Wolf Princess Sold to the Dragon King
Chapter 359: Loaded For A King, Given To A Queen
Sterling had caught the threat. Damon had ended it. The distinction sat between them like a line drawn in sand and both men knew who had crossed it.
Blair watched Damon release the broken finger the way a woman watches a man reveal a skill set she hadn’t inventoried. Her expression gave the room nothing. Her pulse gave her everything.
"The Princess has asked you three times what you were referring to when you said ’half-blood’s mark.’" Damon’s voice had dropped the measured interrogator tone. What replaced it was something that belonged in a room with fewer witnesses. "She has also asked you about ’surviving an extraction.’ About ’matebond severed before.’ About ’told Solandris the vessel has three now.’ And about a ’kill switch.’"
He let each phrase land on its own. Five grenades. One pin per sentence.
"You have five seconds to explain each, or the middle finger matches. Then the ring finger. Then the pinky. Then we start on the other hand. Go."
Sterling pressed the blade one degree harder against Marek’s neck. Damon stood over the broken finger with the patience of a man who had eight more to work with. Two men from two kingdoms, two species, competing to see who could threaten a prisoner more effectively while standing on opposite sides of a woman neither of them was willing to acknowledge they were performing for.

DRAKENCREST - DRAGON KING’S CHAMBERS
Guinevere Lunaris was watching men she loved fight over her and was done watching.
Maddox swung again.
This one was different. This was the swing meant to END the conversation. The kind of hit that rearranges bone structure and rewrites the rest of the evening. Nicholas was already shifting his weight to dodge because the first one had taught him the trajectory and his body had filed it under things that will happen again.
Guinevere stepped into the gap.
She didn’t think. Thinking would have involved a risk assessment and a cost-benefit analysis and possibly consulting a physician about whether inserting herself between two apex predators mid-combat was categorically insane. There was no thought. There was her body and the space between two men who were going to destroy each other and her slippers covered the distance before her brain filed the paperwork.
Maddox’s fist was already in transit and caught her full across the face.
Every ounce of strength he had loaded for Nicholas Shadowfell. The hit was so hard her slippers left the stone. Her body went sideways, airborne for a fraction of a second that lasted long enough for every man in that room to watch it happen and be unable to stop it.
She hit the floor.
The crack of her head meeting stone was the kind of sound that gets into a room’s bones and stays there. It entered through the ears and settled into the chest and nested and would live in every man present for the rest of their lives whether they wanted it to or not.
Her head bounced once off the floor. Her body crumpled into the position that gravity chose for it, which was facedown, silk robe twisted, one slipper gone, white hair fanning across the stone like a surrender flag that had been thrown instead of waved.
Blood hit the floor before she could lift her head.
It came from her mouth. A bright red line that started at her bottom lip where the inside had split against her own teeth from the force of the impact. The blood pooled on the stone under her face in a small, growing circle that caught the torchlight and turned it into something ugly.
She pushed herself up onto her hands and knees. Slowly. The movement was mechanical, the way a body moves when the brain is still rebooting and the muscles are running on whatever instructions were loaded before the crash.
Her cheekbone was already swelling. The bruise was forming in real time, purple spreading under golden skin like ink through water. Her lip was split deep enough that blood was running down her chin and dripping onto the stone between her hands in a rhythm that sounded like a clock counting seconds that nobody wanted to count.
Worse than Cassian.
The thought arrived with the clarity of a guillotine blade. Her brother had hit her. She remembered that, vaguely, the way you remember a bruise after it heals. It hurt. This was worse. This was full-strength dragon, a fist built for war aimed at a king.
She didn’t make a sound.
Her mouth was full of blood and her cheek was a pulsing, swelling wreck and she didn’t cry and she didn’t whimper and she didn’t say a single word because every voice she had was trapped behind the shock that was sitting on her chest like a stone slab.
The silence was louder than the hit.
Maddox’s arm was still extended.
His fist was still closed. His rotation was still complete. His body was still in the follow-through position of a man who had thrown the hardest punch of his life and it had landed in the worst possible place in the universe and his nervous system had frozen the frame so he could live inside this moment forever.
His eyes found her on the floor.
Blood on the stone. Her blood. Under her face. Coming from her mouth. Her cheekbone swelling purple under skin he had kissed thirty minutes ago. The same cheek his thumb had traced in the shower. The same jaw he had tilted up with gentle fingers so he could look into her eyes and tell her he loved her.
His fist opened.
His fingers spread. Each one peeling away from the palm with the slow, dissociative horror of a man watching his own body confess to something his brain had not authorized. The hand that had dried her hair. The hand that had tied her robe. The hand that had cupped her face on a marble counter while he said four words that had found their way home.
That hand had just put her on the floor.
