Chapter 74: Chapter 74: One Against Six

"It’s way too spiritual, isn’t it? Can it actually understand what we’re saying?" Watching the little wolf cub, Lin Xue was even more tempted.

"It’s really smart." Lu Chen reached out to touch the little wolf, then looked proudly at Lin Xue, hinting that she could pet it too.

"So nice. I want to touch it too." Lin Xue looked and looked, but still didn’t dare to put her hand out.

That’s a wolf!

Fu Xiaoxiao and Lin Xue played with the little wolf cub, while Lin Qiu kept glancing toward the door. After waiting a while and still not seeing Fu Cheng come back, Lin Qiu was getting restless.

"Could he have trouble finding your place? Should we go out and take a look?" Lin Qiu stood up anxiously and asked Fu Xiaoxiao and Lin Xue.

"Then let’s go check." Seeing how anxious she was, Fu Xiaoxiao laughed and pulled Lin Xue up.

The two of them chuckled to themselves—she’d said it was nothing, but look how worked up she was.

"Chenchen, watch the house, we’ll be back in a bit." Fu Xiaoxiao smiled at Lu Chen.

"Okay." Lu Chen answered obediently, watched Fu Xiaoxiao and the others go out, then sat down beside the little rabbits with the wolf cub in his arms. "Little Wolf, these are our rabbits, you’re not allowed to bite them to death, okay? When they’re grown, we can have Mrs. Fu turn them into something tasty..."

"Awooo!" The little wolf cub watched the rabbits running around everywhere and let out a responding howl.

Fu Xiaoxiao and Lin Xue followed behind Lin Qiu, the group heading toward the base gate. Halfway there, they saw quite a few soldiers running toward the gate.

"Something happened?" Fu Xiaoxiao froze for a second. Lin Xue reacted right away, grabbed Fu Xiaoxiao and Lin Qiu, and sped up toward the gate.

Lin Qiu’s heart clenched, thinking of Fu Cheng, and she quickened her pace.

When the three of them reached the gate, they saw the soldiers standing in a circle, with sounds of fighting coming from inside.

"Oh no, they’re fighting." Seeing the scene, Lin Qiu panicked.

Fu Xiaoxiao listened to the soldiers shouting and cheering.

"Go for his legs!"

"Hey! Defend! Pull back fast!"

"Where’d this wild man come from, how is he so strong, three guys can’t hold him down."

"Should we go up and help?"

"Help what! It’s just one guy, if six of us still can’t take him down, if that gets out, how are we supposed to show our faces?"

"Hurry up and take him down! How can we let someone stomp on our turf!"

Listening to them, Fu Xiaoxiao actually relaxed. At least this "cousin’s" skills were clearly above theirs; that sinewy muscle on him wasn’t for show.

"It’s okay, looks like he’s got the upper hand right now." Fu Xiaoxiao gently patted Lin Qiu to calm her.

Fu Xiaoxiao moved to the back of the soldiers and patted the shoulder of the one in front.

"Who is it? Can’t you see... uh, Sister-in-law." The soldier in front, annoyed at being disturbed, turned back—and the moment he met Fu Xiaoxiao’s eyes, he deflated instantly.

"Can you let us through?" Fu Xiaoxiao asked with a smile.

"You can, you can. But Sister-in-law, it’s dangerous up there..." The soldier scratched his head awkwardly, then patted the guy in front. The ones blocking the way turned and, seeing it was Fu Xiaoxiao and the others, all stepped aside on their own.

"Thanks." Fu Xiaoxiao moved to the front row, and quite a few soldiers noticed them.

"Sister-in-law, be careful, that guy’s dangerous. Don’t get hurt." Several soldiers called out reminders.

"’Cousin’!" Fu Xiaoxiao gave them a slight smile, then turned and shouted at Fu Cheng, who was being besieged by six soldiers.

"Fu Cheng." Lin Qiu followed right behind Fu Xiaoxiao and yelled at the man.

