Chapter 380: Chapter 380: Pulling Faye Sterling’s Fangs (Part 4)

"I don’t know what sins the Sutton Family committed in a past life to end up with a son like you—someone who can’t even tell right from wrong. The empire your ancestors worked so hard to build, the legacy they fought for, is all going to be ruined in your hands! If the Suttons’ late elders knew about this, I wonder if they’d claw their way out of their graves to come take your life!"

"Seraphina Sterling, stop your damn nonsense! You’re keeping us from welcoming a VIP, getting in the way of my important business! Watch yourself, or I’ll put you in a hospital bed for a month!" Kellan Sutton’s face darkened as he raised his voice, trying to put her in her place.

Seraphina really wanted to laugh, and she did. Her bright eyes sparkled with mirth. "It’s not that I’m underestimating you, nor am I looking down on you, but putting me in the hospital for a month? You really can’t pull it off. As they say, the fantasy is rich, but reality is a harsh mistress. Use that brain of yours—and your brain stem, for that matter—and think. Do you honestly believe the drill instructor would have let me leave military training early if I weren’t capable?"

Seraphina looked at him with mock pity. "It seems you not only can’t tell right from wrong, but your intelligence is a serious concern. Mr. Sutton is a pretty smart man. How did he end up with a son who’s so clearly lacking in the brains department? If I were him, I’d either ship you back to the countryside or lock you up at home. At least then you couldn’t go around making a fool of yourself. You’ve completely disgraced the Sutton Family name!"

Seraphina threw Kellan Sutton’s words right back at him, not missing a single beat. A war of words? ’This is a battle I’ve never lost.’

"You’re asking for it—" With that, Kellan Sutton moved to throw a punch at Seraphina.

"Kyle! What are you doing out here? I sent you to greet our guest. Why are you dawdling in the hallway? Mr. Xavier and I have been waiting for a while now!" Franklin Sutton pushed open the door to their private room as he spoke. Kellan, whose fist was raised mid-swing, was caught red-handed. He had no choice but to drop his hand.

"Dad, it’s not my fault! It’s all Seraphina Sterling’s doing! She was blocking my way, and I couldn’t get past her to go outside! On top of that, she was trying to force her way into our room. I mean, who does that? So much for being the great Miss Sterling. Even commoners know not to invade someone’s private space without an invitation. She doesn’t have the manners of a common farmer’s daughter!"

Kellan thoroughly denigrated Seraphina in front of his father. His guiding principle was simple: never pass up an opportunity to demean Seraphina Sterling. Never pass up a chance to stick up for Faye Sterling. Upholding and defending Faye’s honor was his entire code of conduct.

Seraphina shot him a glance, a sneer flashing in her eyes. "Kellan Sutton, how old are you? Only little kids in kindergarten run crying to their parents when they lose a fight, asking them to stick up for them. I can’t believe you’re a grown man and you’re still pulling that stunt. Your intelligence really is a lost cause!"

"SERAPHINA STERLING—" Kellan Sutton ground his teeth so hard it was audible. He was so furious with Seraphina he felt like he could cough up blood.

"Don’t even try to deny it. If it’s not a matter of your dismal intelligence, then it must be that you still haven’t been weaned off your mommy’s milk, always needing your parents to fight your battles. Or maybe you’ve just grown taller over the years, not smarter. So, which is it? Don’t be afraid to seek help! When you’re sick, you need to get treatment!" Seraphina offered her advice with utmost sincerity.

"You—" Kellan surged forward, but before he could lay a hand on her, the door to the private room opened once more. This time, Joel Xavier stepped out. "President Sutton, Kellan, why are you all standing out here? There’s a perfectly good room right there, yet you’re all crammed into the hallway!"
