I was lying on my bed, reading a novel with a pillow tucked under my arms. When the door to my room opened with a bang, startling me. I didn't have time to turn my head that a missile landed on my back with a giggle, knocking all the air in my lungs in one go.

"Jake! I missed you!" Said the sweet voice of my older sister.

"Oof... Hey.. Anna" I say, struggling to catch my breath.

I lifted my head and turned it a bit, seeing a gorgeous face with purple eyes looking at me with a wide smile. I give her one of mine.

"Could you, I don't know, not try to suffocate me first thing you see me?"

She shrug a little and goes to nuzzle my back with a blissful expression, tightening her arms around me. A little whine escape my mouth. Her hugs are often crushing.

"Nope! Missed you too much for that! Can't go without hugging my dear sis- I mean brother!" She caught herself before changing her words.

It make me a little bit sad. But there's nothing we can do about that. I shake my head to get rid of those thoughts, I know myself. If I think about that I will spiral into depression or something like that. And with how Anna reacted the last time it happened. Yea, I don't want her to be sad.

"C'mon, we saw each other two hours ago before you've gone for your club." I answer while shaking my head at my sister's actions.

She lifted her head for a second, pouting slightly and glaring at me.

"That's still too long! So let me have that." Her tone wasn't open for negotiations, making me smile while she restarted her nuzzling on my back.

I took my novel back to continue reading, letting her be. Even if it seemed like I'm complaining about her, I'm absolutely not. I love cuddling with Anna. She's the only one in that damned house that doesn't treat me like shit.

After a few minutes, I felt Anna stir a bit before my back vibrated. She was trying to speak without lifting her head. I wiggled a bit with a laugh.

"Anna, if you want me to understand... Don't talk while your face is smushed against me please."

A giggle escaped her before she changed position, putting her hands together with her chin on top of it.

"Wanna hang out in my room? I'm sure your viewers miss you. And I do want to listen to you play." She said, her voice taking on a coaxing tone, sending shivers to my back.

Damnit I need to do something about that, nice voices are my anti-thesis. I can't say no...

"Fine let's go. There's some time before dinner anyway." I say with a bit of resignation.

"Yay!"

Anna rolled down from my back, springing on her legs besides my bed. I got up too, stretching toward the ceiling before rubbing my back.

"You didn't go gently, Anna... Ouch."

"That's because you don't exercise enough idiot!" She countered, hands on her hips and a nagging expression on her face.

I waved my hands half-heartedly with a smile. She was always the more sport-oriented between us. I do like sports. But I'm less in it than her. It's not that I'm lazy. But there's always a feeling that... Something's wrong when I try to move my body. Its not answering like I would like it to. So I've recently been quite slacking off in my training. I shouldn't, really. But I can't help it.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever sis. Let's go to your room. You still have what I need, right?"

"Of course!"

On those words she left my room with a spring to her steps. I shook my head, smiling, before following her out, only for my smile to vanish. One of them is here, right in front of my room.

Our family is big, well not two digit big, but still. There's five kids, including me, four boys and one girl. And one of them is currently confronting my sister in front of my room. A sigh escaped my lips while I grab Anna's arm and tug on it to put her behind me.

"What do you want Pete Denki? I suppose it's not Anna you want to bother." I say, crossing my arms.

I'm a bit annoyed that I have to lift my head to look at him in the eyes. I'm pretty small, less than 1m60, while he's almost 1m80. Well, him and my other brothers. They are triplets and always together. I actually do wonder where are the other two. I peek around him and on the hallway, but I see no one.

"I was just wondering what the useless thing was doing that's all." He answered with a shrug, a smile on his face. "I wonder what weapon you'll get tomorrow. I'm sure you won't even lift a twig with your noodles for arms"

I hear Anna gritting her teeth and I reach out behind me to give a little reassuring pat on my twin's arm.

"What's that got with you I wonder? It's not like you are really interested in that."

"I do want to know if you will be a real man after that. That's all. Anyway, I have shit to do compared to you two. My girlfriend is waiting for me. Cya loser"

With a smug grin and a wave of his way-too-big hand, he walked down the hallway toward the front door.