The man, who’d just gotten worked up enough to want to go all out with them, heard Lin Qiu’s call and immediately pulled back his fists. The six soldiers seized the moment, rushing up to tackle him to the ground.

"Kid, what do you think this place is, that you dare come here and run wild!" The soldier pinning Fu Cheng down thought they’d finally beaten him and pressed him in triumph.

The soldiers watching around the circle had seen clearly—it was because the man pulled his punches that the six of them managed to get him down.

"Don’t get cocky, he’s the one who stopped." A soldier said with a laugh.

Fu Xiaoxiao slowly stepped up to the six and said, "Sorry, is there some misunderstanding here? This is my cousin, Fu Cheng. He came specially to visit me."

Seeing Fu Xiaoxiao, the soldiers holding Fu Cheng paused, then, understanding what she meant, exchanged looks and let him go.

"Cousin, are you okay?" Fu Xiaoxiao looked at the man. He stood up and gave a cold nod, casually wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth.

"Uh, Sister-in-law... this is your cousin?" Looking at the tall, wild-looking man, then at the delicate-featured, graceful Fu Xiaoxiao, everyone had trouble processing it. Where did they look related at all?

"Yeah. Was there some misunderstanding? My cousin was sent up the mountain when he was little, so he doesn’t interact with people much and doesn’t like to talk." Fu Xiaoxiao explained.

The gate guard scratched his head. "Sister-in-law, as soon as he came, he tried to barge in, saying he wanted to see his cousin. But he wouldn’t say who his cousin was. We couldn’t hold him back, and then it turned into a fight."

Mostly it was that the way Fu Cheng looked didn’t scream "family visit," it screamed "here to cause trouble." They didn’t dare let him in. When they blocked him, he got mad, and then things escalated into a fight.

He flipped two of them by himself; later, the training soldiers came to help, and they got flipped too.

They’d swapped out several groups of men and still couldn’t pin this guy down.

"Sorry, he definitely didn’t explain himself clearly." Fu Xiaoxiao patted Fu Cheng, signaling him to apologize to everyone.

Not knowing what "apology" even meant, Fu Cheng gave the soldiers he’d beaten a contemptuous look and snorted.

Seeing that, Lin Qiu came over and glared at him. "Come on, apologize to them."

Seeing Lin Qiu angry, Fu Cheng finally put away his earlier disdain, lowered his head, and slowly squeezed out two words to the soldiers.

"Apologize."

"..." If the timing weren’t so wrong, Fu Xiaoxiao would’ve burst out laughing.

"You’re supposed to say you’re sorry to them." Lin Qiu smacked him in anger.

"Sorry." Fu Cheng changed it accordingly.

Except his tone had absolutely zero sense of having done anything wrong; Fu Xiaoxiao could hear the "couldn’t care less" hidden in that "sorry."

"What’s going on here?" Liu Hongjun hurried over, saw Fu Xiaoxiao, then looked at the man beside her and frowned.

"Reporting, Commander, here’s what happened..." The soldier who’d blocked Fu Cheng from entering quickly came forward and recounted the whole thing for Liu Hongjun.

After hearing the report, Liu Hongjun studied Fu Cheng for quite a while, then shifted his gaze to Fu Xiaoxiao.

"Uncle Liu, I’m really sorry." Fu Xiaoxiao stepped up, embarrassed; she hadn’t expected Fu Cheng to stir up such a big scene.

"You all come with me." Liu Hongjun had read Fu Xiaoxiao’s file, and he gestured for her to bring everyone to his office.

Fu Xiaoxiao led the group behind Liu Hongjun to the office. As soon as they entered, Liu Hongjun motioned for them to sit.

"All right, explain. What happened?" Liu Hongjun took his seat behind the desk, and the four of them all felt a jolt of nerves.

Lin Qiu and Lin Xue looked anxiously at Fu Xiaoxiao, at a loss for what to do.
