Chapter 1458: Chapter 1458: Say Something to Make Him Give Up

Matthew Saxon has already been to the Simmons Family, so Hayes Simmons must have known about her departure from the Saxon Family.

She didn’t feel embarrassed about it, met his gaze calmly, and nodded: "Hmm."

"That’s good, that’s good..."

Hayes smiled, hesitated for a few seconds, opened his mouth as if to speak but stopped, and after a moment, finally said some things from his heart: "Scarlett, I know saying this might be a bit abrupt and somewhat impolite, but since it concerns Knox, I have to brace myself and ask a few questions."

As he spoke, he was gauging Scarlett Yates’s expression. Seeing no sign of displeasure, he felt relieved, pondered for a moment, and organized his thoughts before continuing: "I want to know what your view of Knox is, what kind of person do you think he is?"

Scarlett Yates isn’t foolish.

As soon as Hayes spoke, she understood the implication of his words.

She didn’t immediately answer him but lowered her head in thought for a moment before slowly saying, "In my eyes, he is a very warm-hearted, trustworthy friend."

"But... have you considered that his warmth and trustworthiness might not just be because he sees you as a friend?"

"I’ve known Knox since the day he was born, I’ve seen him grow up, and I wouldn’t say my understanding of him is much lesser than my own. While Knox has a lot of friends, there are very few for whom he would genuinely go out of his way to know and connect with deeply. Among those few, his connections with female friends are even rarer. At least, I’ve seldom seen it."

"The women around him mostly share one type of relationship, purely as friends, almost none, save for Jewel. I’ve never seen him so interested in anyone else, he genuinely cares for Jewel because she’s his biological sister. But he cares for you because he truly likes you."

At this point, Hayes stopped, simply looked at Scarlett Yates, but said no more.

There was a hint of difficulty on his face, a trace of hesitation in his eyes. It’s easy to imagine the following words must be hard to say, yet he had to, which made him so hesitant.

But despite the difficulty, he had already resolved to say it when he initiated this conversation with her.

Therefore, Scarlett Yates remained silent, quietly waiting for him to continue.

Moments later, Hayes let out a long sigh, with a tone tinged with apology, he said: "Scarlett, I know you only have Matthew in your heart, you really only see Knox as a friend, but he doesn’t see it that way. Do you know what he told me today?"

"He said he truly likes you, he wants to pursue you, and he wants to marry you."

"He’s practically lost his mind, Matthew has been his closest friend since childhood, yet for you, he even disregards the friendship between them. Not to mention whether he’s being one-sided or not, the fact that he has such thoughts shows he has genuine feelings for you."

He reasoned emotionally and logically: "If you see him only as a friend, I hope you can say some words to dissuade him, to cut off some notions he shouldn’t have. I believe you wouldn’t want to see him suffer continuously either, right? Even though it might hurt him now, but better a short pain than a long one, it’s better for him to give up sooner than to sink deeper, don’t you think this makes sense?"
