Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 506: Becoming Suspicious
Nina Scott said, "In that case, I should really go and thank Grandpa properly."
"Don’t! It’s not like Grandpa needs you to thank him," Miles Mercer protested.
’If she goes, won’t my cover be blown?’
"Alright then. Thank you, Miles Mercer." At that moment, Nina Scott was truly grateful to him.
Miles was a little unused to her being so polite.
He looked away. "Don’t mention it."
...
At the Scott residence, no one in the family had much of an appetite. Yara Scott was still playing the role of the good person.
"Mom, Dad, don’t be angry. Hasn’t Nina always been like this, even as a child? She’s so thoughtless, completely disregarding that we’re a family and showing Mom no respect at all. Mom, you only want what’s best for her. I feel so bad for you."
Yara Scott was about to say more, but when she saw Seth Scott return, she quickly called out, "Brother."
Seth Scott didn’t have much of an appetite either. "Dad, Mom, I have something to take care of at the office. I’m full, so I’m heading out."
Mrs. Scott was just about to ask Seth to eat a little more when she heard Yara say, "Brother, you barely ate anything. Why don’t you have a little more?"
"No, I’m full."
Seth left without another word. Yara added, "How about I have the housekeeper pack some for you? You can eat it at the office. If you get busy, you might not even have time for dinner."
Seth refused again. "No need. My secretary will bring me dinner."
A flicker of disappointment crossed Yara’s eyes. She didn’t notice Mrs. Scott watching her from the side. Before, Mrs. Scott had never noticed anything amiss, but Nina Scott’s words had planted a thorn in her heart.
Nina had just said that there was someone in this family whom Yara coveted.
’There aren’t many people in the family. Who could Yara possibly covet?’
And just now, she realized that Yara’s concern for Seth seemed a bit excessive.
Thinking back, she realized that Yara always asked Seth so many extra questions.
Mrs. Scott said, "Yara, what did Nina mean by what she said when she left? Who in this family are you coveting?"
Yara’s heart leaped, and her expression changed. "Mom, that was just Nina trying to stir up trouble. You can’t believe her."
"Then aren’t you being a little too nice to your brother?" Mrs. Scott was still uneasy.
Yara said, "But he’s my brother! He’s my family, just like you and Dad. Of course I should care about him."
’In truth, she was terrified. Terrified that Mrs. Scott would see through her.’
’She knew Mrs. Scott only liked her for now because she had always maintained a perfect image. In reality, Mrs. Scott was extremely selfish, self-centered, and couldn’t stand being contradicted.’
’If she knew what I was thinking, she would kick me out without a second thought.’
It seemed to make sense, but Mrs. Scott still felt a faint sense of displeasure.
"From now on, don’t worry about your brother’s affairs."
Yara pressed her lips together. "Okay, Mom."
"You’re not young anymore. It really is time for me to find a good family for you to marry into," Mrs. Scott continued.
Yara shook her head frantically. "Mom, I want to stay by your side for a while longer! I don’t want to get married yet."
Mr. Scott chimed in at that moment, "Let’s talk about this later. We need to handle Nina’s situation first."
Mrs. Scott thought so too and decided not to dwell on it for now.
...
Nina Scott told Ivy Sherwood what had happened and also shared her plan.
Ivy said, "I can just picture it. So when you agreed to have dinner with the Walker Family, you don’t mean you’re also planning to..."
"Of course. They don’t want to let me off easy, so I won’t let any of them off easy either. I’m not afraid of anyone now, anyway."
Nina had her marriage certificate in hand. She was actually looking forward to having dinner with the Walker Family. After all, it was only a few days away.
"I’m already married. Aren’t you and President Blackwood going to hurry things up a bit?"
"I... We don’t know yet."
"Hasn’t he mentioned marriage?"
"He has."
In fact, Quentin Blackwood had mentioned it several times.
Ivy Sherwood said, "It’s just that I haven’t made up my mind yet."
Nina nodded. "That’s true. Your situation is different from mine. I’ve got nothing left to lose, but you really do need to think it through carefully."
After dinner, Ivy and Nina parted ways.
Quentin Blackwood picked Ivy Sherwood up. However, instead of taking the main road, Quentin’s car cut through an alley.
Ivy found it strange. "Are we taking a shortcut?"
Quentin shook his head. "No. Someone’s following us."
And that person had been following them for several days.
Quentin had noticed it for the past two days and had already sent someone to investigate.
When it came to anything involving Ivy, Quentin was extremely cautious. He wasn’t sure of the person’s motive, so this time, he was planning to draw them out.
The car entered the small alley, planning to loop out from the other side. Quentin’s driving skills were superb; even in the dim, narrow lane, he drove with perfect stability.
Quentin’s car exited on one side, then shot out from another, completely disorienting the person following them.
Finally, Quentin cornered the person at the mouth of the alley. He said to Ivy, "Stay in the car. Don’t get out. I’m going to take a look."
"What if it’s dangerous? Shouldn’t you call for backup?"
"It’s fine. I know what I’m doing."
With that, Quentin got out of the car.
Seeing that they’d been discovered, the person in the other car didn’t hesitate and got out as well.
"Mr. Summers." When Quentin saw the man who emerged, it was indeed someone he hadn’t expected.
"President Blackwood, long time no see."
"It probably hasn’t been that long for you, Mr. Summers. You’ve been following me every day for the past two days. Are you perhaps looking for an opportunity to make a move against me?"
"President Blackwood, you misunderstand. I have absolutely no such intention. It’s just that the person with you greatly resembles an old acquaintance of mine. To be honest, I did investigate, and the young lady in the car should be Miss Sherwood, correct? We met before on the cruise ship." Jason Summers’s expression was unreadable.
After so many years, an old fox like him wasn’t about to wear his heart on his sleeve. Men like him had long since perfected their own act.
"I’ve been searching for that acquaintance for over twenty years, but I’ve never had any news. I wanted to meet with Miss Sherwood, but I couldn’t summon the courage, fearing she might refuse me. That’s why I’ve been following you. If it’s convenient, President Blackwood, could you possibly let me meet with Miss Sherwood alone?"
Jason Summers put on a very sentimental display, his tone laced with urgency and sorrow.
It was as if he were someone who had finally found a person he’d been searching for for a very long time, yet didn’t dare to acknowledge them.
In the car, Ivy also saw the man who had gotten out. Her heart trembled. It was Jason Summers!
Jason Summers was very refined in appearance, with a mature, distinguished aura that hinted at his handsome youth.
Ivy hadn’t forgotten that Xavier Mercer had once said her biological father might be Jason Summers.
She didn’t know what Quentin and Jason were talking about, but she wondered, ’Did Jason Summers see my face and realize I’m my mother’s daughter?’
