"You’re right. It’s better to be humble. You shouldn’t let a little money go to your head, so you should leave yourself some wiggle room to avoid complete humiliation!" Seraphina Sterling shot Shelby Fenton a glance, throwing the exact words she’d used to belittle Marshal right back at her.

"Seraphina Sterling—" Shelby Fenton snarled, grinding her teeth.

"Oh, wait, I misspoke. It’s not that *you* have a little money; it’s that the *Fenton Family* has a little money! No matter what, Marshal’s success comes from his own ability and talent. But you? You’re just coasting on your family’s power! Without the Fenton Family, you’re nothing. You’d probably struggle just to survive! Comparing you to Marshal is giving you far too much credit!"

Seraphina beamed, the faint dimples that appeared on her cheeks making her look utterly adorable. "Even if the Fenton Family is wealthy, that money isn’t yours. The family has a legitimate heir, you know. Once Mr. Fenton inherits Fenton Bank, you’ll be left with nothing! So, you really should tone it down a bit. Don’t be so arrogant!"

"Don’t you stand there spouting nonsense, Seraphina Sterling! The Fenton legacy is mine! I will be the one to inherit it! What does a playboy like Leo Fenton, who does nothing but chase women all day, know about anything? For the good of the company, even Dad will have to make me the heir!" Shelby Fenton shrieked in rebuttal.

Seraphina scoffed. "Aren’t you oversimplifying things? No matter how worthless Leo Fenton seems, he’s a man. And no matter how talented you are, you’re a woman. If the bank is handed over to Leo Fenton, the Fenton enterprise remains in the family. But if it’s handed to you, isn’t that the same as giving the Fenton enterprise to your future husband? Do you really think the Fenton elders would give the empire they worked so hard to build to an outsider? Let *you* inherit? I have to say, you truly are naive."

The color drained from Shelby Fenton’s face. Seeing that her words were having an effect, Seraphina pressed her advantage.

"Besides, do you really think Leo Fenton is completely useless? If so, you’re far too gullible. I’ve seen him at the investment firm founded by our upperclassman, Nadia Chapman, on more than one occasion. Do you know what that implies? Would a man so focused on investments and wealth management really be useless? Or maybe... he just wants you, and people like you, to think he’s a talentless, incompetent fool."

"Are you saying Leo Fenton has been hiding his true strength all this time?" A million theories swirled in Shelby Fenton’s mind, but she managed to look at Seraphina with forced composure. "I think you’re overestimating him. Just because he shows up at an investment firm doesn’t mean he’s there for business. It’s far more likely he’s there to hit on women!"

"If that’s really the case, then you have even more to worry about. What if he actually succeeds in winning over Nadia Chapman and makes her a part of the Fenton family? Your position would be even more precarious! In fact, you wouldn’t have the slightest hope left of inheriting anything! Nadia Chapman is an exceptionally capable person. Her startup is a huge success; she’s what you’d call a brilliant young entrepreneur!"

Seraphina’s brilliant eyes narrowed as she watched Shelby’s expression grow increasingly sour. Shelby was starting to waver. ’To defeat someone, you must first break their spirit,’ she thought. Her voice, however, remained light and casual.

"Even if Leo Fenton is as incompetent as you say, unable to support a massive corporation, the head of the Fenton family will still hand the business to him. Why? Because the family would have Nadia Chapman. With Nadia’s help, would they have any reason to fear that Fenton Bank wouldn’t grow and prosper? You got into Aethelgard University on your own merit, so use that intelligence of yours and think. If you were the head of the family, would you hand over the empire you built from the ground up to your son, or to a daughter who is destined to marry into another family?"
