Wilderness Survival with Druid System
Chapter 1055 - 74: Adam and Gaston in Shock
"Oh my gosh! What is this..."
Adam stood with his mouth agape, looking at Chen Wen dragging four wild boars on the sled.
Two big ones, two small ones.
Adam immediately froze in place.
Did Chen Wen just raid a wild boar nest?
But the thing that shocked Adam even more was yet to come.
When Hua Yun walked out of the woods, his jaw almost dislocated.
Hua Yun’s sled had a whole big wild boar, the largest one, and two young boars as well.
Seven wild boars!
Isn’t this practically a small boar community here?
My God!
Adam walked over to Chen Wen, not bothering to say much, and simply helped Chen Wen transport the sled back to camp.
After Chen Wen sat down, Adam finally asked, "What on earth happened here?"
"Don’t even bring it up!"
Chen Wen slapped his thigh with some annoyance and said, "We hadn’t gone very far when we encountered a herd of wild boars. There were so many, a dozen or so. We thought we’d deal with this herd first before anything else."
"We had initially planned well; we set traps to injure as many as possible, and then surround them for a total hunt. But who would have thought, my traps caught three out of four!"
Speaking of this, Chen Wen slapped his thigh again, in a regretful tone, "Oh, if I had known, I would have set fewer traps! If the traps weren’t so many, how could these wild boars get so scared, and migrate away directly?"
Listening to Chen Wen’s words, Adam’s expression became increasingly odd.
Isn’t this some kind of Versailles bragging?
This is definitely Versailles bragging!
Hua Yun couldn’t listen any longer, and she couldn’t help but cough slightly, "Get to the point!"
Chen Wen laughed sheepishly and continued, "Anyway, because my traps were a bit too successful, the wild boars got scared and fled. I found them through Golden Eagle, and had Golden Eagle notify Hua Yun. We planned to catch up and slaughter them, but a little situation arose along the way, and in the end, we only had time to kill the big ones while many small ones ran away."
Hearing this, Adam grinned widely.
Wow, the hunting efficiency of these two is truly high!
How long were they out?
More than two days?
Adam shook his head, "You guys really... exceeded mine and Gaston’s expectations. We both thought you wouldn’t get much food out this trip, who knew..."
Chen Wen chuckled, "I also didn’t expect to come across such a big herd of wild boars; now, these wild boars are yours and Gaston’s."
Adam’s face turned green at this remark.
Chen Wen patted his shoulder and said with deep meaning, "To properly preserve these catches, we need someone meticulous and skilled at handling them, and after a lot of thinking, that’s you, Adam..."
Adam raised his hand to interrupt Chen Wen, helplessly saying, "Alright, alright, no need to say any more, I’ll do it."
Given that this task isn’t something Chen Wen and the others can manage.
Seeing that Chen Wen and the others didn’t bring back supplies, Adam understood their intention.
Thus, cleaning these wild boars and smoking their meat became Adam’s task.
No, Gaston too.
Adam had an idea to have Gaston help him share part of this work.
Since the catch from fishing wouldn’t likely be as abundant as Chen Wen’s hunting, he might as well have Gaston help at camp.
Chen Wen sat at the camp, feeling quite sentimental.
He said to Hua Yun nearby, "Let’s not travel anymore today, let’s rest well and move tomorrow."
Hua Yun nodded slightly.
Her stamina was already nearly depleted; heading out further wouldn’t be sustainable.
Seeing the two so exhausted, Adam took on the duty of caring for them.
He boiled water and selected some of the better parts of the wild boar meat, washed them, cut them into chunks, and skewered them on sticks.
Once the meat was skewered, Adam started grilling it over the fire.
At the same time, he took out the fish Gaston caught earlier and said to Chen Wen, "These are the fish Gaston brought back at noon, seemingly a variety we haven’t eaten before. How about I make a pot of fish soup?"
Hearing this, Chen Wen raised an eyebrow.
He looked at the fish Adam held; since it had already been processed, Chen Wen couldn’t tell the exact type, only that it resembled some kind of salmon.
"Is it tasty?"
Chen Wen asked.
Adam shook his head, "This is the first time he’s caught anything other than anise fish, so I have no idea how it tastes."
Since that’s the case...
Chen Wen waved his hand decisively, "Let’s stew it!"
...
Before long, Gaston also returned to camp carrying two fish.
Seeing Chen Wen, he showed a similarly bewildered expression.
But when he saw the pile of wild boars next to the camp, Gaston’s jaw nearly hit the ground.
"No way!"
Gaston exclaimed in shock, "Where did you guys get so many wild boars?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Wen pulled Gaston over with a bright smile and began to lament, making Gaston’s expression as if he’d swallowed a fly.
In the end, Gaston commented, "Amazing! I thought you’d only return after several days and bring back little, but now it seems..."
However, Gaston soon noticed that Chen Wen and the others hadn’t brought back supplies.
He inquired carefully and learned that Chen Wen and the others would continue hunting, and he couldn’t help but silently pray for the forest’s wild boars.
Hope the boars would be okay.
Nevertheless, Gaston still hoped Chen Wen and the others would bring back more catches.
Everyone chatted and laughed, and soon dinner was ready.
Fish soup, grilled wild boar meat, accompanied by a can of fruit preserves, and two or three roasted potatoes.
The dinner tonight was quite to Chen Wen’s liking.
He sprinkled some seasoning on the potatoes, and the taste was quite nice.
Chen Wen picked up a bowl of fish soup and used chopsticks to lift a piece of fish, putting it into his mouth.
"Hmm?"
Chen Wen looked at the bowl of fish soup in surprise and couldn’t help saying, "This fish... the flavor is actually pretty good! What kind of salmon is this?"
Upon hearing this, Gaston chuckled, "Talking about Lake Baikal, what do you think is the most famous salmon in this lake?"
Without hesitation, Chen Wen replied, "Needless to say, the most famous one is the autumn white salmon!"
The autumn white salmon, the most important economic fish species in Lake Baikal, known as the "humped white salmon."
As a typical cold-water fish, it takes about ten years for an autumn white salmon to grow to a pound!
Thus, the autumn white salmon has exceedingly firm meat and an excellent flavor.
Chen Wen hadn’t initially thought of autumn white salmon because this fish was quite large, appearing to weigh three to four pounds, so he first thought of other salmon species.
After all, now at Lake Baikal, although the autumn white salmon numbers are high, they are mostly small fish, and a specimen this large is extremely rare!
