World Evolution: Starting With The Wind Monarch
Chapter 75: Overcoming Her Fear (Part 1)
"Do you know her?"
Glen looked at Lia and frowned slightly. After going through his memories, he shook his head.
"Who is she?"
Evan wasn’t surprised by Glen’s answer. As the commander of the guard office, he had to handle many things every day, so cases like missing children and other incidents were normally handled by other people.
"She lives in Sky Pearl City and went missing last month..." Evan said and explained Lia’s situation to Glen.
As Glen listened to Evan, his expression became grim, and by the time Evan told him that it was one of the guards who had sold Lia, his face was already red with anger.
"These bastards..." Glen took a deep breath to suppress his anger and asked Evan, "Do you have any proof that what you’re telling me is true?"
Although Glen already had a feeling that Evan wasn’t lying, as he had no reason to lie about something like this, he still asked because he couldn’t simply believe someone’s words and arrest one of his own people based on a one-sided story.
"What evidence do you need?" Elena spoke before Evan could say anything. "Do you think a young child would lie to you about her situation?"
"That..." Glen looked at Elena helplessly.
"Commander Glen, I understand your situation," Evan said, seeing his expression. "How about this? Let us look at the guards in the guard office. If that guard is still here, I can assure you that he will admit his crimes on his own. And, of course, I won’t break any laws."
Glen was confused by Evan’s words, as he didn’t understand what Evan was planning to do. However, he didn’t refuse his suggestion and nodded, allowing them to look through the guards.
Seeing him agree, Evan looked at Lia.
"If you see that guard, just tell me, okay?"
Lia nodded with a serious expression.
Seeing this, Evan, Elena, and Lia left the room to look for the guard.
Glen didn’t go out with them, as it would attract too much attention if he did.
As Lia, Elena, and Evan moved around the guard office, many guards looked at them curiously, wondering what they were doing.
But seeing that they were just wandering around without causing any trouble, no one came to bother them.
For the next hour, the three of them moved all over the guard office, looking at every guard present there.
But even after looking at everyone, they didn’t find the person they were looking for.
"Maybe that guy is currently on patrol in the city..." Elena said when they couldn’t find the culprit.
Evan nodded, as he knew that many guards went on patrol around the city to maintain order.
"Don’t worry. We will find him eventually. Let’s go to your home first."
He patted Lia’s head and decided to bring her back for now.
Lia nodded, and they all started walking toward Glen’s office to inform him about this.
Just then, Evan noticed that Lia suddenly stopped and was staring at the entrance of the guard office with a pale face.
Evan frowned when he saw this and followed her gaze, seeing two guards who looked to be in their mid-twenties entering the office.
"Our shift is finally over..." Oliver, one of the guards, said as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.
"I hate this damn job of patrolling," Henry, his partner said as both of them entered the guard office building.
They were still talking when Henry suddenly noticed a little girl standing not far away from him, and his pupils contracted.
’How is this possible? What is she doing here?’
Henry shouted inwardly, looking at Lia with trembling eyes.
When Oliver noticed Henry’s reaction, he followed his gaze and raised an eyebrow.
"Do you know that girl?"
Henry came out of his stupor upon hearing Oliver’s question and tried to act calm.
"No, but I feel like I’ve seen her somewhere before..." As he spoke, he glanced at Oliver. "You go ahead. I will come after talking to her."
"Alright."
Oliver didn’t find anything wrong with his words and left without asking anything.
Once Oliver left, Henry looked around, and seeing that no guard was looking at him with hostility, he sighed in relief.
’It seems she hasn’t told anyone about me yet...’ He thought, and his eyes flashed with a cold light. ’I have to take her away before she exposes me.’
Without wasting any time, Henry hurriedly walked toward Lia.
Seeing him approaching, Lia’s face turned even more pale, and her body trembled in fear.
But soon, she felt a warm hand on her head and saw Evan looking at her with a calm smile.
Seeing Evan, Lia calmed down a little and took a deep breath.
"Is he the one?" Evan asked once she wasn’t trembling anymore.
Lia nodded without saying anything.
Soon, Henry arrived in front of them.
Seeing that someone was standing with Lia, Henry quickly thought about the best option and put on a surprised expression.
"Aren’t you the child who went missing some time ago? We searched for you all around the city but couldn’t find you anywhere. I am glad you’re safe."
Henry spoke as if he were genuinely worried about Lia.
Evan looked at Henry’s worried expression and if he didn’t know the truth, he might actually have believed that this guy was genuinely worried about her.
Seeing that Lia wasn’t saying anything, Henry looked at Evan.
"Are you the one who brought her back?"
Evan nodded without saying anything.
Henry sighed in relief when he saw this and spoke with emotion.
"Thank you for bringing her back. I can’t tell you how worried her parents were. They have been coming to the guard office every day to inquire about her..." He bowed to Evan and spoke seriously.
"You don’t have to worry about her anymore. I know her parents, so let me bring her back to them immediately."
As he spoke, Henry wanted to take Lia away from Evan, but Evan stopped him.
"I am planning to go to her home since I need to talk to her parents about something. I will bring her back myself."
A cold light flashed in Henry’s eyes upon hearing Evan, but he still nodded with a smile.
"Alright, but before you bring her back, we just need to ask her what happened to her. After we finish our questions, you can bring her back."
Henry stretched out his hand to grab Lia.
Lia flinched slightly when she saw this, but before Henry’s hand could reach her, Evan grabbed it.
"What are you doing?" Henry frowned and spoke coldly.
Evan didn’t say anything and increased the force of his grip, making Henry gasp in pain.
"You..." Henry gritted his teeth when he felt the increased pain. "I knew it. You must be the reason she went missing and don’t want me to investigate it."
"Is that so..." Evan sneered when he heard his words and pressed his wrist even harder, almost breaking it.
Henry couldn’t help but let out a painful groan and fell to his knees, struggling to free his hand.
Soon, all the nearby guards noticed what was happening, and their expressions changed.
Henry was also sweating as he saw how much attention they were attracting. He gritted his teeth, knowing that he would be in trouble if they attracted too much attention.
He looked at Evan again and spoke through gritted teeth.
"I just need to ask a few questions to her. Once I am done, you can brin—"
Evan didn’t let him finish his words and the next second—
Crunch!
The sound of bone breaking echoed across the guard office as Evan twisted Henry’s wrist, dislocating it.
"Arghhh!"
A painful scream echoed throughout the surroundings, and the eyes of the other guards widened.
Some of them immediately rushed toward Evan to stop him, but before they could reach him, the ring Evan was wearing flashed, and the next second—
"Thunder Field."
