Chapter 148: Chapter 148: This Baby Is a Little Sad

Truthfully, Caroline Whitman had thought about this before.

In fact, she’d been wondering about it herself.

Without Ryan Grant, how would their two parallel lines ever have intersected?

Now it seemed she wasn’t the only one with this question; Adrian Grant had considered the hypothetical as well.

It was just that this guy seemed to have a much more active imagination than her.

No, it was more like he was just a sweet-talker.

Adrian Grant: "Intuition."

’See? When a man wants to charm you, his words can be sickeningly sweet.’

’Intuition, my foot. How come she didn’t have that kind of intuition?’

Caroline Whitman: "Oh."

"You don’t believe me?" Adrian Grant pressed his face close to hers, his eyes shifting to give her a light, sidelong glance.

Caroline Whitman felt his "loving" gaze in her peripheral vision, pursed her lips, and wisely conceded, "...I believe you."

Unexpectedly, the man wouldn’t let her off the hook. She heard his faintly melancholic voice, "I thought you would have the same intuition as me."

Caroline Whitman withdrew her peripheral gaze, glanced upward, then turned to shoot him a look.

’Strange.’

’Why did that sound so calculatingly innocent?’

’Do villains play the innocent card, too?’

On this point, Caroline Whitman decided she couldn’t lose ground, but Adrian Grant didn’t seem to give her a chance to retort.

He quickly changed the subject. "This afternoon, Ryan told me he wants to go back and live at The Seraphic."

"..."

Caroline Whitman fell silent.

She suddenly understood why Ryan Grant’s train of thought often jumped around.

But she couldn’t rule out the possibility that Adrian Grant was deliberately changing the subject.

Adrian Grant relayed Ryan Grant’s thoughts to her, adding, "If we move back to The Seraphic, I’ll have Miss King and a few maids from the old manor come over. That way, Ryan won’t have to run back and forth to the old manor during the day."

"Of course, if you don’t want to go back to The Seraphic, we can pick a new house."

Caroline Whitman glanced at him. "Are you thinking of renting a new villa or buying one?"

Adrian Grant: "It’s all up to you."

Caroline Whitman: "Let’s not make it so complicated. We’ll just move back to The Seraphic."

In ancient times, Mencius’s mother moved three times for her son’s sake. Now, the two of them were moving from house to house for their child like they were fighting a guerilla war.

Now that Adrian Grant no longer needed to hide the child from Jonathan Grant, there was no need to keep finding new places to hide out.

Since the child was the one who suggested it, Caroline Whitman naturally had no objections.

After all, it wasn’t as if she had never lived with Adrian Grant before, nor had she never stayed at The Seraphic.

It was just a matter of changing locations again to let their child have fun in his free time.

She just never expected that little brat Ryan Grant to be so whimsical.

The next day, as they were packing to move back to The Seraphic, Ryan Grant suddenly announced he wanted to go back to her place at Azure Heights for a while.

In the little guy’s eyes, he had neglected this home for a long time.

Besides, from what he could remember, his daddy hadn’t stayed at his mommy’s house at all in the past few months.

A firm believer in fairness, he absolutely could not let such a thing happen.

And he hadn’t even stayed in the new room his mommy had decorated for him yet.

Caroline Whitman, holding a suitcase, stood in the living room and looked down at Tiny in front of her. "So, is it Azure Heights or The Seraphic? You get one choice."

The little guy tilted his head back. His cold hadn’t cleared up yet, and he spoke in a soft, nasal voice, "I want to go back to Azure Heights for a few days first, and then go back to The Seraphic for a few days. Is that okay, Mommy?"

Adrian Grant wasn’t an unreasonable person, but this child changed his mind way too fast. Yesterday he’d been so sure, and today he’d suddenly backtracked.

It made him feel like a clown for what he had relayed to Caroline Whitman last night.

He stood beside Caroline Whitman, presenting a united front with her. "Why the sudden desire to go back to Azure Heights? Give us a reason."

Ryan Grant turned his head to look at Adrian Grant, blinking his phoenix eyes—so similar to his father’s—with a sincere expression.

"I haven’t been back to Azure Heights in so long, and I haven’t slept in my new room there even once. Besides, I haven’t seen Daddy stay at Mommy’s house in a long time either."

Adrian Grant only hesitated for a moment before immediately siding with his son.

He looked up, his expression serious. "I think we should consider Ryan’s feelings."

Caroline Whitman: "..."

’Since the day this child appeared in their lives, when have they not considered his feelings?’

’Weren’t they always taking his delicate little heart into consideration?’

She shot Adrian Grant a cool glance. His intentions were as plain as day.

’I bet you want to live at my place more than the kid does, don’t you?’

"Is it okay? Mommy, if you don’t want to, I’ll be a little sad, but I’ll still be considerate of your feelings."

Ryan Grant once again deployed his ultimate wheedling technique.

It might not work on his dad, but it was super effective on his mom.

"..."

Damn!

’Just last night, she’d thought Adrian Grant had a talent for playing innocent, and now it seemed the little one was showing signs of it, too.’

’So, this kid had inherited the best traits from both of them, huh?’

But even though the kid was showing signs of being a little manipulator, Caroline Whitman just couldn’t bring herself to refuse when he was tugging on her hand with his chubby little one, swaying back and forth and acting cute.

Caroline Whitman’s lips moved. "Fine! We’ll do it your way this once. But Ryan Grant, I’m starting to think we spoil you too much. Next time you ask for something, we’re going to have to think it over very carefully."

Ryan Grant immediately stood at attention, acting like a perfect little angel. "Yes! Mommy, I’ll be on my best behavior and won’t make any more random requests!"

"..."

"..."

By now, the two adults were somewhat immune to his "perfect little angel" act.

Still, Adrian Grant took a long, deep look at his son. The little guy’s recent display of wheedling and flattery had genuinely impressed him.

’He wondered where the boy had picked up such manipulative sweet talk.’

In the end, however, the father and son got their wish and moved into Azure Heights.

The child still had a bit of a cold today, and seeing as he really didn’t want to go back to the old manor, Caroline Whitman once again used her authority at work to take a day off to be with him.

It was a good thing she didn’t have any busy projects during this period.

She was, however, quite surprised that Adrian Grant could also take a day off to be with their son.

But she didn’t ask any extra questions about his work situation.

It was just that... watching the scene of Adrian Grant skillfully arranging his toiletries and clothes in her closet, with Tiny helping him out beside him, Caroline Whitman fell silent for a moment.

’She really suspected that Adrian Grant and the little guy had conspired together this morning.’

After they finished putting their things away, Ryan Grant came bouncing over and threw himself into her arms. Caroline Whitman stroked his head and said leisurely,

"You know, I don’t have a slide here, or a garden, or mud, or a swimming pool for you to play in."

Unexpectedly, Ryan Grant’s eyes curved into a smile as he said softly, "As long as I can be with Daddy and Mommy, I don’t need those things."

Caroline Whitman considered herself immune to the sweet talk of a three-and-a-half, almost four-year-old, but every time she heard him say things like that, as someone who had unexpectedly become a mother, her heart couldn’t help but soften.
