Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Inflicting Depression Gives me Points

Chapter 97: I Summon These Three Trash Mobs!

  • Next Chapter

"Ojama Yellow combined with Ojama Pajama's effect... that's genuinely brutal."

Jaden and Syrus were both wiping cold sweat from their faces.

If Rowan had been holding two copies of Ojama Pajama in his hand, Chazz would have been pelted to death by mechanical red underwear in the most humiliating fashion imaginable.

The moment that mental image formed, Jaden, Bastion, and the others felt another wave of cold sweat run down their spines.

Playing cards against Rowan felt like a personal attack on one's dignity.

Even Chancellor Sheppard and Professor Crowler weren't doing much better in the expression department.

In that moment, Chancellor Sheppard found himself genuinely worried. This duel was being broadcast live on television. If viewers across the dueling world got the impression that Duel Academy's style of play looked anything like this...

The chancellor's entire spirit seemed to wilt.

Duel Academy's reputation might be taking damage on a global scale.

...

"Even after two rounds of cheap tricks, all you've accomplished is a desperate struggle, Rowan!"

Chazz's face was the color of the bottom of a burnt pan as he forced the words out through clenched teeth.

"I still have Armed Dragon LV7 on my field, more than capable of wiping out any monster defense you build. And my Continuous Trap, Royal Decree, is still locking down every face-down card you have. You've shaved off 3000 of my LP, but this last 1000 will be a wall you simply cannot cross."

That was the foundation of Chazz's confidence, even after eating two rounds of exploding underwear to the face.

His monsters and traps had never stopped working. The field advantage was still overwhelmingly his.

Hearing this, Alexis, Zane, and the others in the stands came to the same realization almost immediately.

He was right.

On paper, Chazz still held an absolute advantage. Rowan's field, after two suicide waves from the Ojama Tokens, had been reduced to two face-down cards set during his first turn, cards that Royal Decree had rendered completely useless.

So what was Rowan going to do now?

Everyone in the stands fixed their eyes on him.

One look at his expression told them everything.

He had an answer.

"Chazz, you said something incorrect just now. There is no Armed Dragon LV7 on your field. And there is no Continuous Trap Royal Decree either."

Rowan said it calmly, with a slight shake of his head.

"What are you talking about?! They're right there!" Chazz let out a baffled laugh.

"Watch closely. Don't blink." Rowan held up a hand. "I haven't conducted my Normal Summon this turn yet. So after the Battle Phase, here in Main Phase 2, I still have the option to summon."

He reached into his six-card hand, drew one out, and placed it onto his Duel Disk.

"Ojama Red, in Attack Position!"

"Ojama!"

A flash of light burst from the field, and a small red creature with an onion-shaped head and a pair of tiny red underwear popped into existence on Rowan's side, settling into a wide stance.

[Ojama Red: Level 2 / Attribute: Light / ATK: 0 / DEF: 1000]

"Ojama Red's special effect: when this card is Normal Summoned, I can Special Summon up to four monsters with 'Ojama' in their names from my hand, in Attack Position."

"I only have three in hand right now, so all three get Special Summoned."

Rowan fanned the cards out and placed them on his Duel Disk without ceremony.

Three flashes of light in quick succession.

A red-underwear-clad yellow creature with a smug swagger. A green one with a tongue that seemed slightly too long. A black one with an impressively oversized nose.

All three materialized on his field in Attack Position.

[Ojama Yellow / Ojama Green / Ojama Black: Level 2 / Attribute: Light / ATK: 0 / DEF: 1000]

"Hey hey, that's rude, big bro. Calling us trash monsters to our faces."

The Ojama Yellow spirit had barely appeared before it was already swaying its hips and turning toward Rowan with a wounded expression.

"That's right, that's right! We three brothers are 'trash monsters with a little bit of use,' thank you very much!" The Ojama Green spirit, tongue lolling, chimed in with visible indignation.

"We humbly request a correction. That is our one and only wish," the Ojama Black spirit added from the side, nose wiggling earnestly.

"You lot really have standards, don't you..." Rowan's mouth twitched. He didn't have the energy to argue.

All three of them had awakened the moment they were played. Which made sense. Their ATK was even lower than Winged Kuriboh's, their level roughly the same. Exactly the type of monster most likely to awaken a dueling spirit.

Ojama Red, by contrast, seemed to be doing nothing. Probably just bad luck.

...

"Chazz, look! The guy across from us really does have one of me! And my brothers too!"

Over on Chazz's side of the field, the familiar smug silhouette of an Ojama Yellow spirit shimmered back into view and started doing its characteristic hip-wiggle in Chazz's direction.

"Adding a few more trash monsters changes nothing!" Chazz's temple vein was twitching again as he raised a hand to dismiss the spirit, or at least make it stop gyrating at him.

He had noticed that Rowan's three Ojama brothers seemed different from normal cards. They had clearly awakened spirits of their own and appeared to be speaking. But none of that had any bearing on who was going to win this duel.

Or so he thought.

Because a moment later, his own Ojama Yellow spirit turned toward him with an urgent, worried expression and said:

"Dummy Chazz, this is bad! If all the Ojama brothers are gathered on the field at once, there's a power that can destroy every single card Chazz has!"

"What?!"

"That's right, Chazz. Now witness what these three 'trash monsters with a little bit of use' can actually do."

Rowan had naturally caught every word of the exchange between Chazz and the Ojama Yellow spirit. He smiled, drew one card from the two remaining in his hand, and activated it without hesitation.

"Spell Card: Ojama Delta Hurricane!!"
