A Warm Marriage After Rebirth

Chapter 424: Chapter 424: Unless We Live Together (4)
Seraphina Sterling, however, wasn’t shocked. With Hugo Xavier as president, Shane Rainier as vice president, and Preston Patterson as a department head, a club founded by those three—and such a prestigious one at that—could never have a shabby meeting place. This was the Stock Trading Club’s first event after recruitment; of course they had to make a show of force. The best way was with something truly awe-inspiring.
Expressionless, Seraphina Sterling simply found a spot and sat down. ’I’m responsible for taking notes, after all.’
"From now on, this will be our Stock Trading Club’s home base. New and old members, get to know one another. We’ll be participating in activities together from here on out! Members who miss three activities per semester will be considered to have withdrawn from the club! Each member will contribute funds according to their financial ability to serve as the club’s activity fund. This money will be used for stock trading! If there are profits, they will be distributed in proportion to each member’s contribution! Naturally, the club will set a minimum buy-in. Anyone who fails to meet that amount cannot participate in this activity!"
As the department head, Preston Patterson began to speak. Overall, he was quite satisfied with this recruitment drive. Just having Shelby Fenton was worth more than all the other new recruits combined. ’The Fenton Family runs a bank, after all. Anyone else might run out of money, but not them!’
"Wait, it’s not a one-time payment? We have to contribute funds for *every* event?" a boy from a well-off family—though not by the standards of this particular group—asked in astonishment.
"Of course you pay per event! Did you think you could just pay once and be done? Are you dense? Use your head, how would that even be possible? Our club isn’t a one-time thing! And you’re studying finance with a brain like that? You’d better switch majors, and fast."
"The minimum for each event is one hundred thousand. That’s not even a lot. If you can’t even come up with that, then why are you even in a stock trading club? You might as well just quit! We don’t need any paupers here! Stock trading is a rich man’s game!"
"I quit!" Stung by the mockery, the student left without another word. ’He might have considered one hundred thousand a semester, but one hundred thousand for every single event? That was truly beyond what someone like him could afford.’
"I’m quitting too!"
"And me!"
"Me too!"
In an instant, the new recruits had quit in droves, until only Shelby Fenton, Seraphina Sterling, and a boy from the College of Industry and Commerce who was absent that day remained.
"Seraphina Sterling, did you hear that? That’s one hundred thousand, not ten bucks. Are you sure you can come up with that kind of cash? And it’s one hundred thousand *every time*, not a one-time fee! You couldn’t afford that even if you sold a kidney, could you?" Shelby Fenton seized her moment to shine. She wasn’t about to waste such a perfect opportunity to put Seraphina Sterling in her place.
"If you know what’s good for you, you’ll just leave on your own. It’s not embarrassing to quit now—didn’t a bunch of people just do it? You can go with them. It’ll look much better than quitting all by yourself later on! I’m just looking out for you, helping you save face. Think about it. In the future, before every event, everyone else will be chipping in hundreds of thousands, and you won’t be able to produce a single penny. Imagine how humiliating that will be!"
Shelby Fenton pulled a bank card from her wallet, a smug look on her face as she eyed Seraphina Sterling. "You’re just some small-town girl who managed to test her way in here. You can’t compare to people like us, born into wealth. Forget one hundred thousand—I could come up with a million right now. But you? Can you?"
Ignoring Shelby Fenton’s provocation, Seraphina Sterling didn’t even spare her a glance. Instead, she turned to the ever-silent Hugo Xavier. "President, aren’t you forgetting something?"
