Chapter 2797: Chapter 2797: Mistaken Identity (2)
Ever since Meimei came back, he had always wanted to give her this gift, yet he never imagined it would happen in his absence.
Would she be surprised, stunned, or happy upon seeing the gift? He couldn’t see any of it!
Recalling her panicked expression as she rushed out, Dan Tingye’s hand tightened abruptly, completely forgetting he was still holding Youyou’s wrist.
"That hurts! You’re going to crush my bones!" Youyou narrowed her crystal-clear eyes, quickly pulling her hand back, glaring angrily at Dan Tingye who blocked her.
Not chasing after Meimei was one thing, but he blocked her way too. Now it was too late, Meimei was long gone, and she couldn’t even attempt to catch up.
"..."
Dan Tingye released her hand, looked down at her briefly, narrowed his eyes, and forced out a sentence through clenched teeth, "Repeat everything you just saw and heard to me."
-
In the spacious office, it was so quiet you could hear the sound of a needle dropping to the floor.
Dan Tingye sat at his desk with deep-set and stern features, his chiseled face exuding a captivating charm. He sat there quietly, his very presence emanating a coldness that sent chills down one’s spine.
His pitch-black eyes were slightly closed, long black lashes obstructing his view, making it impossible to discern what he was thinking.
Youyou recounted everything she saw, then retreated a little in fear, contemplating whether to seize an opportunity to make a run for it.
"Um, Dan Tingye, I suddenly remembered I have something to do, so I’ll be going now." As soon as Youyou’s words fell, without waiting for Dan Tingye’s response, she immediately turned and dashed toward the office door, forcefully pulled it open, and rushed out!
Escape!
In the silent room, only Dan Tingye was left, sitting there desolately.
Watching Youyou’s figure disappear, only her words remained in his mind.
Meimei saw his wood carving, and there wasn’t a trace of joy on her face, only panic; her complexion was ghastly pale... What was she so frightened of? What was she afraid of?
Did everything he did scare her that much?
"Bang—"
Dan Tingye clenched his fists, slammed them onto the table, and with the swing of his arm, swept all the documents onto the floor.
He abruptly stood up from the chair, his arms propped on the table, his chest heaving violently, his handsome face shrouded in darkness as if he were ready to devour someone.
Fifteen years of waiting, fifteen years of companionship—in Meimei’s eyes, was it like being entangled by a demon?
No wonder as soon as the TV station news came out, she hurried to distance herself from him; even when he went to the planning department to find her, she coldly called him "President"...
President... what a mocking title!
"Bang—"
Dan Tingye lifted his foot, fiercely kicked the corner of the desk, with such force that he tilted the whole desk.
Turning his tall figure, he strode to the bookshelf, opened the safe, and looked at the neatly arranged wood carvings inside, his youth carved piece by piece, seemingly turned into a joke in an instant.
He reached out, grabbed the outermost wood carving, raised his hand abruptly, just about to throw it away, but his fingers suddenly clenched tightly, veins protruding on the back of his hand, trying several times but couldn’t throw it out.
As long as he thought that the wood carving in his hand was Meimei, he couldn’t bear to throw it away... How could he possibly bear to discard her?
Dan Tingye’s face was shrouded in darkness, the corners of his mouth curled into a self-deprecating smile, slowly putting the carving down, held it in front of his eyes, his long fingers gently caressing the facial features of the figure, murmuring softly.
