Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 515: Attempting to Harm Ivy Sherwood

  • Next Chapter

Ivy Sherwood knew Jason Summers wanted to see her, but with Quentin Blackwood around, getting close wasn’t going to be easy.

Jason Summers might have put on a show of being a deeply affectionate and wonderful father, but Ivy Sherwood wasn’t buying it.

Ivy didn’t know what to feel about Jason Summers. Perhaps it was resentment. After all, he had only just appeared after so many years. And if it weren’t for him, her mother might never have run off so far away by herself.

Besides, she felt there had to be more to the story. Her mother wasn’t the kind of person who would abandon her own father and family over a simple argument.

The next day, Ivy Sherwood saw Jason Summers again, standing just a short distance away.

After a moment’s thought, Ivy Sherwood walked over to him. "Stop following me. I don’t want to see you."

Jason Summers looked hurt. "Ivy, I... Dad just wants to see you more."

Ivy Sherwood stated bluntly, "But I don’t want to see you. You’re bothering me. I’m sorry."

"Mr. Summers, didn’t you hear Ivy say she doesn’t want to see you? I don’t want you showing up in front of her again, either." Quentin Blackwood was there, too.

Quentin Blackwood couldn’t care less about Jason Summers’s status. High position? So what? Rich? Who cares? Ivy’s father? It made no difference to him.

"Ivy, I don’t mean any harm," Jason Summers said, still looking at her with that same wounded expression.

He deliberately lowered his gaze and let out a heavy sigh. "If you don’t want to see me, then I’ll stay away. I’ll respect your wishes."

Jason Summers left, looking forlorn. As Ivy Sherwood watched him walk away, she felt no sympathy. Instead, for some reason, she felt a flicker of hatred.

’If he was going to act like this now, why did he have to betray her mother back then?’

Once Jason Summers got back to his car, his expression twisted into a completely different mask.

He hadn’t driven far before he noticed another car parked in the distance.

From a distance, Charlie Rhodes was craning his neck out of his car window, his eyes glued to Ivy Sherwood.

His eyes gleamed with excitement. ’She’s just too beautiful,’ he thought. He was utterly obsessed.

For the past few days, he had dreamt of nothing but Ivy Sherwood.

The more unattainable she was, the more he craved her.

He knew Quentin Blackwood was a tough customer and no match for him, so Charlie Rhodes hadn’t dared to make a move.

But not daring to act didn’t mean he stopped lusting after her. Every time he saw Ivy Sherwood, he’d get all worked up again.

Charlie Rhodes was practically drooling. His attention was so fixed on Ivy Sherwood that he didn’t notice the other car pulling up beside him.

Jason Summers’s car drove past, pulling up right next to Charlie’s. He had rolled up his tinted windows, making it impossible to see inside without looking closely.

Jason Summers could hear Charlie Rhodes on the phone with Ruby Sterling, urging her to hurry up. He was getting impatient.

Ruby Sterling sounded stressed. "That Quentin Blackwood is always hovering around Ivy Sherwood. I have no opportunity! I want to call her back here, but I can’t find an excuse. She’s very wary of me now. Making a move won’t be easy, Godfather. Just give me a little more time."

"How can I give you more time? Haven’t I given you enough already? You can’t even handle a simple thing like this. Do you have a death wish?" Charlie Rhodes was furious. He had been holding back for too long.

Ruby said, "Godfather, it’s not that I don’t want to. It’s just... with Quentin Blackwood around, I really can’t do anything."

Charlie Rhodes knew it too. Quentin Blackwood was indeed a problem, one that even he couldn’t handle.

He’d almost been beaten to death by Quentin last time and had only just recovered. He felt that if he could just have Ivy Sherwood, he’d be willing to die for it.

If he couldn’t have her, it would be the regret of a lifetime. He wouldn’t be able to rest in peace.

"Figure something out! No matter what, I must have Ivy Sherwood!"

After his angry outburst, Charlie Rhodes hung up.

Perhaps because he was so angry, his voice was loud enough for Jason Summers, parked right beside him, to hear everything clearly.

’I was right,’ he thought. ’This old man is after Ivy Sherwood.’

’He looks much older than me, and so sleazy.’

But Jason Summers saw this as a golden opportunity.

Quentin Blackwood’s reputation preceded him. He was known for being someone you don’t mess with—tenacious and incredibly difficult to handle.

His own generation was aging, and among the new crop of young people, there were very few who could stand up to Quentin Blackwood. Even those who could weren’t necessarily his match.

If Quentin decided to come after him, he probably wouldn’t stand much of a chance.

And between him and Ivy, certain things were bound to come to light eventually. When they did, it would be a life-or-death struggle.

Everything he was doing now was merely laying the groundwork to stop Ivy from digging into the secrets between them. He had a nagging feeling that she would find out sooner or later, yet he couldn’t simply kill her.

Having Quentin Blackwood by her side when that happened would be a huge problem for him.

If Quentin were to leave Ivy, however, things would be much simpler.

He had been following Ivy for a few days now and always saw Quentin with her. He thought Quentin seemed to be quite fond of Ivy, just like Winter Mercer and that other man back then. The two of them had been so sweet it was blinding.

At first, he couldn’t find an opportunity or think of a plan. But now, having stumbled upon this Charlie Rhodes, Jason thought, why not use this to his own advantage?

A plan began to form in Jason Summers’s mind. ’If Charlie Rhodes were to defile Ivy, would a man as proud and powerful as Quentin Blackwood still want a sullied woman?’

’He didn’t think a man like Quentin was capable of deep affection. At most, he was drawn to Ivy’s beauty. It was likely just a man’s possessiveness, a simple desire to conquer and own her.’

’It was just like back then, when I was so infatuated with Winter Mercer. But when I found out she’d been thoroughly used by that other man, even carrying his child, all I felt was fury and disgust. Only then did I realize I didn’t actually like her that much after all.’

He was sure Quentin would be the same.

Right now, Charlie Rhodes couldn’t get near Ivy Sherwood because of Quentin. This was a difficult problem for Charlie and his accomplice, but for Jason, solving it would be simple.

All he had to do was use a few tricks to create some trouble for Quentin and lure him out of Lustre. Once that was done, Charlie Rhodes would have his chance. It was a perfect way to kill two birds with one stone.

’My own influence isn’t small, either,’ he mused. ’I can just help this old man from the shadows and ensure he succeeds. Perfect.’

By the time Quentin returned, the deed between Ivy and another man would already be done. He was eager to see what Quentin would choose then. ’He certainly won’t want her anymore.’

’Even if he doesn’t mind at first, it will eventually eat at him. He’ll feel disgusted and go find other women.’

The beauty of this plan was that he would be using someone else’s hands to eliminate a threat to himself, and no one would ever trace it back to him. He had plenty of ways to lure Quentin away without getting his own hands dirty.

’Even if Quentin investigates later, his anger will be directed solely at that old man. This whole affair will have nothing to do with me.’
