Song Chunfang chided him with a laugh.

Dinner was once again just the two of them, master and apprentice.

Song Chunfang couldn’t stop praising it after tasting it, complimenting his cooking skills and saying it was much better than the cafeteria food.

After dinner, Yang Qi put Bai Wan, Hu Zi, and Leopard on their leashes, brought Xiaojiu along, and accompanied Song Chunfang for a stroll around the Handong University campus.

As one of the province’s top-tier, nationally renowned universities, Handong University’s campus had a classic and grand atmosphere.

In winter, the campus lacked the lush greenery of summer but possessed an added measure of solemnity and tranquility.

The tall French plane trees were reduced to their gnarled branches, pointing toward the grayish-blue sky.

Strolling among them, one could feel the dense academic atmosphere and historical heritage.

Accompanying Teacher Song, listening to her talk about the university’s stories and history, and watching the energetic young students pass by, a sense of peace settled in his heart.

By the time they finished their walk and returned to Song Chunfang’s home, the night had grown late.

Yang Qi stayed in the guest room, and the night passed uneventfully.

The next morning, Yang Qi woke up early as usual. After eating the breakfast Teacher Song had prepared, he headed to the School of Life Sciences again for his morning exam in Wildlife Conservation Ecology.

This exam was even broader in scope, combining ecological theory, practical conservation biology, and policy and regulations, among other topics.

Walking out of the examination hall, Yang Qi let out a long sigh of relief.

Both exams were finished. Now he could enjoy the New Year festivities without a worry.

He returned to Song Chunfang’s for lunch, after which he bid his teacher farewell, explaining that he had some business to attend to at the Red Star Zoo in the afternoon.

Song Chunfang knew he had a partnership with Red Star, so she didn’t ask for details, merely reminding him to be careful and inviting him to come back for dinner if he wanted.

Yang Qi politely declined, saying he would probably head straight back to Donghua after he was finished.

Amidst Song Chunfang’s parting reminders, Yang Qi took Xiaojiu, Bai Wan, Hu Zi, and Leopard and drove to the Red Star Zoo.

Upon arriving at the Red Star Zoo, Yang Qi contacted Tong Xiaoyue directly.

"Xiao Yang, you’re here! Are your exams over? How did they go?" Tong Xiaoyue quickly came down from the office building, asking with concern as soon as she saw him.

"They’re over. I think they went well."

Yang Qi smiled. "How have the wild leopard and ’Hua Hua’ been these past few days?"

At this, Tong Xiaoyue’s face lit up. "Good! Very good! They’re inseparable now—eating together, sleeping together, and interacting constantly. I’ve been monitoring their hormone levels and behavior, and I’m fairly certain they’ve already mated, even though I haven’t seen it with my own eyes. But seeing how clingy they are, it’s only a matter of time before she’s pregnant with cubs."

"That’s good."

Yang Qi nodded. "The one-month agreement is up. I have to go talk to him and see if he wants to stay or leave as we agreed."

Hearing this, Tong Xiaoyue’s excitement faded a little. She nodded. "I understand. Come on, I’ll take you there. They’re in the indoor simulated habitat enclosure now. It’s cold, so they spend most of their time inside."

Yang Qi had Xiaojiu, Bai Wan, and the others stay in the car.

He followed Tong Xiaoyue to the Leopard Hall.

The environment here was meticulously designed, with tall climbing frames, artificial rock caves, and enrichment toys. The lighting and temperature were also well-controlled.

Through the observation window, they could see two leopards, one large and one small, snuggled up together, dozing on a rock platform covered with a thick mat of dry hay.

It was the wild male leopard and the female, Hua Hua.

"Could you please open the staff access door? I’m going in to talk with them," Yang Qi said to a keeper standing nearby.

"Advisor Yang, please be careful."

Although the keeper knew what Yang Qi was capable of, he couldn’t help but offer a word of caution before carefully opening the heavy alloy door.
