Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 457: You Young People Sure Know How to Have Fun
Ivy Sherwood shook her head. "Are you sure you weren’t the one who got hurt?"
Quentin Blackwood chuckled softly. "And you said you weren’t worried about me."
"Is this really the time to be talking about that?!"
"I’m just very happy. Ivy, seeing you makes me happy."
Quentin didn’t tell Ivy Sherwood how he had gotten through the days without her. Each day had felt like a year, and the sky had seemed perpetually dim.
But now, the sun had returned to his world.
"So, are you still going to the airport? Aren’t you going to miss your flight?" Ivy Sherwood glanced at the time.
Quentin said, "It doesn’t matter if I miss it. I’ll have Zane Linton arrange a private jet. I can leave whenever I want."
"But right now, I don’t want to leave."
’This Ivy, isn’t she more important than work? I just want to be by her side and go nowhere else.’
Quentin followed Ivy Sherwood back to her home, where she told him to go wash up.
Quentin took a shower and emerged from the bathroom wrapped only in a towel, his muscular torso on full display.
Ivy tossed his clothes at him. "Get dressed! Don’t forget you’re still on probation. Acting indecently like this will get you points deducted!"
Quentin put on the clothes, then asked if Ivy was hungry.
Ivy had already eaten noodles and wasn’t hungry yet, but Quentin said he was and asked if she would accompany him to the street market downstairs.
Ivy Sherwood and Quentin Blackwood went downstairs together, talking as they walked. "So that driver... he really died at the scene?"
"Yes. He was also rushing to catch a flight and was speeding excessively. A large truck ahead of him was also changing lanes, and he crashed right into it."
"Then you’re not allowed to drive too fast or speed in the future. If you didn’t rest well the night before, or if you feel tired, you have to let your driver take the wheel. I don’t want my baby to be born without a father."
Ivy muttered the last part of her sentence, her voice barely a whisper.
Quentin squeezed her hand tightly. "I’ll take good care of myself. This life of mine is waiting for you to marry me."
"I haven’t said I’ll marry you yet!"
"Sooner or later, you will."
"Where do you get this confidence?"
Quentin said, "I’ve always been this confident."
Quentin didn’t take Ivy far. Not far from her apartment building, there was an old woman selling vegetables.
When Ivy had brought Quentin home before, they had bought vegetables from this same woman.
Seeing Ivy, the old woman called out, "Hey, pretty lady! What are you buying today?"
"Granny, it’s me, Ivy Sherwood."
"Ivy? How did you get so pretty?"
Ivy didn’t know how to explain, so she just said, "I got plastic surgery."
"Well, they did a great job! So beautiful. No wonder I haven’t seen you in a while. What are you getting today?"
Ivy said, "I haven’t decided yet. We’re just looking around."
"Alrighty. Hey, haven’t I seen this handsome man before? I remember, he’s your uncle, right? The divorced one with two kids?"
Ivy Sherwood: "..."
Quentin Blackwood: "..."
That’s what Ivy had said last time. She hadn’t expected the old woman’s memory to be so good that she’d actually remember.
"Is your uncle married now? You know, I actually have a young niece who’s also divorced. How about I introduce them?" The old woman looked at Quentin. It would be a shame to let such a handsome young man get away.
Quentin’s face darkened. He whispered into Ivy’s ear, "This is the mess you got me into."
Ivy chuckled softly. "Did you hear that? The granny’s niece wants an introduction. You should count your lucky stars!"
Quentin looked down at Ivy, then pulled her into his arms. "Granny, you’ve misunderstood. I’m not her uncle, I’m her husband. I’ve never been divorced and I don’t have two kids. Thank you for the kind offer, but we’re already married."
"You two..." The old woman’s eyes went wide. ’Young people these days are really something else!’
"Granny, don’t listen to his nonsense. He’s not my husband yet. We aren’t married."
Quentin said, "We will be soon. Granny, we’ll invite you for a drink then."
Quentin quickly picked out some vegetables and left with Ivy.
Ivy said, "Don’t you know there are no secrets in this neighborhood? That’s going to spread like wildfire. Soon, all the neighbors will be saying I married my uncle!"
"Who was it that said I was your uncle in the first place?" Quentin’s voice was full of affection.
Ivy Sherwood: "..."
’Fine,’ she thought. ’I guess what goes around comes around.’
"Do you want some candied fruit?" Quentin asked, spotting fresh strawberries nearby.
"You know how to make that?"
"No, but I can learn. But if I make it well, will there be a reward?"
"You’re lucky I’m not deducting points. You still want a reward? No way!"
However, just as Ivy finished speaking, Quentin stole a kiss. "Since Miss Sherwood won’t give me a reward, I’ll just have to take one myself."
...
After buying the vegetables and returning home, Quentin simply prepared a couple of dishes.
Ivy wasn’t hungry at first, but the aroma made her feel a little peckish.
She came over and ate a little with Quentin. She also tried the candied strawberries he made, which tasted quite good. They were very sweet.
「The day passed quickly, and night fell.」
Quentin didn’t return to Aethelgard, but he still had work to handle. After calling Zane Linton, he said he would go back in two days.
He had finally made some progress with Ivy; of course he couldn’t leave now.
On the phone, Zane had also told Quentin that when the car accident happened, Ivy couldn’t reach him and had called Zane instead.
Hearing Zane say how worried Ivy had been, Quentin’s heart stirred.
He could certainly imagine how she felt. It was just like when Ivy had been drugged by Charlie Rhodes; when he found out she was in trouble, he had wanted to turn the whole world upside down.
"President Blackwood, Miss Sherwood, she..."
Before Zane Linton could finish his sentence, Quentin hung up the phone.
He rushed to the bedroom and looked at the person on the bed.
"You..."
Quentin practically lunged, sweeping Ivy Sherwood into his arms.
"What’s wrong with you? Weren’t you outside on the phone with Zane Linton?" Suddenly embraced, Ivy was a little stunned.
"I missed you." Quentin held her tightly in his arms.
"There’s zero credibility in that." ’They had seen each other just five minutes ago at most. How could he suddenly miss me?’
It didn’t matter whether Ivy believed him or not; Quentin really did miss her. Even though they were only separated by a door, he couldn’t wait to come in and hold her.
Quentin didn’t know when he had started to become so insecure, so afraid of loss.
He had always believed that anything he set his mind on, he could obtain. There was nothing in this world that he, Quentin Blackwood, could not get.
But that tactic didn’t work on Ivy Sherwood.
He didn’t want to take her by force, nor could he bear to force his love on her. He just wanted her to be happy by his side every day.
