Wizard: I Add Points and Hunt Monsters
Chapter 460 - 194: Fate Divination
"Director Amidich?"
The person who appeared on the communicator was none other than the Director of Intelligence for the Ghost Soul School, the Werewolf Amidich Fried.
"Team Leader Wei’en," Amiditch said in a level tone, "first of all, congratulations on successfully joining the Feng Enliso Research Center."
"Thank you."
’So serious?’
Wei’en studied the Werewolf Mage’s current expression and thought, ’This doesn’t look like he’s just calling to congratulate me.’
"The Ghost Soul School values its researchers far more than the other four major Wizard Schools. Getting in there will be a great benefit to your Wizard’s Path."
"Yes, I think so too."
"But at the same time," Amiditch’s wild, slitted pupils stared directly at the figure on the communicator, "I also hope you will take your role as the leader of the Shadow Special Intelligence Team seriously!"
’Just as I thought... I knew he wasn’t just calling to offer congratulations.’
Wei’en asked impassively, "I’m not sure what you’re referring to?"
"For example, the blessing ceremony in the X1087 Sea Region last night. For example, the Dawn Church’s Judgment Knight, Huberto Watson. And for another example, the Eternal Life Association and the Black Pearl..."
Amiditch bared his teeth in a wide grin, revealing two sharp canines. "Such a spectacular battle, and intelligence concerning one of our Ghost Soul’s very own Mutated Mages, yet I had to learn about it from Wizards of other schools... Tell me, doesn’t that make me, the Director of Intelligence, seem rather incompetent?"
"Ah, about that... that was my oversight." Wei’en rubbed his nose, finally understanding that the Director of Intelligence had specifically opened this channel to reprimand him.
"No, it was *my* oversight!" A hint of a smile appeared in Amiditch’s eyes. "When I appointed you as the leader of the Shadow Special Intelligence Team, I didn’t inform you of your related duties right away."
"..."
Wei’en felt even more embarrassed hearing this.
But putting himself in Amiditch’s shoes, if he were the Director of Intelligence and one of his subordinates had done something so significant, yet he had to find out about it from others...
That would certainly be an incredibly awkward situation.
"My apologies, Director Amidich."
"Team Leader Wei’en, you don’t need to apologize. You’re not at fault in this matter."
Amiditch raised a furry paw and waved it dismissively, then said with a very serious expression, "But I hope that from now on, you will pass any intelligence involving the Ghost Soul School to me at the earliest opportunity. Especially intelligence about killing members of the four great True God Churches or the Black Pearl pirates. Can you do that?"
"No problem." Wei’en nodded. "It is my duty as the leader of the Shadow Special Intelligence Team."
"Very good. Then we have an agreement. Of course, our intelligence department has a complete set of rules. You will be compensated accordingly for every piece of intelligence you submit. I believe you should have some understanding of this from your time as an Intelligence Officer in the Caster City State."
"Yes."
’Intelligence Officer...’
Wei’en recalled his miserable life as an Intelligence Officer and thought to himself, ’I hope the intelligence department doesn’t skimp on gold pounds like the Liaison Officer from the Shetland Kingdom did.’
"Well then, please submit a report on the events of last night. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?" A smile appeared on Amiditch’s face.
"All of it?"
The other parts were fine, but the matter concerning the transaction between the Eternal Life Association and the Black Pearl was not convenient to submit as intelligence.
"Just the intelligence regarding the Dawn Church is fine. I want to know the fate of that Dawn Believer who received the blessing. As for whether you’ve joined the Eternal Life Association or the Black Pearl, the School won’t pry."
’Won’t pry?’
Wei’en smiled knowingly. "I understand."
’They might not pry, but it’s still better not to report it if I can avoid it.’
"On this point, all Wizard Schools are the same," Amiditch said, his expression turning serious. "On the contrary, the School is quite happy to see Wizards go out and grow on their own."
"Oh? And why is that?"
"The reason is quite simple. The School’s resources are limited, and there are only so many positions in the Research Center. Given the long lifespans of Wizards—especially those who have transformed into undead—their development requires an enormous amount of resources. Even with the Ghost Soul’s profound foundation, it still can’t bear the full cost."
’So that’s how it is.’
Wei’en had a sudden realization. For a Wizard to advance, they not only needed knowledge but also had to conduct a great deal of related research to transform it into personal strength.
Take Shawa, for example.
Her studies on creating Mechanical Puppets require consuming large quantities of metal materials, and that’s just in the initial stages.
One can only imagine the resources required to cultivate an Official Mage, a Great Mage, and a Legendary Mage...
"Another point is that the School isn’t worried that Wizards joining other organizations will bring disaster. As long as it’s not an outright betrayal of the Ghost Soul, we generally don’t pay too much attention."
At this point, Amiditch paused and looked at Wei’en on the illusory screen. "But for an outstanding Wizard like you, the School will still maintain a necessary level of observation."
Wei’en gave a dry laugh. "Director, I’ll keep that in mind."
’A necessary level of observation?’
’Does that refer to intelligence gathering, and those letters he received when he advanced before?’
"Also," a flicker of a smile crossed Amiditch’s eyes, "since you’re the team leader, I can’t very well let you be a one-man team forever."
Wei’en raised an eyebrow. ’Is he going to assign members to my team?’
Uh, Feng Enliso had just prepared several researchers for him, and now the intelligence department was immediately arranging for members for his Shadow Action Team...
’Why does it feel like the intelligence department is competing with the Research Center?’
’Or perhaps, the Werewolf Director is competing with the Skeleton Dean?’
