Chapter 151: Female Alpha, Male Omega?
Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Female Alpha, Male Omega?
"I’m not a woman, and I’m not after your body. You don’t have to stay chaste for Lynn in front of me. Hurry up and change!"
Ian Sterling tried to calm his heaving chest, fuming. He gritted his teeth. "Fine. Just you wait."
He couldn’t be bothered to be reserved in front of his brother and changed his clothes as quickly as possible.
Lynn Winslow stood by the window, watching the two brothers leave. Her eyes met with Sophia Shaw’s, who was sitting on the bed with a gentle smile.
"He’s picking on Finn now, but who knows how Finn will get him back later." Sophia Shaw shook her head. "Finn isn’t one to be easily bullied."
Lynn chuckled at her words and sat down across from Sophia Shaw. The two began to discuss a birthday gift for Nina Norton.
She had only found out today that Nina’s birthday was in a month. Lynn wanted to commission a custom set of bags for her, one designed for each of the twenty-four solar terms.
Sophia was a little stunned after hearing this, surprised that Lynn was putting so much thought into it.
Lynn looked down at her phone, her fingers tapping the screen as she continued discussing the bag designs with a world-renowned designer from Morelia.
When Sophia went back to her room for a nap, she had no idea that besides preparing a gift for Nina, Lynn had also asked the designer to create gifts for Ian Sterling’s two older sisters, Sophia herself, and Ian’s aunt.
By the time she finished her chat, nearly two hours had passed without her realizing it.
Lynn stretched, walked out onto the balcony, and glanced down, just in time to see the ladies leaving together.
She thought about it but decided not to go downstairs and disturb them. Nina must have been exhausted from entertaining everyone, and if she went down, it would only get in the way of Nina’s rest.
She couldn’t really sleep when Ian wasn’t around, but she’d been taking afternoon naps for so long that her body was used to it. Overcome with drowsiness, she lay down and scrolled through her phone, hoping to feel sleepy. That was when she noticed Ian had sent her a message while she’d been engrossed in her design discussion.
It was a pouting emoji.
Lynn sent him a head-patting sticker in reply. The moment he received it, Ian Sterling called her.
"You’re so heartless, just pushing me off on my brother like that."
’He’s talking nonsense again. What does he mean, pushing him off on his brother?’
Ian huffed, his attempt at pouting a little too obvious. Lynn couldn’t help but laugh. If Ian were in front of her right now, she would definitely give him a good kiss.
To soothe his childish heart, Lynn coaxed him in a soft voice, "How about I pick you up from work tonight? And you can give me a tour of your company."
Ian was in his office at that moment, rocking back and forth in his chair. He glanced at the time on his computer screen.
When Elias Sterling had dropped him off at the company, he’d ordered Ian to stay until six in the evening. It wasn’t even three yet. Ian heaved a deep sigh.
"Okay, come get me at five."
He was like a kindergartener who, after a long day at school, hears his parents are coming to pick him up. He’d been looking forward to it ever since he arrived.
Though Ian had become incredibly lazy, he knew he had to be professional when he was at the company.
Secretaries filed into his office one after another, arms full of documents for him to sign. Calls also flooded in from the heads of partner companies. Since they had finally caught their boss, they were afraid he’d disappear again after today. The secretarial department was trying to cram a year’s worth of work into a single afternoon.
At first, Ian signed documents and reviewed files and emails as usual. But he soon discovered that new emails were flooding his screen, and the files in front of him had piled up into a mountain.
When Secretary Evan Carson walked in, his eyes met Ian Sterling’s cold, stony face.
Evan quickly averted his gaze. ’From Mr. Sterling’s attitude, he probably already knows the secretarial department did this on purpose.’
Ian didn’t say a word, but Evan was already explaining in a low voice, "Mr. Sterling, it was your brother who told us to do this."
’I knew it!’ Ian was so angry he laughed.
He grabbed his phone and sent a message to Elias Sterling: [How childish can you be.]
Elias replied breezily: [So disrespectful. Be careful, or I’ll tattle to Dad.]
Ian sent back a smiling emoji, then locked his phone and tossed it onto the desk. He stared at Evan for a few moments.
Why would Evan listen to Elias? Because while Ian had been slacking off, Elias would occasionally come to the company to handle certain documents that no one else was authorized to touch.
There was nothing he could do. Ian couldn’t just tell the secretaries to take all the pending documents away. Resigning himself to his fate, he sighed, picked up his pen, and started signing.
This only strengthened his resolve to merge the company into his family’s corporate group.
Once he got busy, time flew by, and it was almost five o’clock.
Lynn didn’t ask the chauffeur to drive her. ’If the chauffeur drove, how could it count as her picking Ian up?’
As she neared the company, Lynn was waiting at a red light when she caught sight of the flower shop behind her where she had bought red roses before.
She had ended up tossing that bouquet on a bench, and she never knew what happened to it afterward. Lynn pursed her lips, made a U-turn, and went back to the shop to buy another bouquet of red roses.
’If Ian pulls any more of his usual nonsense this time,’ she thought, ’I’m never buying him flowers again for the rest of my life.’
Because she had to wait for the owner to wrap the flowers, it was already five-thirty by the time she arrived at Ian’s company.
Lynn got out of the car. The moment she stepped through the company’s main entrance, she saw Ian Sterling sitting in the lobby’s lounge area.
Ian was about to complain about her being late, but the words died in his throat when he saw the red roses in Lynn’s arms.
"How did you..." He stared, his lips parted. Lynn smiled, pursing her own lips as she handed the flowers to him. She asked softly, "Baby, do you like them? I’m giving you the flowers I couldn’t give you last time."
Ian took them, his mind flashing back to the bouquet Lynn had thrown on the bench. He had taken it back to his office, where he had cared for it meticulously until the red roses finally had to be removed nearly a month later.
"Do you like them?"
He kept his head down and didn’t answer, so Lynn simply leaned in and peeked at his face.
Seeing that Ian’s eyes were a little red, Lynn felt a pang in her heart.
"I’m not even upset about it, so why are you acting all hurt?" Lynn stood on her tiptoes to pat his head, her touch soft and gentle. "No more feeling sorry for yourself," she comforted him quietly.
Ian let out a breath, denying it stiffly. "I’m not."
He looked down at the red roses. He didn’t actually like things like this, but because they were from Lynn, they were exceptionally precious in his eyes.
The two of them got into the elevator together. Only after the doors closed did the two receptionists and the security guard standing in the lobby finally let out the laughs they had been holding in.
"That’s the first time I’ve ever seen the boss’s cute side."
"Yeah, and his girlfriend seems to dote on him so much. Do you think they’re like one of those ’female Alpha, male Omega’ couples from online fiction?"
The two receptionists, both avid internet users, glanced at each other and burst out laughing again.
As for the whole "female Alpha, male Omega" thing, Ian Sterling was completely unaware. He held Lynn’s hand and strode into his office, too preoccupied to even give her a proper tour.
