she had imagined.
’Could even a professional model pull off a suit this well?’
Lu Junjie stood to the side, sizing him up and down, and had to admit that Lin Jiang was indeed a little bit more handsome than him.
"What do you think of this one?"
Lin Jiang looked at his reflection in the mirror. "I think it’s fine."
"This one it is, then."
Fang Jie was about to pay, but Lin Jiang beat her to it.
’No need to let her spend money on a suit that costs over twenty thousand yuan.’
After buying the suit, Fang Jie picked out a casual outfit for Lin Jiang, and one for Lu Junjie as well. She was, by all accounts, an excellent older sister.
By the time they finished shopping, it was already past five, so the three of them went to the fourth floor for dinner.
"We’re eating. Get off your phone."
If it were just the two of them, she wouldn’t have cared what he did.
But with Lin Jiang present, it was just plain rude.
"I can’t. This is important. Everything depends on this."
"What’s going on? Did that girl finally give you a chance?"
"Sort of. She has a competition tomorrow. She said if her team wins, she’ll agree to be my girlfriend," Lu Junjie said without looking up.
"What kind of competition?"
"She’s in a cheerleading competition. She said if her team wins first place in the province, she’ll be my girlfriend."
"A cheerleading competition..."
Fang Jie glanced at Lin Jiang. It was very likely the Super Fun Cup cheerleading competition.
"What’s the competition called? Who’s the organizer?"
"The Super Fun Cup. Super Fun is an app. It’s got some pretty interesting stuff on it; I’m always scrolling through it."
Lu Junjie fiddled with his phone. "Sis, you should download Super Fun later and cast a vote for our school."
Lin Jiang smiled. ’What a coincidence.’
’Whether or not you end up single is entirely up to me, isn’t it?’
"Is it possible for your school to get first place?"
"Of course! We’re guaranteed at least second and fighting for first."
Hearing this, both of them felt the condition was reasonable; it didn’t sound like she was just stringing him along.
"Alright, I’ll help you cast a vote later."
"Now that’s my good sister."
Since no one was drinking, they finished dinner in a little over an hour and prepared to leave.
Lu Junjie had a stomach full of things he wanted to say, but he never managed to get them out.
Strolling leisurely, the three of them made their way down to the first floor, where Fang Jie bought a few small accessories along the way.
"Brother-in-law, there’s something I want to say to you," Lu Junjie said.
"What is it?"
Fang Jie, who was picking out accessories, also heard Lu Junjie and turned to look at him.
"I don’t object to you being with my sister, but you absolutely cannot bully her. If you dare to hurt her, I’ll..."
"What do you think of the Mate X5?" Lin Jiang interrupted.
Lu Junjie looked toward the nearby Huawei store.
"It’s great."
"Which color do you think looks best?"
"The Forest Green colorway is pretty nice."
Lin Jiang walked into the Huawei store next door, where a number of people were busy picking out phones.
Lin Jiang beckoned a saleswoman over. "Get me a max-spec Mate X5, the Forest Green one."
"Right away, sir."
Soon, the saleswoman brought the phone over. After paying, she handed it to Lin Jiang.
"I noticed during dinner that your phone is a bit old. This is for you."
Fang Jie rushed forward. "Why on earth are you buying him a phone?"
"His phone is old. He needed a new one."
"This... this isn’t right..." Lu Junjie wanted it but was too embarrassed to accept.
"What’s wrong with a brother-in-law giving his younger brother-in-law a phone?"
Lin Jiang looked at Lu Junjie and said:
"But what were you saying just now? If I bully your sister, you’ll do what?"
"You should slap her."
Fang Jie: "..."
