Wilderness Survival with Druid System
Chapter 1061 - 80: Abundant Prey
This makes a big difference!
Chen Wen didn’t say much, he just picked up the moose antlers.
He continued searching for traces of predators around him.
Eventually, he found another deep footprint.
But the footprint seemed to be left when the creature made a sharp turn, with the dirt around it turned over due to the forceful movement, so there wasn’t much reference value.
However, judging from the size of the footprint, it shouldn’t be a large brown bear.
After getting a good look at the traces, Chen Wen left the forest with the antlers.
Outside.
Seeing Chen Wen coming out safely, Hua Yun also breathed a sigh of relief.
However, she was puzzled as she looked at the moose antlers Chen Wen was holding.
"What is this?"
Chen Wen raised the antlers for Hua Yun to see closely.
Hua Yun exclaimed in surprise: "Moose? Where did you find this?"
"Right inside the forest."
Chen Wen replied, displaying the broken part, "It’s still fresh!"
Upon hearing this, Hua Yun hurried over to Chen Wen and examined the antlers carefully.
Soon, she smiled: "Good stuff! Fresh moose antlers, you’re really lucky!"
The golden eagle, seeing Hua Yun’s happy expression, was puzzled.
"What use is fresh antlers anyway?"
The golden eagle asked.
Chen Wen thought for a moment, and while Hua Yun was observing the antlers, he took the golden eagle over to the sled under the guise of getting a drink, and explained: "Fresh antlers indicate there are moose around, and at least one is a male. Male moose are very large, you’re familiar with Da Bai, aren’t you? Da Bai is a male moose."
Da Bai, the albino moose Chen Wen tamed near Great Slave Lake.
The golden eagle understood upon hearing this.
"You plan to hunt moose?"
Chen Wen nodded: "Definitely. If we can hunt a mature male moose, we can basically go back to rest right away, with plenty of prey for a long time. Plus, moose antlers and hide can be exchanged for plenty of food."
The golden eagle fully understood now.
It excitedly said: "In that case, shall I go find the moose?"
Chen Wen thought for a moment, then replied: "Not yet, wait for my instructions, I still have some concerns right now."
As he spoke, Chen Wen seemed to remember something.
He asked about the location where the golden eagle last saw the Northeast Tiger.
Upon learning it was near a stream to the northwest, far from here, Chen Wen relaxed.
He preferred facing a brown bear rather than confronting a Northeast Tiger that had escaped captivity.
Given the Northeast Tiger’s agility, it’s quite daunting.
Chen Wen was aiming to complete survival training unscathed, so he was cautious with injury risks.
Since it was confirmed to be a brown bear here, Chen Wen returned to Hua Yun to share what he had discovered.
After hearing the predator was very likely a young brown bear.
Hua Yun was tempted too.
The reason was simple, the resources here were extremely rich!
Two large groups of Siberian Roe Deer, one young brown bear, and at least one, if not a whole family, of moose.
If half of these prey can be hunted, combined with the wild boar hunted previously, their expedition task would be overfulfilled!
Given such profits, the risk from a young brown bear was negligible.
The two changed their plan again.
No longer leaving!
Chen Wen unloaded the supplies from the sled, while Hua Yun entered the forest to cut down some small trees to set up camp.
It wasn’t noon yet.
At a relatively open high ground beside Lake Baikal, Hua Yun had already established a temporary camp.
Chen Wen also lit the campfire.
He brazenly skinned, gutted, and cleaned the pika caught that morning by the lake.
Then skewered it on sticks and roasted it over the fire.
Having confirmed it was a young brown bear, Chen Wen felt completely relaxed.
If the brown bear dares to come out...
Chen Wen thought as he noticed the golden eagle had already eaten.
It doesn’t eat cooked meat, so as Chen Wen was cleaning the pika, it started its lunch.
After finishing its meal, the golden eagle immediately reported to Chen Wen.
It planned to hover over the forest and scout for the moose herd and the young brown bear.
Chen Wen considered it and confidently allowed the golden eagle to go ahead.
Once the golden eagle left, Chen Wen asked Hua Yun to watch the food, while he squinted his eyes and used [Shared Vision] to check on the golden eagle’s situation.
The golden eagle flew at a leisurely pace since it was on a reconnaissance mission.
This allowed Chen Wen to easily observe the state of the forest.
It didn’t take long before Chen Wen saw a Siberian Roe Deer resting in an open area.
The golden eagle seemed interested in it and deliberately flew lower to inspect the Siberian Roe Deer.
But upon flying closer, the golden eagle noticed something unexpected.
Chen Wen saw it too.
The Siberian Roe Deer was injured, with wounds at its rear still bleeding.
It seemed like this unfortunate creature was the one hunted by the young brown bear.
The golden eagle thought it over and didn’t linger too long.
It flapped its wings and continued its reconnaissance.
After a few more minutes, on a flat hilltop, the golden eagle spotted the brown bear!
It matched Chen Wen’s judgment, a young brown bear—likely just recently matured, possibly its first year without its mother.
Quite young indeed.
The wild pig was probably scavenged food, carrion it consumed, since with its youth, catching such prey would be nearly impossible.
This brown bear’s perception ability was fairly keen.
It quickly noticed the golden eagle.
But the brown bear was lazy, showing no concern as the golden eagle circled above its head.
As the golden eagle lingered longer, it became slightly impatient and raised its head, growling twice toward the golden eagle.
The golden eagle didn’t linger further, flapped its wings intending to find out where the moose were.
Through [Shared Vision], Chen Wen observed the brown bear’s actions thoroughly.
This creature was indeed an inexperienced young brown bear, posing less of a threat to Chen Wen than a mature wild boar.
Finding an opportunity to ambush and kill it would make this area their hunting ground!
Chen Wen imagined this, feeling a surge of excitement.
At that moment, northeast from the brown bear, the golden eagle discovered a family of moose resting at a clearing in the forest.
In total, three moose, appearing to be a young family.
The male moose was missing an antler, presumably the one that lost the antler.
Chen Wen memorized the moose’s location.
Their perception abilities were decent; the male moose kept vigilantly looking at the golden eagle after a short while.
The golden eagle paused for a bit and promptly departed, intending to return.
Chen Wen withdrew his gaze.
Simultaneously, he felt completely assured!
This hunt was guaranteed to succeed!
