Chapter 48: Scaredy-shroom and the Lackey
Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Scaredy-shroom and the Lackey
Chen Shang stared at the other party expressionlessly, as if looking at a specimen on a dissection table.
"You were the one who released the plague, weren’t you? You’ve already violated the rules of the Pan-Wizard Alliance. Surrender now, and I can preserve your rights as a captive. Otherwise, you’ll just become another piece of material in my laboratory."
Marcus’s sulfur-colored vertical pupils dilated sharply, the dark gold flames within them leaping for a moment.
What was this petty lord talking about?
He was Marcus, the Lord of the Thirty-Seventh Layer of the Seventy-Two Layers of the Nether Realm! He once commanded a Demon Army of a hundred thousand and ruled over three layers of the Nether Realm!
How dare this ant, who wasn’t even on par with an Elite Level Demon, threaten him? And turn him into some laboratory material?
But those eyes made Marcus extremely uncomfortable. It was a scrutinizing gaze, as if putting a price tag on him.
How dare a mere ant look at him like that?
Marcus’s fury surged from his chest, but just as he was about to lash out, he suddenly noticed something strange.
The lord standing opposite him could communicate with him fluently?
"You can actually understand me, and even speak my language?" Marcus’s voice carried a trace of astonishment.
Chen Shang sighed. "So you’re just a country bumpkin with no experience in planar communication. This is called Language Mastery!"
The fact that the other party didn’t even know this meant that he most likely came from a single plane and had never communicated with the outside world. His value would have to be downgraded a tier.
Marcus understood that perfectly. This lord was calling him a bumpkin and saying he hadn’t seen the world.
Fury completely burned through his rationality. His body suddenly expanded, and a dark red aura erupted from him like a breaching tsunami. The sky was dyed dark red by his aura. The clouds were burning, and the air was filled with the stench of sulfur and charcoal.
He spread his tattered wings and lunged rapidly toward Chen Shang.
"Damn ant, how dare you mock the great Marcus! Go to hell!"
The seven-to-eight-meter-tall body pounced over, leaving a dark red trail in its wake. Chen Shang stood in place, expressionlessly watching the dark red storm crash toward him.
Then, the combat troops moved.
Five hundred silvery-white warriors simultaneously raised their long halberds. The blue energy patterns on the halberd blades shone with a blinding light. At this moment, Chen Shang’s will was the will of all his troops.
Form up, and besiege him!
Marcus crashed into the battle formation. The first row of long halberds thrust at his chest, but he swept them aside with a wave of his hand. Several warriors were sent flying, their silvery-white armor shattering in midair.
But the second row immediately filled the gap, and more long halberds thrust toward him from all directions.
He dashed left and right. His fists smashed the warriors’ heads, his sharp claws tore open their chests, and his broken horn sent them flying one after another. However, there were simply too many warriors, and they were completely fearless.
Chen Shang yanked the Space Book from his neck, releasing a large batch of Huluwas.
As the Da Was landed, their bodies rapidly grew taller. Their feet stomped the ground as they formed a circle. A metallic luster surfaced on the bodies of the Sanwas as they joined the siege.
The Siwas and Wuwas stood on the flanks, condensing crimson and pale blue orbs of light in their palms respectively, occasionally taking cheap shots at the demon.
Marcus rampaged through the formation, but a chill gradually rose in his heart. Where did these soldiers come from? It was as if they weren’t afraid of death at all! Moreover, why did they all obey that ant’s commands?
The Golden Crow flew in the air. It had just been shaken dizzy by the demon’s roar and was only now recovering its senses. Thus, it circled above the battlefield and started cursing at the top of its lungs.
"Ugly freak! Broken-horn monster! Tattered wings! You look like that and still dare to come out and scare people? If I were you, I’d be too embarrassed to keep living! That wing of yours..."
A torrent of free-flowing profanities smashed into the opponent, completely disregarding whether the demon could understand or not.
Marcus abruptly raised his head from within the crowd, his sulfur-colored eyes glaring fiercely at the Golden Crow. The pure killing intent caused the Golden Crow’s curses to get stuck in its throat. Its feathers fluffed up in sheer terror, and it hastily flew behind Chen Shang, not daring to look at the demon again.
Luna Xiya flew out from Chen Shang’s cloak and floated in the air. She looked at the battlefield with a face full of worry, her voice trembling.
"Chen Shang, let’s go back and call for reinforcements first. This guy looks really fierce."
Chen Shang was speechless. "Weren’t you pretty fierce when you fought me? Why are you chickening out now?"
Luna Xiya replied self-righteously, "Back then, it was to join the Pan-Wizard Alliance, so I had to fight even if it cost me my life. But right now, it’s not worth risking my life against him. Cultivation isn’t just about fighting and killing; taking a step back opens up a world of possibilities."
Chen Shang’s mouth twitched.
These two followers of his really had distinct personalities—one was a sycophant, and the other was a coward.
On the battlefield, Marcus had already broken free from many vines and tore open a gap in the battle formation. He had over a dozen new wounds on his body—some slashed by long halberds, others burned by fireballs. But those wounds were nothing more than mere scratches to him. His speed actually increased, and like an enraged wild bull, he charged straight toward Chen Shang.
Chen Shang sneered. He held back Ailarya, who was about to rush into the fray, and pulled his Wizard Identity Certificate from his pocket—the Crystal Card inlaid with the Eye of Truth Badge.
He held up the Crystal Card and declared loudly, "I, First Level Apprentice Chen Shang of the Starfall Laboratory, request to requisition a High Tower attack. The target... is this ugly bastard in front of me!"
Chen Shang pointed at the dark red storm hurtling toward him.
Marcus heard it. That petty lord was insulting him again.
The fury in his heart burned to its peak. Only one thought remained in his mind: rush over, tear that ant to pieces, and rip out his tongue so he could never utter another insult before he died.
The demon erupted with power, throwing off the siege. The Huluwas’ vines were snapped into inches by his tremendous power, and many warriors were swatted away.
Between him and Chen Shang, there were no longer any obstacles!
A cruel look appeared in the demon’s eyes. "Ant, what else can you do now?"
Chen Shang looked at him with pity. "I hope your body is sturdy enough. You’re worth far more alive than dead!"
Marcus didn’t understand. The ant in front of him was just inches away. He opened his mouth, ready to unleash a victorious roar.
In an instant, without any warning, a beam of light descended.
The High Tower’s attack had arrived—Chain Lightning!
The blue-and-white light exploded like ten thousand bolts of lightning striking all at once. This electrical net, composed of pure energy, shrouded Marcus from above.
In the first second, all of Marcus’s aura was scattered. In the second, the lightning drilled into his body, even striking that cracked Soul Core of his.
Marcus shrieked madly, his body rapidly shrinking as he tried to escape through the gaps in the lightning. However, the Chain Lightning shrank along with him!
The demon writhed left and right like a leech sprinkled with salt, yet he could never escape the range of the lightning. Finally, he solidified along with the shrinking electrical net, looking just like an insect sealed in amber!
The battlefield quieted down. The Golden Crow flew out from behind Chen Shang, planting a claw on the amber and saying smugly, "Ugly freak, you’ve finally fallen into my hands, haven’t you?"
Suddenly, the amber twitched due to Marcus’s struggle. The Golden Crow immediately jolted as if electrocuted, scrambling and tumbling back behind Chen Shang.
"Terrifying! He’s not dead yet?"
