Chapter 117: That Woman Wants to Attack Boss!

"Rowan's body really doesn't seem to have a single injury on it..."

Before long, Nurse Fontaine, with her voluminous hair, took up a stethoscope and examined him as he lay on the clean white bed, arriving at that conclusion with visible surprise.

"Still, just to be safe, why don't you stay here in the infirmary and rest a while longer."

"The environment here isn't bad, after all, and there's nothing on the schedule today, so you can sleep easy."

Nurse Fontaine said, glancing over at Alexis in the chair by the other bed and including her in the suggestion.

"Guess I'll have to trouble you then, Nurse Fontaine." Rowan sighed, resigned, but didn't push back any further. Resting here wasn't so bad, after all. The thin blankets and bedding on the infirmary beds seemed to be sterilized and washed fresh every single day, which was exactly why Nurse Fontaine so often roped Alexis's two close friends into helping out. After all, when classes were in session, she genuinely couldn't manage everything on her own.

"Well then, I'll leave you two to rest. If anything feels off, just call for me anytime."

Nurse Fontaine said with a smile, rising to her feet, then stepped out of the infirmary for the moment to attend to her own business nearby. Seeing this, Jaden, Kaiser Zane, and the others filed out as well, heading back to their own dorms to sleep. None of them had slept well the night before either. Never mind Jaden and his hotblooded fellow idiots, who'd spent the whole night as hostages, hearts in their throats above a lake of lava at the volcano's mouth. Kaiser Zane, Bastion, and Chazz hadn't slept a wink either, chasing the vibrations of their Spirit Keys through the night, searching for wherever the Shadow Duel was taking place.

In just a short while, the whole infirmary, aside from the unconscious Atticus hooked up to a respirator, held only two people. Alexis, keeping watch from her chair, and Rowan, lying on a bed of his own not far away.

"Guess I'll get some sleep too."

Rowan yawned again, gave Alexis a casual little wave, then pulled the blanket up and drifted off, heavy with sleep. In no time at all, he'd sunk into a deep, thoroughly satisfying sleep.

"Pfft. This guy..."

Watching him fall asleep within a minute or two, Alexis let out a small laugh despite herself, murmuring to no one in particular.

"And here he was calling other people carefree. He's plenty carefree himself."

After a Shadow Duel that tense, and he could fall asleep this easily. Not the faintest trace of stress on him at all.

Alexis thought to herself. As for her, having just felt firsthand how terrifying a Shadow Duel really was, and having found her long-missing brother on top of it, after so many major things happening back-to-back, she couldn't feel the least bit sleepy right now.

Still, she felt real, genuine gratitude toward Rowan for saving her brother, and it softened both her expression and the look in her eyes whenever she glanced over at him.

After watching him sleep for a while, Alexis, still sitting in her chair, suddenly rose to her feet, blushing faintly, glancing first at the infirmary door and then over at her brother. Once she'd confirmed there was no one else around, she walked over to Rowan's bedside with slightly stiff, self-conscious steps, murmuring to herself under her breath, blushing the whole time.

"I'll just call this a thank you for him saving my brother. And a little compensation for not getting anything after that win against North Academy."

"Besides, no one's going to see this anyway."

What Alexis had absolutely no idea of was that three little spirits, yellow, green, and black, thoroughly mischievous-looking, had appeared floating right at the edge of the blanket on the far side of the bed. They'd been watching her every move since about the second half of that sentence, muttering among themselves.

"Hey hey, Green, Black, what's this lady doing standing here mumbling to herself in front of Boss? We saw the whole thing, didn't we?"

Ojama Yellow said, nudging Ojama Green and Ojama Black beside him, thoroughly confused.

"People who can't see spirits can't see us, obviously."

Ojama Green corrected his little brother at once, then started speculating. "Still, the way she's been standing there hesitating so weirdly, you don't think she's planning some kind of sneak attack on Boss, do you?"

"I think it's pretty likely. We've got to warn Boss to watch out for this lady afterward." Ojama Black nodded, wearing a thoughtful, calculating expression.

"But Boss might not believe us if we're the ones telling him. Guess we'd better wait and let the round Kuriboh boss handle the warning once he wakes up."

The three Ojama brothers huddled together, muttering away as they kept watching Alexis. Before long, they saw the blonde woman, who they'd decided not to underestimate, finally make her move. As if she'd suddenly steeled herself, she leaned in close to Boss's face, blushing, and launched her "attack"!

"Ehh...?!" The three Ojama brothers froze, staring in blank disbelief.

That strange woman seemed to have just delivered some completely harmless little "attack," and then spun around with stiff, hurried steps and hustled straight back to her chair on the other side.

Could that have been poison, applied just now?

"Is there any chance that woman just... kissed Boss?"

After carefully checking Rowan's face for any sign of poison-induced blackening, big-nosed little Ojama Black fell silent for a moment before voicing his doubt.

"Uhh... so, do we still need to warn Boss or not?" Ojama Yellow said, looking equally dazed.

"I still think we should just tell Boss everything we guessed and everything we saw, once he's up."

Big-tongued Ojama Green concluded, making the final call.

Meanwhile, completely unaware of any of this, Alexis had sat back down in her chair, taking deep breaths to steady her racing emotions, quietly reassuring herself in her own head.

No one saw that!

There's no way Rowan will ever find out anyway!