Our house isn't big nor small. It's just right. When you enter there is a hallway with three doors, one is my room, the second one open to the living room. And the last one is Anna's room. I'm quite glad about that configuration actually. It means I can go to Anna's room without really alerting anyone, unless they happen to go out or come in, and I also don't have to see anyone.

I guess the only bad side is that the bathroom is after the living room and between everyone else rooms.

"I swear I'll carve a new hole in their body once we get our awakening!" Anna says through gritted teeth.

I turned around to look at her. Fortunately she's the same height as me so this time I don't have to hurt my neck to look into her eyes. I take her hand in mine, offering a little smile.

"Let it go An' you know I don't care about that. They can say whatever they want. I know what I am. C'mon, you wanted me to play no? I'll play for you."

Without waiting for her answer I turn around again et pull her hand, going toward her room. Once inside I take a few seconds to take a look at the insides. Her room is the same size as mine. But while mine is almost bare, courtesy of some people, hers is an explosion of colours everywhere. There's posters of various girls band, mostly in frilly dresses quite short at that. Her walls between the posters have splash of colours that doesn't feel weird. One of those walls is occupied by a bookshelf that take the whole wall, filled to the brim by Girls Love manga and light novel.

I shake my head with a smile at that. At least Anna is very open with her orientation and I'm proud of her for that. But strangely enough she never got a girlfriend, at least she never said anything to me.

On the opposite of her bookshelf is two computer next to each other, two full gaming set with everything it needs: chair, headset, microphone, webcam and the PCs that are just monsters of a machine. Each with two monitor.

Those are our gaming set. Of course one of them is for 'Anna's friends' that comes sometimes. Another advantage to having our rooms just next to the front door, our parents and brothers never really know who comes home. They just trust Anna.

But the truth is that the second PC is for me, not any of my sister's friends. Since our parents quite dote on her, surely because she's the only girl but that's only my guess, they never bother her in her room. So it's the only place where I can also be at peace and be myself.

I shake those thoughts out of my head and just walk to her closet after releasing her hand. She goes to sit on her bed, a queen size one with pink sheets and enough pillow to drown in it, while I open the door of her closet. In a corner I find a case that seems to be for a guitar, but smaller.

In it isn't a guitar at all, but a violin. A simple one that have seen quite a lot in its life. It's only second hand because I couldn't afford a new one and lessons.

My hand glide over the body of the instrument, a smile tugging on my lips. A deep breath makes its way out of my chest and I face Anna, finding her looking at me with her eyes sparkling.

I chuckled at that and put the violin under my chin.

"Alright, what do you want me to play? Remember that I don't know a lot of songs yet."

"Euterpe!" Her answer came so fast she almost bit her tongue.

With an acknowledging nod I placed the bow on the instrument, took a deep breath, and started playing.

My playing wasn't the best, I knew that, but it came from my heart. When I saw one day a video of a violinist I knew that instrument was for me. At least I had the impression it was calling to me. So I saved-up as much as I could, taking on many side-gig and over-extending myself until I was so tired that I collapsed on my bed every day.

For someone not even eighteen yet it was hard. But it paid off. I could afford that violin and the lessons. Turns-out that I could pick it up pretty quickly. So much that I didn't need to pay anymore lessons, I could just find some videos for it.

Coming back to the present instant, I looked at Anna for a second, catching her with her eyes closed and swaying to the rhythm of my music. A smile made its way to my lips.

A few minutes later I finish my song and put down the violin, a fine layer of sweat on my forehead. Sadly, even if I can play, it tire me a lot because of the way my body feels wrong. Too short and big fingers, arms too long etc.

Anna opened her eyes before flashing me a smile that made me feel warm.

My sister is the best

"That was great! Did you improve since last time?" She asked, tilting her head.

"Yeah, a bit. I've been learning on my phone. I can't really go to your room when you aren't here. Even if they don't see me, they'll hear. And of course I can't practice in mine. They don't know I can play. And I intend to keep it like that." I say while shrugging.

"That's fair. They... Wouldn't appreciate that. At all. It would be 'not manly enough' for them." She answers with a nod and a sigh.

I just smile ruefully at that. Our parents have some views that neither Anna or me agree with. Heck, even her sexual orientation is questioned every day. Like I said, they do love her to death. But they still don't agree with her loving girls this way. Of course I support her all the way. I even tease her with some of our classmates she made the mistake to tell me she found them cute.

