10x Rewards: Conquering Women and Taming Beauties
Chapter 221 — Tower of Bone
The golden tower stood alone on the pale grass.
It didn’t look stable. The surface shifted in slow waves, like something underneath was moving.
Orin stopped us a short distance from the base.
"This one is different," she said. "It’s alive. The walls, floor, and ceiling will try to grow around you and pull you in. You can’t force your way through with power alone. You have to keep it from taking hold while still moving up. Vale and Sael should stay at the front. Isolde, your affinity can disrupt it. The rest of us keep the path open and watch each other’s backs. The seed at the top rewrites bone density. It will break bones while it changes them."
No one argued.
We went in.
The first chamber tried to close on us almost immediately.
The gold walls thickened and pushed inward. Vale and Sael met them with pure physical force, driving their arms and shoulders into the living stone to hold it back. The impact made deep, heavy sounds. Isolde pressed both hands against the wall and forced her coral affinity into it. The surface recoiled, opening a narrow path.
We took it.
Every level after that was a fight against being absorbed.
The walls tried to close around arms and legs. The floor rose under our feet. The ceiling dropped in sudden, heavy waves. Vale and Sael stayed ahead, taking the worst of the pressure. Isolde kept disrupting the tower’s growth whenever it got too aggressive. Thalia called out movements before they fully formed. Orin directed the group so no one got isolated.
The rest of us stayed close and fed power into a shared field, not to overpower the tower, but to keep it from locking onto any one person. When the living stone tried to take someone, the nearest people pulled them free. It was messy, physical work. There was no room for clean technique. Just constant pressure and the need to keep moving.
We climbed higher.
The air inside grew heavier. The tower’s attempts to incorporate us became more persistent. By the middle levels everyone was breathing hard and marked with bruises from the constant contact with the living walls. Still, no one was lost.
The summit chamber was smaller and quieter. The walls still shifted, but slower, as if the tower was waiting. In the center floated a heavy gold seed.
Orin spoke quietly.
"That’s the seed of Bone. It rewrites the density of the skeleton. The process is violent. Be ready."
I stepped forward and closed my hand around it.
The seed sank into my palm and went straight for the marrow.
Pain hit hard and fast.
Ribs cracked in sequence. I felt the sternum flex and split. The bones in my arms and legs burned as their structure was torn apart and rebuilt denser. I stayed on my feet through clenched teeth. Three ribs on the left side broke completely and remained broken after the rewriting finished. The rest of the skeleton settled into a heavier, harder configuration.
The descent was slower than the climb.
Every step pulled at the broken ribs. Vale supported one side. Sael took the other. The living walls still tried to close, but the completed seed seemed to reduce the tower’s aggression. We stepped back out onto the pale grass with the full group intact.
No one spoke for a while.
We moved a short distance from the tower and set up a basic camp. The blue Tower of Echoes stood further across the plain. Barriers were raised. Water and food were passed around. The white ribbon in the sky began to dim.
I sat against a pack while Thalia and Orin examined the damage. The three broken ribs were clean breaks. The new bone density was already stable, but the fractures needed time and careful energy work to close properly.
"They’ll heal," Thalia said after a long check. "But not if you keep pushing tonight."
Orin nodded.
"The seed did its work. Forced circulation now would only risk setting the breaks wrong."
Elizabeth crouched in front of me and looked at the injury with a critical eye.
"Then we don’t force anything. We rest here. Properly."
No one disagreed.
The group settled into a quieter night than the one after the Tower of Breath. Watches were set. Those who weren’t on watch slept or simply sat close enough to share warmth. Thalia and Orin took turns circulating small amounts of energy through the damaged area—controlled and limited, just enough to encourage proper healing without strain.
There was contact, but it stayed measured. Elizabeth remained nearby. Vale checked the perimeter more than once. The others kept the camp functional and calm. No one tried to turn the night into something heavier. The injury made that decision for everyone.
By the time the white ribbon brightened again, the worst of the sharp pain had dulled. The ribs were still badly damaged, but stable. The permanent increase in bone density had settled cleanly.
The Tower of Bone was finished.
The group packed up in silence and turned toward the next tower across the pale grass, moving slower than before, but still together.
