Chapter 412: Chapter 412: The Resounding Sound of Slaps (8)
College life was supposed to be easy, a time of innocent smiles and unrestrained laughter! So carefree, with so little pressure. That was what the freshmen were experiencing, but Nadia Chapman, already a senior, wasn’t nearly as lucky.
The latest phone developed by Keystone Technologies was already in the final debugging stage. Meanwhile, Apex Wealth Management’s successful launch had attracted many new clients, and existing ones were beginning to increase their investments. Although she wasn’t needed for the detailed operational work, she still had to be the one to meet with clients. In truth, being a little busier didn’t matter; the experience she was gaining from this complex work was an immense asset.
She was already exhausted from her day, and had been looking forward to coming home for some much-needed rest. But, of course, someone just had to make trouble for her.
"Nadia, your wealth management company is doing quite well. The other day, when I was having dinner with some clients, a few business partners wouldn’t stop singing your praises!" Justin Chapman said over dinner. Uncharacteristically, he was actually home.
"It’s just getting started, and we don’t have many clients yet. I wouldn’t say it’s doing ’well’!" Nadia had learned to be shrewd; she was no longer the little girl who craved her father’s affection. She always held back, weighing her words carefully, even with her own family.
"The company has some surplus capital that I’d like you to manage. You’ll need to put your heart into it and earn more for the family!" Justin Chapman was beaming. Having his daughter praised made him, the father, look good, and he was basking in the reflected glory.
Hearing this, Noelle Patterson’s expression shifted subtly. She immediately interjected, "Nadia, this is your father’s hard-earned money. You can’t just lose it all. Besides, we’re all one family. If you’re making an investment for the family, you won’t be charging a commission, will you?"
’So that’s what this is about.’ Nadia put down her chopsticks. "Dad, do you really want to entrust these funds to my company? Are you sure The Chapman Group has enough cash flow to support its normal operations? What if an unexpected situation arises? Will it still be fine? If this capital is to be used as a managed investment, it can’t be withdrawn on short notice. You need to think about this carefully."
"I understand the rules, of course. Don’t worry," Justin Chapman explained. "The company is operating very stably right now; there won’t be any problems. Besides, this capital is from the company’s profits, it’s not involved in our normal business operations."
"In that case, if you trust my company, Dad, then hand the funds over to my company. But it is, by nature, a high-risk investment. I cannot guarantee a one hundred percent profit. With high returns, there are, of course, high risks. If you’re investing with the mindset that you’re guaranteed to make a profit, then I would advise you not to choose my firm. I’m confident that no wealth management company will ever guarantee a one hundred percent return."
Nadia maintained a completely professional demeanor, treating Justin Chapman as if he were just another client.
"I know that, but all of your company’s clients made a profit this time. That proves your judgment and skills are top-notch. I believe in you. As long as you’re personally handling the investment, the chances of making a profit are much higher."
In truth, Justin Chapman had wanted Nadia to manage his funds for a long time. But Nadia had previously made it clear that she would not help anyone with personal investments. Now that she had opened a wealth management firm, he had watched it for a while. Seeing that the company was running well and all of its clients had profited, he finally felt comfortable entrusting his capital to her.
"Since you’ve thought it all through, you can just come to the office tomorrow to handle the paperwork. However, the commission will be the same as for any other client. That’s the company’s primary source of revenue, so I absolutely will not waive it." Nadia didn’t budge. ’First of all, it’s not my company to begin with, so I can’t agree to something this major on my own. And even if it were, I wouldn’t let the Chapman family take advantage!’
"Nadia, that’s just wrong of you. We’re all family, do you really need to be so calculating? Justin is your father! You’re going to charge your own father? Isn’t that going too far? Do you even consider this your home? Do you even consider Justin your father?" Noelle Patterson interjected, once again sowing discord.
"Even blood brothers keep clear accounts. This has nothing to do with me being part of the Chapman family. If we follow your logic—that because we’re all family, I must waive my commission—then does that mean if I go to buy a house from The Patterson Group, I don’t have to pay for it? I hear homes from Miss Patterson’s family are hot sellers!" Nadia refused to back down, her words shutting Noelle Patterson down completely. ’It’s not like she would ever agree to give me a house. But if she actually did, I’d waive the commission. I wouldn’t lose out either way!’
Noelle Patterson was left fuming and speechless.
"Your Miss Patterson isn’t a businessperson; she doesn’t know the rules, that’s why she said that. Don’t mind her." Left with no other choice, Justin Chapman stepped in to smooth things over.
Nadia let out a dry laugh. "If Miss Patterson doesn’t understand the rules of business, then she shouldn’t meddle in business affairs. We’re at the family dinner table, so no one here will mind. But if someone heard her say that at a business banquet, we’d be a laughingstock. The Chapman family isn’t what it used to be. Words like Miss Patterson’s only make people think the Chapmans have become petty, without a shred of a great family’s dignity!"
"Nadia Chapman! Haven’t you said enough? So what if you’ve opened two companies? What’s so impressive about that?! My mom is your elder, is that how you’re supposed to treat an elder? Stop throwing your weight around and bringing your corporate attitude into this house! We’re not buying it! If you dare to disrespect my mother again, then get the hell out! This isn’t your home! This is a home for the three of us!" Fiona Chapman shrieked.
