Chapter 46: Other Plane Creatures? We’re Rich!
Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Other Plane Creatures? We’re Rich!
Hearing this, Chen Shang was filled with a profound sense of respect.
The Elf Mother Tree was indeed the origin of certain elves. As a type of World Tree, it possessed an incredibly high tier of life and was considered Elder Level within the Pan-Wizard Alliance.
Furthermore, its location was largely stationary, fixed in the space-time near the Truth Continent. He thought to himself that once his level was high enough, he would pay it a visit; perhaps he could even trigger some traits related to a Heaven and Earth Spirit Root.
Ailarya continued, "After the Wizards arrived, many things changed. We learned that our origin is the Elf Mother Tree, and those once lofty Divine Spirits... were merely creatures slightly more powerful than us.
"Some of the Divine Spirits voluntarily joined the Pan-Wizard Alliance, while others refused to give up the Power of Faith and waged war against the Wizards. The result..."
She paused, leaving the sentence unfinished. But Chen Shang understood; those who couldn’t gauge their own strength had essentially been reduced to materials or specimens for some Wizard.
Chen Shang crouched beside a patient and began to collect their life signatures on a large scale. Using his relevant traits to sense it briefly, he noticed a strange substance flowing within the patient’s body.
However, the scan wasn’t detailed enough. He stood up. "Where is the nearest High Tower?"
Ailarya froze for a moment. "A High Tower? The closest one is in the Northern Border Mountains."
"Alright, then we’re going to the Northern Border Mountains."
"There’s no Teleportation Array nearby. It will be faster if I fly you there."
Three hourglasses later.
Ailarya and Chen Shang arrived at the foot of the Northern Border Mountains.
The High Tower stood tall on a wasteland. It was entirely pitch-black, surrounded by a large number of stationed combat units resting nearby.
After Chen Shang revealed his identity, he proceeded unimpeded. He pushed the doors open and walked in. The entire High Tower was deathly silent; the stationed Wizards were likely all busy.
Not wanting to disturb anyone, he found an empty laboratory and began operating the equipment.
He injected the trace of abnormal energy extracted from the patient’s body into the machine’s sample slot and adjusted the parameters. The equipment quickly whirred to life. As sets of data popped up, Chen Shang recorded them while deep in thought.
The Golden Crow and Luna Xiya were long accustomed to Chen Shang’s working style. Ailarya, however, felt a bit out of her depth. This was her first time entering a High Tower. Watching Chen Shang tinker with the complex instruments, a sense of awe toward knowledge swelled in her heart.
Several hourglasses later, the machine extracted a cluster of dark red aura. It darted wildly around the sample slot, like a flying insect trapped in a glass jar.
Chen Shang stared at the dark red glow, his eyes brightening.
"We struck gold!"
The Golden Crow couldn’t hold back. "Struck what gold? Did you find a treasure? Where is it?"
Luna Xiya curiously poked her head over. "Why are we rich? Weren’t we just here to cure illnesses?"
Chen Shang reached out and extracted the dark red aura from the instrument, letting it writhe in the palm of his hand.
Unable to suppress the excitement in his tone, he explained to Ailarya, "This doesn’t belong to this Plane. This Plane’s Life Energy is supposed to be gentle, but this cluster is rotten and carries an aura of Destruction. It even has a strong stench of sulfur. It’s completely out of place in this Plane."
"I don’t quite understand. Do you mean this Plague is caused by a foreign creature?"
Chen Shang nodded. "Exactly. Any creature arriving in this world via the Teleportation Array would undergo a pathogen sterilization process. Furthermore, they would adhere to the rules of the Pan-Wizard Alliance. It’s impossible for anyone to release a Plague on such a massive scale."
The Golden Crow tilted his head. "An outside force? A stowaway?"
"It could be a Plane Rift, or it could be a stowaway. Regardless of what it is... finding the source behind it will definitely yield a massive payout. Wait here for a moment."
He turned around to report to the Plane Guardian. After waiting for quite a long time, a First Level Wizard finally emerged from a laboratory.
"Master, I have discovered traces of a creature from an Other Plane. According to the regulations, the first discoverer gets twenty percent of the profits... But I need the clearance and troops to track it down."
After reading the dense arrays of data on Chen Shang’s Crystal Plate, the Wizard clutched his forehead. "Just my luck. Why did I have to run into this kind of mess again..."
Then he waved his hand dismissively. "Clearance granted. Mobilize the troops as you see fit. If you find anything, report it to the Wizard World. Don’t bother me unless it’s an emergency."
With that, he turned back toward the laboratory.
"Wait, Master, this is your responsibility as a stationed Wizard..."
"I’m leaving it to you now, young man. I have high hopes for you!" the Wizard’s voice echoed from the laboratory doorway, followed by a loud BANG as the door slammed shut.
Chen Shang was left speechless. This feeling of being randomly conscripted was all too familiar.
However, he completely understood the other man’s mood. Being dragged out while deep in the middle of a personal experiment and not throwing a screaming fit meant the Wizard actually had a fairly good temper.
He let out a sigh, turned around, and walked out of the laboratory.
One hourglass later.
Chen Shang stood in front of the High Tower’s gates. Behind him stood five hundred artificial intelligent combat units in neat, orderly formations.
They were humanoid beings clad in silver-white armor. Beneath their helmets lay a stretch of smooth, featureless metal. In their hands, they held standardized Long Halberds, the blades of which rippled with light blue Energy patterns.
Unlike those from the First Plane War, these troops were mostly of the Fire Attribute, evidently evolved specifically to counter the plant and Wood Attributes of this world.
Ailarya returned, having changed into a set of light Leather Armor with a Rapier hanging at her waist. She looked less like a Governor and more like a Ranger.
"Lord Envoy, I am ready!"
Chen Shang cast a glance at her. "You are the Governor. You don’t need to go personally. I have enough combat troops."
"The Fanuodi Territory is under my jurisdiction. Those patients are my people. Besides, you are unfamiliar with the terrain here. I will lead the way."
It was obvious that Ailarya harbored a deep hatred for the source of the Plague.
Chen Shang didn’t refuse. He mounted one of the combat units and simultaneously released a few Eryas to scout ahead, leading the massive procession toward the Fanuodi Territory.
The Golden Crow perched on his shoulder, its three taloned feet gripping tightly, while Luna Xiya shrank into his collar, revealing only half of her cap.
"Chen Shang, what if the enemy is really strong? We should be more careful." Luna Xiya fully exposed her timid and fearful nature. Right now, her greatest wish was for Chen Shang to safely and steadily become a Wizard so he could provide her with an opportunity to evolve.
"It’s fine. These combat units aren’t pushovers, and I can mobilize the High Tower’s Energy..."
Meanwhile, deep within a forgotten ancient castle in the northern reaches of the Fanuodi Territory.
A pitch-black creature sat on a broken stone chair. His skin was dark red, and two curved horns grew from his head, one of which was snapped in half.
It was a Demon of unknown origin!
A massive scar stretched from his left shoulder to his chest. Its edges were charred black, while the center remained an open, writhing gash that slowly oozed blood.
He took a deep breath, his low, raspy voice echoing through the ancient castle. "What a beautiful world. What a wonderful scent of Plague.
"Damn that shameless Calonos! Once I ignite my Divine Fire, I will definitely seek my revenge!"
