Chapter 106: University Screening [3]

Amon scratched his chin. ’How am I supposed to aura farm here?’

He slowly took a few steps back from the tent and looked around the testing grounds.

Amon wanted to get a better idea of what the academy considered impressive.

Since he had never properly measured his mana against other students before.

’Let’s see what the average looks like.’

The first part of the Mana Test was Total Mana, and students were taking turns placing their hands against the large mana-measuring crystals.

Whenever someone touched one, glowing numbers appeared above the crystal and were immediately recorded by the teachers.

Most of the students had mana somewhere around twenty points.

Amon quickly realized that this was roughly what one would expect from a Level 10 student.

Some had slightly higher numbers, while others were considerably lower, but very few stood out enough to attract everyone’s attention.

Amon watched several more students before noticing someone familiar.

’Selene.’

The girl stood in front of one of the crystals with the same cold expression she had worn during the Physical Test.

When she placed her hand against the crystal, the number quickly appeared.

[Mana: 50]

Amon raised an eyebrow. ’That’s pretty high.’

Selene removed her hand without saying anything and moved toward the next part of the test.

Amon had been watching her since the Physical Test, and he had already noticed that she rarely wasted movements or words.

She didn’t seem interested in competing with anyone directly.

Amon continued watching as Selene began her Mana Control test.

The instructor explained that the students needed to disperse their mana throughout the mana-measuring crystal before gathering all of it back toward the center.

The faster they completed the process, the higher their grade would be.

Selene placed her hand against the crystal.

A faint blue light spread throughout the entire device as her mana was released.

For a moment, the crystal looked as though it had been filled with countless tiny stars.

Selene then started gathering them as every bit of it rapidly gathered toward the center.

Ten seconds later, all of Selene’s mana had returned to the middle point.

The instructor immediately recorded her result.

[Mana Control: A]

Amon nodded slightly. ’Pretty good.’

Selene then moved to the Mana Output test.

This time, she simply needed to pour as much mana as possible into the crystal.

When she placed her hand against it, the crystal began glowing intensely.

The surrounding students could even feel the mana pressure coming from it.

The instructor watched the readings carefully before finally recording the result.

[Mana Output: S]

Amon raised an eyebrow again. ’She’s definitely one of the better ones.’

The final part was the Elemental Affinity test.

The instructor activated another device and asked Selene to release a small amount of mana into it.

The crystal immediately began reacting.

Several different symbols appeared across its surface before two of them shone brightly.

The instructor stared at the readings for a few seconds before announcing the result.

[Elemental Affinity: Earth, Wind]

Amon nodded to himself. ’Two elements. Not bad.’

Selene simply stepped away from the device and joined the students waiting nearby, showing no visible reaction to her results.

Amon’s attention then shifted to another student.

Marcus Hale.

The calm-looking commoner had performed remarkably well throughout the entire Mana Test.

His total mana wasn’t as impressive as Selene’s, but his control was extremely precise.

By the time his results were recorded, he had received an A grade in every category.

Amon watched him walk away. ’So those are probably the people I should pay attention to.’

He glanced around the testing grounds again.

There were plenty of talented students here, but most of them were simply trying to get through the test without embarrassing themselves.

Amon drew in a deep breath. ’Whatever. I’ll just go with the flow.’

He walked toward the nearest testing crystal.

An instructor was waiting beside it with a tablet in her hands.

"Place your hand on the crystal and keep it there until I tell you to remove it."

Amon nodded and placed his palm against the smooth surface.

The crystal immediately lit up, and a large number appeared above it.

[Mana: 96]

The instructor looked at the numbers before she stared at Amon.

She looked back at the number as if hoping it would change.

The instructor slowly turned toward him. "Aren’t you the student who got first rank in the Physical Test?"

Amon nodded. "Yeah."

The woman looked at the crystal again.

Amon waited for a few seconds before asking, "So, what grade did I get?"

The instructor opened her mouth, but no answer came out. She finally shook her head. "I need to consult with my senior."

She immediately walked away with her tablet.

Amon remained where he was, completely calm while the nearby students began whispering among themselves.

"Did you see that number?"

"Was that ninety-six?"

Amon remained calm without showing much emotion.

A few minutes later, the instructor returned, though she wasn’t alone.

An older woman wearing glasses walked beside her, her grey hair tied neatly behind her head.

The older woman approached the crystal and examined the result carefully.

She adjusted her glasses before looking directly at Amon. "Exponential mana."

The older woman looked at the readings again. "Is there a specific reason for your mana being this high?"

Amon thought for a moment before giving the excuse he had already prepared. "I have a disease that stores mana inside my body."

The older woman slowly looked him up and down.

Her eyes lingered on his considerably slimmer body for a moment before she quietly muttered, "Those are usually fat people."

Amon couldn’t help chuckling, though he refrained from commenting.

The older woman adjusted her glasses again before turning toward the instructor.

"Give him an SSS."

The instructor immediately recorded the result.

[Total Mana: SSS]

The older woman then took a step back. "I’ll supervise the rest of his test."

The instructor nodded and prepared the next test.

"Please place your hand on the crystal again. You need to disperse your mana throughout the device and then gather it back toward the center."

Amon nodded. ’Easy enough.’

He released his mana.

The crystal immediately filled with a powerful blue glow as his mana dispersed throughout the entire device.

The instructor watched carefully.

Amon then gathered his mana back toward the center.

The scattered energy moved almost instantly, and within moments, everything had returned to the middle.

The instructor’s eyes widened, and even the older woman raised her eyebrows.

Neither of them seemed to have expected him to complete the test so quickly.

The older woman stared at the crystal for several seconds before calmly saying, "SSS again."

The instructor recorded it.

[Mana Control: SSS]

Amon looked at the crystal. ’I’m doing pretty well so far.’

The instructor then prepared the next test.

"Now you need to pour your mana into the crystal for the Mana Output test."

Amon placed his hand against it.

The older woman immediately stopped him. "Don’t."

Amon paused and looked at her.

The woman pointed toward the crystal. "If you pour all of that mana into this device, you’ll probably break the mana crystal."

Amon slowly lowered his hand. ’There goes my chance to aura farm.’

He had been hoping to make the crystal explode or at least produce some ridiculous result that everyone would remember.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t interested in paying for academy equipment.

The instructor quickly moved to the final test. "Then we’ll check your Elemental Affinity."

Amon placed his hand against the testing device.

The crystal began glowing, and almost instantly, it glowed up all at once.

The instructor’s expression slowly turned blank as she went completely silent.

The older woman frowned.

"What happened?" She asked. "Is the item broken?"

The instructor didn’t answer immediately.

She stared at the crystal as more symbols continued appearing across its surface.

Finally, she swallowed. "...He has all the affinities."

The older woman blinked her eyes in disbelief.
