Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Chapter 481: This Fellow, Still So Foolish

  • Next Chapter

Nina Scott quickly hung up the phone and said apologetically to Cameron Walker, "I’m so sorry, Mr. Walker. My husband just can’t live without me. He’s so clingy, what can you do?"

"Didn’t you say you had no plans to marry?"

"That’s right. I’m not planning to get married, but that doesn’t mean I can’t date. Besides, we have a very stable relationship. I love him, and he loves me."

Cameron Walker scoffed. "Aren’t you being a little naive, Miss Scott? There’s more to adult relationships than just love. Financial stability is crucial, and I can give you more money than you could ever spend."

"Thank you, but are you trying to pick a wife or a head of cabbage? This isn’t the kind of thing that more money can solve. Goodbye, Mr. Walker. I won’t see you out."

Unwilling to say more, Nina Scott quickly returned to the hospital room.

Inside the hospital room, Mrs. Scott was sitting up. Nina Scott walked in and said, "Can you just stop wasting your energy on these pointless schemes? I’m very busy. I don’t have time to play along with your act."

"Just listen to yourself! Am I not doing this for your own good? You’re my daughter. Do you really think I would ever harm you?"

"I already have a boyfriend, so you don’t need to trouble yourself. Thank you."

"What’s so great about that boyfriend of yours? So he’s handsome, what else? His family has no money. Is he worthy of our family? You’re a Scott, for heaven’s sake. Not just any riffraff can marry you. As for Cameron, his family is rich and politically connected. Do you have any idea how much he could help our family?"

Nina Scott said coldly, "You should show some respect. My boyfriend is a human being. Since you like him so much, why don’t you marry Yara off to him instead?"

"How can you be compared to Yara? You..."

The moment the words left her mouth, Mrs. Scott realized she’d misspoken. She had promised to speak to Nina gently.

"I have my own arrangements for Yara. Nina, this man is the most suitable match for you. Mother knows best; I wouldn’t make a mistake. If you marry him, you’ll walk straight into a life of luxury."

Heh. Nina Scott smiled, but her eyes held no warmth.

’A life of luxury... how nice that sounds,’ she thought. ’If an opportunity this good really existed, would they ever think of me?’

"I’ve already made it perfectly clear to him. I’m not going to marry him, so you can just give up on the idea."

Nina Scott looked at Mrs. Scott. "Since you’re fine, I’ll be leaving now."

"Nina Scott, you... you rebellious child! I have no daughter like you!" Mrs. Scott clutched her heart, feeling like she was about to die from sheer anger.

But Nina Scott walked away without a backward glance. ’Perfect,’ she thought. ’I don’t want a mother like that, either.’

Yara Scott had actually been watching everything from the sidelines. Seeing this, she quickly came over. "Mother, Mother, are you alright?"

"She’s going to be the death of me!" Yara soothed her mother, patting her back. "Mom, Nina is completely out of line. How could she upset you like this when you’re in the hospital? You’re only doing this for her own good. You have her best interests at heart, and she’s just being ungrateful."

Yara’s words only stoked Mrs. Scott’s anger. She felt all her sincere efforts were utterly wasted. ’I was just trying to do what’s best for Nina!’ she thought. ’That Cameron Walker is so wealthy; Nina would be set for life.’

’Didn’t she say she doesn’t want to have children? She’d just be a stepmother. What’s so bad about that?’

"Mother, if I were Nina, I would listen to everything you say. But now that she’s acted this way, hasn’t she offended the Walker Family? Won’t that make things even more difficult for Brother’s project?"

"She’ll marry him whether she wants to or not. She doesn’t have a choice in this matter!"

Yara’s lips curled into a smirk as she hugged her mother.

Nina Scott answered a call from Ivy Sherwood. Ivy’s worried voice came through the phone, "Nina, are you okay? My brother told me you were putting on an act again?"

Nina said, "Don’t even get me started. I don’t know what kind of hex Yara put on that woman from the Scott family this time, but she found another man for me. It wasn’t even a blind date; she wants to marry me off directly. You have no idea how ridiculous it is!"

’There are just too many absurd things in this world. Is marriage really just a commodity to be measured by a price tag?’

’Why does it always have to be about marrying for money, instead of willingly choosing someone you actually love?’

Nina Scott didn’t consider herself short on cash. Her studio brought in tens of millions a year, which she felt was more than enough to live comfortably.

’Why should I give up my own studio just to go raise someone else’s kid?’

"She didn’t give you a hard time, did she?" Ivy Sherwood asked.

"No, they can’t make things hard for me." Nina wasn’t the type to bottle up her anger. If those people wanted to make her life difficult, she’d make sure everyone was miserable.

’The Scotts kept calling him my "poor boyfriend." If they ever found out who Miles Mercer really was, they’d probably die of shock.’

’The Mercer family fortune was enough to buy the entire Scott family many times over. They were truly snobs, looking down their noses at people. It was infuriating just to think about it.’

Still, Nina had no intention of revealing Miles’s identity. He wasn’t her real boyfriend, after all.

"Tell your brother not to read too much into it. I was just putting on an act for the situation, nothing more. There will probably be many more times like this in the future, so he should be prepared."

"Don’t worry, I’ll tell him."

After Ivy Sherwood hung up, Quentin Blackwood sidled over and wrapped his arms around her. "Why are you getting all worked up with her?"

Ivy Sherwood said, "I just think the Scott family has gone too far. It’s bad enough they don’t treat Nina like their own daughter, but now they’re trying to force her into a marriage alliance. Isn’t that exactly what Timothy Sherwood did back in the day?"

Timothy Sherwood had done the same thing back then to curry favor with the Blackwood Family. People like that are all the same.

"She’ll handle it herself, so don’t you worry about her."

"How can I not worry? She’s my best friend. I want her to be happy."

"I’m sure she knows how much you care. By the way, if you have time tonight, come with me to a get-together."

"What kind of get-together?" Ivy Sherwood asked.

"Ethan Forrest and his friends are in Lustre, and so is Landon Jacobs. You know them all. We’ll invite Julian Grant and Graham Sherwood, too. Julian’s personality is a lot like Ethan’s; I bet those two will hit it off immediately."

"Sounds great. I haven’t seen them in a long time."

Soon, evening arrived, and Quentin Blackwood took Ivy Sherwood to a private club.

Ethan Forrest was already there. As the host, Julian Grant had, of course, made perfect arrangements—he had booked the entire club for the night, closing it to the public.

He and Ethan Forrest really did hit it off right away. Their personalities were quite similar—both were laid-back and informal, and they were both chatterboxes, so they warmed up to each other quickly.

Landon Jacobs, on the other hand, was sitting quietly to the side. He was holding his phone, his brows furrowed at something he saw on the news.

On his screen was a report that Milo Jacobs had been injured on set.

Milo Jacobs had been filming recently and was apparently injured during a wire stunt. His popularity had been soaring, and he’d been filming back-to-back, moving from one production to the next without a break.

His fans’ hearts ached for him. Milo Jacobs was incredibly hardworking, and his fans could all see his sincerity.

Landon Jacobs, however, pressed his lips into a thin line. ’Getting injured just from filming a scene,’ he thought. ’That guy... he’s still as clumsy as ever.’
