Chapter 2717: Chapter 1838: Searching for Survivors

The moment he saw these Zombies, Duanmu Huai naturally figured out which Evil God was behind this world. After all, if you searched the whole Milky Way, there weren’t many who could make things this disgusting.

Only, unlike the shambling, turtle-crawl Zombies in his impression, the Zombies here were all sprinting like track stars, the kind that could probably break records in the 100-meter dash. He had to admit, when hundreds and thousands of Zombies screamed and lunged at him with arms wide open, the scene was pretty damn spectacular.

Useless as hell, though.

Duanmu Huai gripped his Chainsaw Sword and swung it forward in a sudden slash. A streak of sword light burst out in an instant, sweeping across the entire street and vanishing into the Zombie horde. The next second, all those sprinting Zombies had their bodies chopped clean in half. At the same time, the skyscrapers beside them tilted and then slowly collapsed, crashing heavily down onto the street.

"BOOM!!!"

The thick steel and concrete completely buried the street, smashing those Zombies into meat paste. Even if they weren’t totally dead, it wasn’t going to be easy for them to claw their way out.

"Well, this is a pain."

Duanmu Huai withdrew his Chainsaw Sword and sighed silently. Normally, he couldn’t be bothered with worlds like this. Once Corrupted Foil contaminated a place, he would either sweep it clean with Light Spear or just go straight to Neutron Annihilation. Unfortunately, it was obvious both sides planned to wage a plague war on this planet now... and that was exactly the kind of thing Duanmu Huai hated most.

Plus, the civilization in this world didn’t look very advanced, which made things even more troublesome.

Not to mention whether there were any living people left... that was another problem.

Judging from how these Zombies reacted, having survivors would actually be the weird part, but who knew?

And even if they were alive, they weren’t necessarily good people. They were more likely to be Believers of Corrupted Foil. Duanmu Huai had seen this plenty in games—Corrupted Foil’s ability to disgust people was top-tier, and plenty of folks chose "if you can’t beat them, join them" when facing that thing. So if Duanmu Huai ran into a bunch of Corrupted Foil Believers in this world—or even huge crowds of Corrupted Foil Believers—he wouldn’t be surprised at all.

"So what do we do now, Master?"

Medea asked, while Ogis once again nimbly climbed back onto Duanmu Huai’s shoulder, sat down, and silently watched the surroundings without saying a word.

"Anyway, first we figure out what happened in this world, then we go find survivors. A plague like this definitely has a ground zero, and usually that fat shut-in likes to hang around the core of the outbreak, nurturing its beloved little lifeforms... Mad, if I had a Warship I’d just go straight for the Extinction order..."

Duanmu Huai clenched his teeth as he spoke. The situation in front of him was pretty bad. Clearly Corrupted Foil had gotten out before he did, which probably meant this world had already turned into a plague-ridden, rotten backyard. In that case, he’d be fighting many with few. It wasn’t that he couldn’t fight like that, but Duanmu Huai was seriously annoyed.

"Anyway, first we investigate, then we find a batch of survivors, then we train them into warriors, and then we go wipe those bastards out."

Duanmu Huai also wanted to test just how strong he was after stacking God of Destruction with Struggle Divine Position. Since the other side was using Human Sea Tactics, they couldn’t blame him for shamelessly dragging in a whole bunch of God-chosen.

But before that, the important thing was to actually find people.

Survivors weren’t something you could just stumble over by wishing.

Once they settled on a plan of action, everyone moved out immediately. Medea flew into the sky to scout the area, the others split into several small teams to search around, and Duanmu Huai walked over to a newsstand by the street and started reading the newspapers.

In situations like this, newspapers usually had something.

But to Duanmu Huai’s disappointment, there wasn’t much useful in the news. The only solid info he pulled was that this epidemic virus outbreak had happened suddenly. No one knew where it started. The articles just called it a sudden infectious disease. At first, they told mild cases to self-isolate at home to prevent the medical system from collapsing, but then a massive wave of mutations happened at the hospitals—yeah, made sense. Since the ones lying in hospitals were all severe cases, in Duanmu Huai’s eyes those places were basically Zombie hatcheries. Once that wave of severe patients all turned into Zombies, the first unlucky ones were obviously the hospitals.

The following papers mainly reported on the police sealing off hospitals and clashing with civilians, then the military rushing in and the situation escalating. The infection spread, even the Soldiers got infected on a large scale, and then it all turned into multiple outbreaks everywhere, with Zombies flooding the streets.

And clearly, all this had happened very quickly, because the latest issue was still calling on the public to stay calm and avoid interfering with special military operations.

Looking at this city now, there was no such thing as "special military operations" anymore.

While Duanmu Huai was skimming the papers, the others came back.

"No signs of anything nearby."

Mary shook her head.

"This city has been fallen for a while now."

"I also took a look around. Didn’t find any signs of life. At least nothing visible to the naked eye."

Medea came down from the sky as well, bringing back a pretty grim answer.

"Considering how much the Zombies in this world love running around in big mobs, even if there are survivors, they’re probably hiding very, very quietly........."
