Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 509: What Marriage Certificate? Do You Want a Divorce Certificate?

  • Next Chapter

After meeting with Jason Summers, Ivy Sherwood called Xavier Mercer.

Xavier Mercer said, "I don’t know much about what happened with our aunt back then. I just know that Grandpa really hates Jason Summers. We’re polite to Uncle Summers, but Grandpa gets upset every time he sees him."

"He hasn’t married all these years, and I’ve never heard about any women in his life. His feelings for our aunt seem genuine, but as for what happened between them, that’s unclear. Even Grandpa doesn’t know."

"So, what kind of person is he? Is he a good guy, or is he obsessive, like Caleb Blackwood?" Ivy Sherwood asked.

She didn’t know Jason Summers, so she really couldn’t tell.

"Uncle Summers has built a huge business over the years; he’s got a sharp business mind. His personality is hard to say. He’s very good with people, and at least publicly, he has a great reputation. Grandpa is probably the only one who doesn’t like him."

In the past, Ivy Sherwood might have thought highly of someone like that.

But after all she’d seen, Ivy was a little wary.

Wasn’t Caleb Blackwood the perfect example? The great philanthropist of Lustre. And how did that turn out?

’No matter what, I should be careful.’

"Since Grandpa doesn’t like him, I’ll try to avoid contact with him as much as possible."

"If he knows you exist, I don’t think he’ll stay away. Even if he doesn’t pester you, he’ll probably want to see you more often. Did he say anything about you being his child?"

"He did. He said he and my mother had a history, and going by the timeline, I would be his child. But I don’t know if it’s true."

"It’s okay. It doesn’t matter whether you are or not. You’re a child of the Mercer family. With the Mercers here, he can’t do anything to you. No one can force you to do anything you don’t want to."

Ivy Sherwood smiled. "You’re the best, big brother!"

She used to envy Nina for having a brother. Even though the Scott Family was awful to her, Seth Scott was very good to her.

Ivy had always wanted an older brother, and now she had three.

"You’re my little sister. Of course I should treat you well, shouldn’t I?" Xavier Mercer said.

Ivy Sherwood let out a soft laugh. ’This is the confidence that comes from having family!’

Ivy also told Quentin Blackwood about this, and he too told her to ignore Jason Summers.

He added, "If Jason Summers gives you any trouble, come to me."

"You sound exactly like my big brother," Ivy remarked.

’It seems like I’m surrounded by heavyweights, and I’m just a small fry.’

’I need to work hard and rise up, too. Otherwise, how could I deserve to stand beside these titans?’

In fact, Ivy’s career had been skyrocketing recently. Not only was her brand, Iris, expanding, but even her investment firm was getting on track. The projects she had invested in while learning were now turning a profit, and her pockets were getting very full.

"Oh? So, who do you like more, him or me?"

"How can you even compare? Don’t tell me you’re jealous of my brother too?" Ivy felt there was no comparison at all.

One was family, and the other was... the man she liked!

Quentin’s soft laughter echoed in her ear. Even through the phone, she could feel his breath.

Ivy hurriedly hung up. ’No more talking, no more talking. If this goes on any longer, we’ll get sidetracked, and I won’t get any work done for hours.’

...

The time for Nina Scott to have dinner with the Walker Family soon arrived. Nina called Miles Mercer. "I think things might get messy. Just in case, can I borrow some of your men? They can just wait for me outside the restaurant. If I’m not out within a certain amount of time, have them rush in. I’m afraid the Walkers and the Scotts are going to team up and tear me to pieces!"

After all, Nina was about to do something big today. Her safety was paramount, and she couldn’t afford to be careless.

"Okay," Miles Mercer agreed.

With Miles’s promise, Nina went to the dinner without any worry.

The Walkers had booked a private luxury suite at The Lustre Grand Hotel.

Nina didn’t arrive early. By the time she got there, almost everyone had already arrived.

The Walker parents, the Scott parents, and Cameron Walker were all there, along with Cameron’s child. Even Yara Scott had come, probably to watch the drama unfold.

"Nina, on such an important occasion, how could you be so late? Making all the elders wait for you—that’s not very appropriate, is it?" Yara Scott spoke first.

It sounded like she was scolding Nina, but in reality, she was planting a thorn in everyone’s mind. Nina wasn’t actually late, just the last to arrive, which wasn’t a big deal. But with Yara’s comment, it made it seem like Nina was being disrespectful.

Nina said, "Well, I’m certainly not as eager as you, arriving so early. Anyone who didn’t know better would think you were the one whose wedding was just around the corner."

"Nina!" Mrs. Scott scolded, her face cold. "Look at where you are! What kind of nonsense are you spouting!"

"Human words, of course. What, can’t you understand them?" Nina’s smile was brilliant, and she even looked a little playful.

She pulled out the only empty chair, the one next to Cameron Walker, and sat down, unconcerned about what that placement implied.

Mrs. Scott was furious again but suppressed her anger for the sake of the occasion.

"My dear in-law, our Nina isn’t usually like this. Please don’t mind her."

Nina sneered inwardly. ’She’s certainly in a hurry. Nothing’s even settled, and she’s already calling her ’in-law’.’

She poured herself a cup of tea. ’No need to rush. The good part is just beginning.’

"To be honest, I didn’t think much of your family," Cameron Walker’s mother said. Although she was displeased and looked down on the Scotts, she didn’t press the issue. "But who knew my son would be so taken? He’s a handful, that one. As long as the two of them are happy, we have no objections."

After all, she knew perfectly well what her own son was like.

Publicly, it was said to be his second marriage, but in reality, he’d already been divorced three times.

Adding Nina Scott to the list wouldn’t make much of a difference. If her son didn’t settle down, they could just get another divorce and he could marry again.

The Walker Family had plenty of power and influence, so it was a trivial matter to them.

Hearing her family being looked down upon like this, Mrs. Scott was secretly furious, but she kept a cheerful smile on her face.

"I understand. We’ll all be one family soon, and I’ll be sure to teach our Nina some manners. The wedding date is already set, so... my dear in-law, what do you think? When would be a good time for the children to get their marriage license?"

"Our Cameron is fine with any time. It all depends on your Nina."

Cameron’s mother glanced over, not giving Nina a second thought. She’d seen plenty of women like her.

Nina feigned a look of utter shock. "Get a license? What license?"

"A marriage license, of course," Mrs. Scott said.

At this, Nina looked even more stunned. "A marriage license? But I already have one. Mom, would you like a divorce certificate instead?"

"What divorce certificate? You told us she’s never been married!" the Walkers protested.

Mrs. Scott’s face changed. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
