The Azure Phoenix fleet appeared at dawn on the eighth day after the alliance was sealed.

They came across the shifting sea in disciplined ranks, dark hulls and formation sails cutting through black and silver water without regard for the currents that usually turned clan ships aside. The lead vessels carried the banners of the main house. Behind them stretched enough strength to break any single independent power that still stood on the Shattered Coast.

They had not expected to meet a unified force.

Alliance ships and living platforms moved out from the Bone City in a wide crescent. Crimson Veil bone-and-glass vessels held the centre. Twin Petal living-vine craft took the eastern curve. Ashen Court grey hulls filled the west. Smaller independent contingents filled the gaps. Above them, flying constructs and storm-cutters kept the air from becoming a free road for the enemy.

I stood on the forward platform of the central Crimson Veil ship with Elizabeth at my right and Vale at my left. The rest of the core circle held positions across the nearby vessels so that no single breach could take more than a few of them at once. Lady Sable commanded the overall line from the highest tower of the city. Lian and Mei directed the Twin Petal wing. Rhea held the Ashen Court flank. Kora, Sylis, and Veyra remained close enough to the centre to support when the densest fighting arrived.

The first exchange began with formation fire.

Azure Phoenix arrays lit the morning with disciplined volleys meant to break the outer crescent and isolate the stronger ships. The alliance line answered with older, denser methods that the great clans had long stopped teaching. Floating bone shields rose and overlapped. Living-vine barriers absorbed and redirected. Grey Ashen Court plates drank the light of incoming strikes and returned it in concentrated bursts. The sea between the two forces turned chaotic with broken energy and spray.

Then the lines closed.

I released the advanced stage of the Cursed Nebula Physique across the centre of the battlefield.

The pressure that expanded outward was cleaner and heavier than anything I had used before the Heart of Reflection. Azure Phoenix disciples in the leading ships staggered. Some dropped to their knees as the weight settled on their channels. Formation arrays flickered and lost coherence. The zone around the central alliance vessels became a place where only those who had already measured themselves against the deeper stages of cursed power could move freely.

Elizabeth fought at my shoulder, her own advanced physique turning every defensive barrier into a launching point for precise counters. Vale cut through the first boarding teams that tried to cross from a crippled clan ship, her blade work faster and heavier than the copies the Mirror Expanse had once produced. Seraphina and Feng Lan worked in tandem on a nearby platform, temporal disruption opening gaps that Feng Lan filled with concentrated fire. Lydia held a secondary node of the living-bone network and kept the city's outer constructs feeding power into the main line.

The newer women moved with the same coordination.

Yara and Nyra fought as a linked pair, identical movements creating overlapping fields that shredded incoming techniques. Lian and Mei's dual physique turned an entire section of the eastern line into a killing ground that Azure Phoenix captains quickly learned to avoid. Rhea's light-drinking blade, replaced and reinforced after the earlier breakage, carved through formation armour as if it were paper. Kora folded short distances through the chaos, appearing where the line needed reinforcement and vanishing before counter-strikes could land. Sylis met a clan beast-handler's summoned creatures head-on and broke them with raw physical dominance. Veyra's precise arrays locked enemy formations in place long enough for others to finish the work.

The battle spread across open water and into the air above the Bone City.

Clan flying platforms tried to bypass the sea line and strike the towers directly. Alliance storm-cutters and bone constructs met them in the higher currents. Debris and broken bodies fell into the shifting water in a steady rain. The denser power radiating from the centre of the alliance line continued to suppress the coherence of Azure Phoenix techniques, forcing their captains to spend more strength than they could afford simply to stay in the fight.

When the clan flagship finally pushed through the broken outer ranks and came within boarding distance, I moved.

Elizabeth, Vale, Feng Lan, and Rhea came with me. We crossed the gap on a short-lived bridge of condensed power and landed on the flagship's upper deck among startled elite disciples. The Cursed Nebula Physique expanded again, turning the deck into a place where resistance became expensive. Vale cleared the immediate threats with short, brutal sequences. Elizabeth locked the ship's primary array into a feedback cycle that forced it to spend itself against its own structure. Rhea's blade took the head from the secondary commander before he could finish a large-scale technique.

Feng Lan found the man she had once called teacher near the main mast.

He was older, stronger than most of the disciples around him, and carrying the authority of someone who had helped shape her early years in Azure Phoenix. For a moment the two of them faced each other across the chaotic deck while the rest of the fight continued. Words passed between them that the wind and the noise kept private. Then Feng Lan moved. The technique she used was simple, direct, and final. It ended the exchange in a single exchange of force that left the older man on the deck and the flagship's remaining command structure broken.

With the flagship's core command removed, the rest of the Azure Phoenix line began to lose cohesion. Alliance vessels pressed the advantage. Living-bone constructs from the city itself entered the water and dragged crippled clan ships under. Storm-cutters drove the remaining flying platforms back toward the open sea. By the time the sun reached its highest point the great-clan fleet was no longer a single force. It was a collection of damaged vessels trying to disengage and survive.

Lady Sable's order carried across the water by formation and by voice.

"Let the survivors leave. They will carry the message better than corpses."

The alliance line opened deliberate gaps. The remaining Azure Phoenix ships that could still move took them. Those that could not were left to the sea and to whatever the shifting water decided to do with broken hulls. No further pursuit was ordered. The point had been made in open view of every independent power that had answered the gathering call.

When the last functional clan vessel disappeared beyond the horizon, the Bone City's towers and the alliance ships stood alone on the shifting sea. The water around them was littered with debris and the quiet evidence of how much strength the great clans had spent for nothing.

I stood on the deck of the central vessel with the core circle gathering around me as the immediate work of recovery began. Elizabeth's hand rested briefly against my back, steady and certain. Vale cleaned her blade without speaking. Feng Lan looked out toward the empty horizon where her former clan had retreated. The newer women held their positions with the same settled calm the original circle had carried through every previous fight that mattered.

The great-clan fleet had come to remind the independent zones of the old order.

It left carrying a different message.

The cursed world beyond the clans had stood in one place, under one binding centre, and had broken the first serious attempt to pull it back under the old maps. The towers of the Bone City remained upright. The alliance banners still moved in the wind. And the circle that had formed at the heart of that alliance remained unbroken.

The sea continued its slow black-and-silver shift around the city.

The next move would belong to the powers that had decided the age of unchallenged clan dominance was finished.
