After the Divorce, I Unlocked a Perfect Life
Chapter 459 - 276: What Are You Going to Do If I Bully Your Sister?
The mention of yoga pants reminded Fang Jie of that awkward night.
"We’re not buying those!" Fang Jie said, feigning composure.
"You have important business the day after tomorrow. You can’t show up in these casual clothes. Let’s go buy you something more formal."
If Fang Jie hadn’t brought it up, Lin Jiang would have completely forgotten about needing new clothes.
’I don’t plan on going to the land auction, but the contract signing with Li Yuan needs to be a bit more formal.’
"That works."
"We’ll go as soon as we’re done eating."
"Mm."
After finishing their meal, the two of them left.
In addition to the tea they’d bought earlier, Fang Jie also bought two cases of fruit, bringing the total number of gifts to four.
Lin Jiang drove Fang Jie to the entrance of the residential complex.
The security guard wouldn’t let outside vehicles enter, so Lin Jiang parked on the side of the road.
"The Wanda mall is right there. I’ll be out in a bit, and we can pop over then."
"Okay."
Lin Jiang got out of the car and took out the gifts, intending to help Fang Jie carry them inside.
RING RING RING—
Fang Jie’s phone rang.
"Why are you home? Don’t you have class?"
"Alright, just wait at home. I’m almost there."
After she hung up the phone, they soon reached the building entrance and put the items inside the elevator.
"Just wait for me a little while. I’ll try to make it quick."
"No rush. I’ve got nothing else going on anyway."
"Okay, I’m heading up then."
Lin Jiang nodded, then turned and walked back to his car.
The moment she stepped out of the elevator, she saw a young man in shorts and blue flip-flops standing at the door.
"Cousin~~~ You have no idea how much I’ve missed you through all these days and nights."
The young man was being cheeky as he wrapped Fang Jie in a bear hug.
The young man’s name was Lu Junjie. He was Fang Jie’s younger cousin and a first-year graduate student.
Thanks to the traditional closeness of the maternal side of the family, the two cousins were very tight, much like Lin Jiang and Li Yueting.
"Get off, get off, get off! Let go, you’re squeezing me to death!"
"Alrighty."
Lu Junjie helped her carry the gifts out of the elevator.
"If my dad finds out you bought all this stuff, he’ll definitely chew you out."
"It’s nothing valuable. It’s not that big of a deal."
As they spoke, the two of them entered the apartment.
Fang Jie’s uncle and aunt both looked quite young, not old at all.
"You came, that’s all that matters. Why’d you bring gifts?" said Fang Jie’s uncle, Lu Dehai.
This line had become the standard pleasantry for visiting relatives. Regardless of how close the family ties were, anyone who came bearing gifts was greeted with these exact words.
"I just picked up a few things. It’s nothing expensive."
"What do you feel like eating tonight? I’ll take you out."
Just then, Fang Jie’s aunt, Zhang Xiaoqin, brought out some watermelon and cherries, placed them in front of Fang Jie, and said:
"A new neighborhood hot pot place opened downstairs. I heard the owner is from Sichuan, and a ton of people have been going. We should go there tonight."
"Is hot pot okay with you? Do you like it?" Lu Dehai asked.
"I have something else to do, so I can’t stay for dinner. You guys don’t need to trouble yourselves."
"It’s already past three. What else could you possibly have to do? Just eat here."
"Uncle, I really do have something to do. If I were just being polite, I wouldn’t do it with you, of all people."
"Cousin, is this business or pleasure?" Lu Junjie suddenly asked.
"Business, of course."
Fang Jie glared with her beautiful eyes. "What do you mean by that?"
"I just saw a certain someone help you carry the fruit and tea all the way to the building entrance. And I also saw you wipe the sweat from his forehead."
"Hmm?"
The moment he said this, Lu Dehai and Zhang Xiaoqin both turned to look at Fang Jie.
"So, something’s going on? You have a boyfriend?" Lu Dehai asked.
"Your mom said you were here on a business trip. Turns out you were traveling with your boyfriend," Zhang Xiaoqin said, having already made up her mind about the situation.
Fang Jie pinched Lu Junjie. "He’s a friend who drove me over and helped me carry my stuff, that’s all."
Lu Junjie narrowed his eyes and said in a sly, teasing tone:
"Would you wipe sweat off a ’regular friend’? That seems a bit much, don’t you think?"
"Look at this commotion. You brought your boyfriend all this way, why not invite him up?" Zhang Xiaoqin said.
"Quick, ask him what he likes to eat, and we’ll all go out."
Fang Jie hadn’t even reacted, but Zhang Xiaoqin was already in a fluster.
She had the same nervous energy as someone meeting a new son-in-law for the first time without having a gift ready.
"Stop, stop, stop! Everybody just relax. We’re just friends, it’s not at all what you’re thinking."
Fang Jie grabbed her bag and stood up.
"I’m leaving now, so you can stop letting your imagination run wild."
Since it was all family, Fang Jie didn’t feel the need to be formal. She had shown up and observed the proper courtesies, so she was ready to go.
Seeing that Fang Jie was really leaving and had no intention of bringing anyone upstairs, the older couple felt they couldn’t press the issue.
After all, someone was really waiting for her, and they couldn’t hold her up from important matters.
But just then, Lu Junjie suddenly stood up.
"You two, just calm down. I’ll go out and take a look, screen him for my cousin."
"Are you insane?" Fang Jie was so exasperated she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
"This is your cousin’s business, don’t you go meddling," Lu Dehai added.
"Nope, I have to go take a look," Lu Junjie said.
"I didn’t approve back when she was with Zhang Shiping, and look how that turned out! So this time, I have to go with her and check this guy out, screen him for my cousin."
While he was talking, Lu Junjie had already slipped on his shoes and was now standing outside the door, waiting.
Fang Jie couldn’t stop rolling her eyes.
’How did I end up with such a psycho for a cousin?’
Fang Jie put her shoes on as well and stood at the doorway to say goodbye.
"Uncle, Aunt, I’m heading out now."
The older couple stood in the doorway. "If you really do have a boyfriend, bring him back for us to see. I’ll treat him to dinner, and he can pick any restaurant in Bin City."
"Alright, alright, I’m really leaving now."
Fang Jie closed the door, walked right up to Lu Junjie, and pinched his side.