While I was putting away my violin a thunderous voice made the walls tremble.

"JAKE! ANNA! DINNER'S READY! COME EAT!"

It was our father, never one to talk quietly. Or just coming to knock on our doors to let us know. Well, I prefer it like that. At least they don't see me in Anna's room, since I'm 'forbidden from entering it'. I don't even know the reason, and when I ask the only answer I get is 'It's not proper for a girl and a boy to be in the same room'.

Please I'm her twin. And she likes girls! There's obviously another reason, but I don't know what it is.

I look at Anna and gesture to the door.

"C'mon let's go. Or His Majesty will be mad."

It made her giggle a bit before she got up from her bed, taking my hand in hers then going to her door. I let her drag me with a smile, but try to let go once we are in front of the door to the living room. She doesn't let me and put a bit more force in hers, squeezing it a little. With a quick glare my way over her shoulder she just push open the door.

My eyes closes for a second at that. I know what will be their reactions, and like always I will not like it. And the next moment makes me right.

"JAKE DENKI. You WILL let go of your sister's hand right now!" That same thunderous voice from earlier scolded me the instant we're in sight.

"Yes, father." I answer, my voice a little shaky.

I feel Anna's hand tremble in mine and I give her a small reassuring squeeze and a smile when she turn her head toward me. I can see her teeth clenched, her jaw set with anger, but I still let go. Turning my sight to the owner of that voice, our father.

He's a towering man full of muscles, his torso is so big his shirt is silently screaming in pain trying to restrain it without cracking. I always wondered why he never bothered to, I don't know, wear something a size bigger? But each time I shoot that thought out, of course it's to show-off. Always.

Like he's showing off his bright red eyes that seems to glow a bit. Or how he likes to keep his fangs in the open. Who does he think he is? Dracula?

Because yes. My father is a vampire. Something about the awakening at eighteen years old. It doesn't happen to everyone, but sometimes it does. I don't understand how it works really. But well, he's really proud of being one of the few to gain a new race.

Our mother isn't a vampire. But you could almost think she's one. She's like the stories or novel I read sometimes: red eyes, white hair, a face that could seduce anyone with how gorgeous it is. I do actually think Anna got her beauty from her. She does say I'm the same, twin and all, but I don't believe her. She's my sister, so of course she's going to say some nice things to reassure me.

"Sit down now, we'll have dinner" Our mother says, her tone cold while looking at me for the first part, but warming up for the second when she looks at Anna.

"Yes mother." I answer, giving another smile to my sister before sitting down.

She stubbornly sit next to me, when our parents obviously wanted her to sit between them so they could spoil her. I wince a bit when I see my father frowning in displeasure, something Anna royally ignore.

Dinner tonight is simple, a simple bowl of ramen.

Looks like mother is feeling japanese food today.

There's words out there that it's better to not eat too much the day before the awakening. Some can be... Violent, and some could make you throw-up everything you ate before. Once again, I'm confused on how that works but whatever I guess.

The beginning of the dinner went in silence, but after a few minutes I could feel my father's gaze on me. I lifted my head to look at him, confused. He smiled while showing his fangs, again.

"Jake. I hope you won't disappoint us tomorrow. I want you to come back here as a real man, not... This."

To make his point he grab my wrist lightning fast and lift my pretty thin arm. I sigh internally. Not this again, first my brother now him? I can almost hear Anna growling through her lips next to me. Discreetly, I place my hand on her knee and squeeze briefly. I feel her own hand covering mine.

"I'll do my best father. I'm not hungry anymore. Could I go sleep now? Please." I answer him, struggling a bit to reign in my own anger.

He doesn't really answer me, but let go of my wrist and just nod. I get up, wishing a good night to my mother and offering a smile to Anna before going to my room.

A few minutes later, while I was lying down on my bed with the lights shut, my phone tells me I have a message.

[Anna- Best Sis in the world] : I will hit him once too Jane! I swear!

A chuckle escaped me when I saw that, a warm feeling spreading through my body. Not only because of her overprotectiveness.

[Jane] : You will do nothing like that sis, go to sleep now. We have something important tomorrow.

[Anna- Best Sis in the world] : Okay okay, night! Love you!

[Jane] : Love you too.
