Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 531: Is Ivy Sherwood a Murderer?

  • Next Chapter

"No, this has to be fake. Our baby is so strong, and I can feel him. He’s right here in my belly. He can’t be gone."

Ivy Sherwood could feel the baby’s presence. How could he just be gone?

Quentin Blackwood: "..."

He finally understood what Ivy meant. She had clearly misunderstood, thinking the baby was gone.

"Don’t worry, the baby is fine. He’s being very good, still nestled safely in his mommy’s belly. Nothing’s wrong at all."

"Then who were you talking about?" Teardrops still clung to Ivy Sherwood’s eyelashes. Waking up to a conversation like that had truly terrified her.

She thought something had happened to the baby—that the baby was gone.

’If it’s not the baby, then who is it?’

"It’s no one. Just lie down and get some rest. Are you uncomfortable anywhere else?"

Quentin Blackwood hadn’t planned on telling Ivy. He was afraid that if she knew, she would only feel more anxious.

"That’s impossible. Something’s definitely wrong. I heard you just now. Tell me, who died? What about Nina? And my brother?"

Ivy didn’t dare to imagine the possibilities. What if something happened to Nina, or to Miles Mercer? Or what if... what if it was her grandfather...

"They’re all fine," Quentin said. "Lie down first. I’ll have the doctor check on you again."

With that, Quentin prepared to leave.

Ivy grabbed his arm directly with her bandaged hand. The movement seemed to make blood seep out again, staining the gauze—a shocking sight.

"Don’t move. Did the wound reopen?" Quentin anxiously cupped Ivy’s wrist.

He’d be upset for ages if she even got a scrape, let alone a gash that long.

"First, tell me who died!"

Quentin sighed. "It’s Charlie Rhodes."

Ivy’s pupils contracted. "What? Charlie Rhodes is dead?"

’Does that mean... I killed him?’

Quentin really hadn’t wanted to tell Ivy. The matter wasn’t fully investigated yet, and he was afraid of placing a psychological burden on her.

The doctor had just come by to say that Charlie Rhodes was gone for good; he couldn’t be revived.

And the fatal wound was likely the one Ivy had inflicted.

"This still needs to be investigated, so don’t overthink it. Even if he’s dead, it was self-defense. There were many witnesses. You’ll be fine."

But Ivy couldn’t shake the news of Charlie Rhodes’s death. She couldn’t accept becoming a murderer. Even if a scumbag like him didn’t deserve to live, she now had a life on her hands.

Seeing Ivy’s expression, Quentin was filled with self-reproach. He’d originally thought he would only be gone for a few days, and he had rushed back as fast as he could. He had arranged for so many people to be by her side, with Miles Mercer there too. He was sure there wouldn’t be any problems.

He never expected them to find an opening and get a chance to harm Ivy.

If Charlie Rhodes hadn’t died this time, by Quentin’s methods, he wouldn’t have lived for more than a few days anyway.

It was an act of mercy that he hadn’t finished off Charlie Rhodes last time. He thought the man wouldn’t dare try anything again, but instead, he’d doubled down.

’But since when did Charlie Rhodes have so much influence in Lustre? He managed to mobilize so many people. It seems like this was premeditated for a long time.’

"Ivy, I’m sorry." Quentin apologized as he unwrapped the bandage on her palm.

Ivy looked at him. "Why are you apologizing?"

This had nothing to do with Quentin. She was the one who went there for her mother’s belongings. The fact that Quentin had rushed back at all was a wonderful surprise.

She remembered that just before she passed out, she seemed to hear someone call her name and lunge toward her. That must have been Quentin.

"Weren’t you on a business trip? How did you get back so fast? Do you have super-speed or something?" Ivy was still in the mood to joke at a time like this.

Her gaze fell on Quentin’s face. He had dark circles under his eyes and looked utterly exhausted. He probably hadn’t rested well these past few days.

Quentin was supposed to be on a business trip for about a week, but it had only been five days. He must have crammed all his work together and rushed back.

’Now that I think about it, when I called him, his phone was off. He must have been on the plane.’

"I came back too late."

Quentin finished unwrapping the bandage and looked at the wound on Ivy’s hand, which was bleeding again. "Let me dress this for you. Try to bear with it."

Ivy nodded. The cut was rather deep. At the time, she hadn’t been able to worry about that, focused only on staying conscious.

"What about Ruby Sterling? How is she? I think she still has some of my mother’s belongings. I need to get them back."

After all that had happened, it would be a huge loss if she couldn’t even get her mother’s things.

"Ruby Sterling has been arrested for assault and is at the police station now."

Quentin didn’t have time to deal with people like Ruby Sterling right now, but she definitely wasn’t getting away.

’A person like that doesn’t deserve to live. She might as well go join Charlie Rhodes.’

Killing intent filled Quentin’s eyes. Ruby Sterling should have thought about the price she’d have to pay before she dared to touch his woman!

"I’ll have someone get our mom’s things back," Quentin said as he treated Ivy’s wound.

The words "our mom" successfully made Ivy chuckle, and her mood lifted a little.

Quentin was extremely careful, terrified of hurting Ivy, but how could a wound that deep not be painful?

"Did Charlie Rhodes and Ruby Sterling injure you?"

Ivy said, "I cut myself. I was afraid I’d pass out from the drug."

"How could you be so foolish?" ’Why cut yourself? Wouldn’t it have been better to just stab Charlie Rhodes a couple more times?’

"Are my brother and Nina Scott okay?"

Ivy had just woken up and saw it was dark outside. ’It must still be nighttime.’

"They’re fine. The drug in Nina Scott’s system is the same kind the others were given. It was probably Charlie Rhodes’s doing, meant to hold up Miles Mercer. Miles followed them to the Sherwood Family estate and came with me to bring you to the hospital. Once your check-up showed you were okay, I had him go watch over Nina."

Nina Scott had a higher dose of the drug, so she hasn’t woken up yet. You held your breath at the time, so you’re better off.

Hearing that Nina Scott was okay, Ivy also breathed a sigh of relief.

"But about Charlie Rhodes..." Ivy was still thinking about how she had killed him. She remembered that when she was going downstairs, Charlie Rhodes had seemed to chase after her. He wasn’t dead then.

"Don’t worry, the police will investigate. They’ve notified the Rhodes Family, and they’ll be here soon. I’m here. Leave all of this to me."

Ivy nodded. She felt mentally and physically exhausted.

"I’m a little tired." ’I wonder if it’s because the drug hasn’t worn off completely.’

"Go to sleep. I’ll watch over you," Quentin said, his voice low.

"You probably haven’t rested in a long time, have you?" Ivy scooted over on the bed and said, "Lie down here. Let’s sleep together."
