"What do you think you’re doing?" Nina Scott knew it wouldn’t be that easy for her to leave.

So, Nina immediately shouted toward the door, "Help! Help me!"

Her voice was loud enough for those outside the private room to hear, and a waiter immediately knocked. "Hello, may I ask what’s going on in there?"

Under these circumstances, Mrs. Scott was completely unable to get Nina under control.

"Call the police for me! Someone’s trying to kill me!" Nina’s voice rang out, and the waiter outside started to panic.

"Don’t be ridiculous!" Mrs. Scott was at her wit’s end with Nina.

Worried the waiter might actually call the police, the Walkers quickly opened the door to the room.

Otherwise, it would be Nina’s word against theirs, and they wouldn’t be able to clear their name even if they jumped into the Siltflow River.

Only now did the Walkers realize that this Nina Scott was really something else; she had managed to outmaneuver all of them.

Seeing the situation inside, the waiter hesitated, unsure whether to call the police.

Just then, the man who had been waiting outside walked in.

"What’s wrong?"

"This young lady is asking us to call the police for her," the waiter explained. "We weren’t sure if we should."

Seeing Miles Mercer, a flash of surprise crossed Nina’s eyes, quickly replaced by delight. "Husband! Save me!"

The word "husband" made everyone’s expression change; even Miles Mercer himself frowned.

’This must be the first time Nina has ever called him that. Even though their relationship is fake, she’s shouting it without the slightest hint of embarrassment!’

"Husband, they were going to hit me! And they wanted to lock me up again, just like last time."

Nina began to plead her case. She hadn’t expected Miles Mercer to come in person.

She had only asked Miles to have a few people waiting by the restaurant entrance; that was all.

Besides, she and Miles were barely acquaintances. She’d assumed he wouldn’t get involved in her affairs.

"Come here." Miles held out his hand, beckoning to Nina.

"As long as I’m here, they won’t dare to touch you."

Miles Mercer’s presence was as powerful as anyone’s in the room. The Walkers thought that this man looked nothing like the "poor man" the Scotts had described. In fact, he seemed positively aristocratic.

Although his clothes were unbranded, they clearly weren’t cheap.

Nina walked over to him. "My husband really is the best to me. Husband, they were trying to force me to get remarried. I recorded all the evidence. If the police need it, I can hand it over right away."

Nina waved her phone. ’She was no fool.’

"Good. I’ll take you to file a report."

"Wait!" Mrs. Scott quickly intercepted them. "This is a family matter! Why would you call the police?"

"Weren’t you trying to stop me from leaving? Weren’t you planning to lock me up again? And didn’t you just try to hit me?" Nina said. "If I don’t call the police, you’ll beat me half to death!"

Miles looked at her, his eyes darkening. "Did they hit you?"

"Not exactly. She didn’t get the chance."

The piercing look in Miles’s eyes finally softened. "Good."

"You go on ahead. The driver is waiting outside. Leave this to me."

"Alright, I’ll leave it in your hands then." And with that, Nina left.

’A minor scene like this would be no problem for Miles.’

’To be honest, she was quite touched. In all these years of facing the Scotts, no one had ever stepped up to handle the fallout for her.’

’Miles was the first.’

’That man... he wasn’t so bad sometimes. He always waited for her quietly outside. He probably only came in because he heard her cries for help.’

Nina got in the car. Everyone else’s attention turned to Miles. "We’re married now," Miles said. "Nina is, indeed, my wi—"

He paused. He wasn’t as thick-skinned as Nina, who could throw around the word "husband" so casually. He just couldn’t bring himself to say the word "wife."

He cleared his throat. "She’s my person. If you want to cause trouble for her in the future, come to me. I’ll be waiting. But if I find you doing anything to her behind my back, don’t blame me for being ruthless."

For a moment, Mrs. Scott was genuinely intimidated. He looked like he would actually do something.

"You good-for-nothing, you think you can marry my daughter for free? If you want to marry her, you have to pay a bride price! It wasn’t easy raising her all these years!" Mrs. Scott said.

’This good-for-nothing could never afford it.’

"How much?" Miles wasn’t familiar with these customs.

’But money wasn’t an issue. It wasn’t like he couldn’t afford it.’

"Thirty million!" Mrs. Scott named an outrageous sum.

’She had only gotten ten million from the Walkers.’

’Ten million was already an astronomical price. If this poor bastard could actually come up with thirty million, she could even pay back the Walkers’ ten million.’

’But there was no way this man could afford it.’

"Fine. But the money isn’t for you. It’s for Nina. I’ll transfer it to her account."

With that, Miles turned and left.

As he walked away, he arranged for someone to transfer fifty million to Nina. Thirty million was too little; he decided to round it up.

Mrs. Scott yelled after him, "You pauper, stop pretending to be a big shot! You definitely don’t have the money! Transferring it to Nina? She’s just been fooled by you!"

’Mrs. Scott figured Nina probably only agreed to marry the man because he was handsome.’

Meanwhile, the Walkers were also getting ready to leave. "Your Scott family had better give us a proper explanation for this!"

Mrs. Scott said, "Mrs. Walker, how about I return the bride price to you first? Would that be acceptable? My daughter is just so insensible. I’ll be sure to bring her to your home another day to formally apologize."

A moment ago, Mrs. Scott had been calling her "my dear in-law," but now she didn’t dare.

"We don’t need it!" Mrs. Walker snapped. "For the Scott family to do something like this... if you’re not ashamed, we’re ashamed for you! The bride price is nothing to us. But your son’s project? That only went so smoothly because of our help. It would only take a single word from us to make it all fall apart."

Mrs. Walker’s gaze fell on Yara Scott. "Actually, what Nina said earlier was right. We only ever announced a marriage alliance between the Walker and Scott families. We never specified *who* from the Scott family. An adopted daughter isn’t exactly presentable, it’s true, but as things stand, our Walker family is the only one losing out. We demand the wedding proceed as planned."

"Mrs. Walker, we never expected this to happen. It’s our fault, I know, but I beg you, please be merciful. Don’t do anything to my son," Mrs. Scott pleaded.

But the Walkers weren’t buying it. "What good is an apology? Do you think the Walker family needs your apology? We came here in good faith, and now this is entirely the Scott family’s fault!"

Mrs. Walker’s face was grim. "You’d better think long and hard about this. We want a satisfactory resolution!"
