Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?

Chapter 301 - 300: Getting the Certificates

  • Next Chapter

The Alliance has no power to compel any planet, especially major ones like the Imperial Capital Star and Emperor Wolf Star.

Not to mention, both Emperor Wolf Star and the Imperial Capital Star have veto power.

Whether it’s the Imperial Capital Star or Emperor Wolf Star, they can directly veto any resolution for sanctions or condemnations against them.

No matter how angry the Alliance gets, there’s nothing it can do.

Pei Yin chimed in, "Other planets are afraid of getting caught in the crossfire, and the price for a direct military intervention from the Imperial Capital Star would be steep."

Besides, Emperor Wolf Star has many allies.

Strength is what ultimately matters. Justice and morality are often just hypocritical lip service.

Every planet has its own interests to look out for.

"Emperor Wolf Star often opposes the Imperial Capital Star, but the Imperial Capital Star is also a major planet with a rigid noble class. Why would they go to war with Emperor Wolf Star over some commoners?"

Pei Yin spread his hands. "They’re not idiots. Would they really just stand by and watch their own resources, energy, and economy collapse?"

Xi Yu’s tone was somber. "If anyone really tried to intervene, it would turn into an interstellar war."

’Great analysis. Don’t do it again.’

Jian Yu frowned. "So, we’re just letting the matter of Yan Tianba colluding with the Soul Ghost Body go?"

Her gaze swept over everyone in the room. "You got the evidence, but you don’t dare to act on it. Didn’t you all get hurt for nothing?"

Xi Yu said quietly, "Ow."

Jian Yu: "..."

Jian Yu was silent for a moment. "Now I think Yan Tianba had a point. The Alliance really does treat you all poorly."

Ling Yanzhi scoffed. "We don’t care about their scraps of goodwill. Everything we have now, we fought for ourselves. And the things they didn’t give us, we didn’t want anyway."

The Alliance is essentially a neutral party. It doesn’t support any side, nor does it oppose any side.

Ling Yanzhi and the others are on the side of the nobles. Even if their goal aligns with Yan Tianba’s, they can only push things forward from the shadows.

Only nobles can have Awakened Soul Beasts, which is why they voluntarily remain at Weis Lan Noble Academy.

Ling Yanzhi sat with one leg bent, his fingers tapping lightly on his knee.

His tone was arrogant, and a hint of ferocity crept into his refined, deep-set eyes.

"No one can afford the consequences of a direct conflict between the two major planets, but that doesn’t mean the Imperial Capital Star has to just sit back and take a beating."

"A fight between the Imperial Capital Star and Emperor Wolf Star is, in essence, about who has the bigger fist. All that talk about justice and rules is just lip service from the Alliance."

"Once I’ve recovered, I don’t care what the Alliance’s attitude is. I’ll go collect the debt myself. It’s survival of the fittest; there’s no need for so much pointless reasoning."

’They’ve already come after us. Am I supposed to wrong myself for the sake of others?’

Jian Yu couldn’t support Xi Yu’s overwhelming weight.

Her hand gripping the bed rail loosened, and her entire body tilted toward Ling Yanzhi.

"..."

Ling Yanzhi’s tone faltered, and he lifted his eyes. "Ayue."

Xi Yu paused, then silently sat up straight.

Pei Yin snapped back to reality, pulling his thoughts away from Ling Yanzhi’s arrogant speech.

His gaze focused, and he couldn’t bear to look at the disheveled group in front of him. "Look at the sorry state you’re in. Heal up before you start making grand pronouncements. You two little pieces of trash."

Ling Yanzhi: "..."

Xi Yu hugged his cabbage dog tightly.

Pei Yin put on a white lab coat and strode toward the experiment bench.

He muttered to himself, "Those people already have the core data, so why drag me into this mess? It’s baffling. Should I pretend I don’t know, or should I pretend I don’t know?"

Xi Yu suddenly replied, "Maybe the after-effects of the experiment are too severe, and they think you can solve it."

An idea sparked in Pei Yin’s mind. "I’d also like to see if I can solve it."

He turned his head, finally noticing that someone was missing. "Where did Sheng Yue go?"

Xi Yu’s eyes were unfocused. "He was gone when I woke up."

Ling Yanzhi yawned. "He went to find Ji Shiyin. He’s bringing Zhao Jiangyou back, too."

Pei Yin looked at the two patients. They were a sight so pitiful even a dog would shake its head.

His gaze fell on Ling Yanzhi. "Help me hack into the research institute. See if you can find anything about Experiment X."

"Fine." Ling Yanzhi lazily opened his Star Brain.

Jian Yu sat down next to him, blinking and smiling.

Her beautiful, large eyes seemed to be glistening with moisture, dewy and wet, giving her an air of delicate fragility.

Ling Yanzhi’s throat tightened, and he felt a tickle of desire.

He turned to his side, reached out, and pulled her onto his lap.

Jian Yu didn’t panic. She calmly shifted her position to find a comfortable spot.

Xi Yu scooted over, grabbed her ankle, and rested his head sideways on Jian Yu’s lap.

A glint flashed in his eyes, revealing a dark expression.

His baser male instincts surfaced. Ling Yanzhi raised an eyebrow. "Let me have a kiss?"

Jian Yu pursed her lips, her eyes widening slightly.

’If you want to kiss me, just kiss me. It’s not like I’m going to resist.’

Jian Yu wasn’t short, but sitting on his lap, she still seemed rather petite.

Ling Yanzhi hugged her closer, feeling as if he could completely envelop her in his arms.

His gaze swept past Jian Yu’s face, slowly moving to her long, straight legs as she sat sideways on him.

He noticed Jian Yu’s eyes kept stealing glances at his abdomen, and her gaze also lingered on the collar around his neck.

Ling Yanzhi reached up and tugged on the collar, adjusting its width.

He took Jian Yu’s hand and guided her fingers under the collar, a roguishly handsome smile spreading across his face.

Jian Yu grew flustered, her eyes darting away.

She admitted that she had initially intended to use Ling Yanzhi and the others.

Before she transmigrated, Ling Yanzhi had been her least favorite of the seven male leads.

But at this moment, she suddenly realized that the one she most wanted to marry was Ling Yanzhi.

Jian Yu pressed her lips to the corner of his mouth, cleared her throat, and asked, "Want to get married?"

Ling Yanzhi was stunned for a moment.

A rare look of bewilderment appeared on his face.

Ling Yanzhi’s mouth moved, but his throat felt as if it were stuffed with cotton, and he couldn’t get the words out.

He nodded, his eyes filled with a smile. "Yeah."

Pei Yin kept his head down, his fingers repeating the same motion.

Seeing that Jian Yu only had eyes for Ling Yanzhi, his heart filled with a sour, bitter feeling, mixed with a great deal of envy and jealousy.

’If only I had stood firmly by Jian Yu’s side from the beginning like Ling Yanzhi did. If only I hadn’t wanted to research her. If only I had been in time...’

Pei Yin drily and mechanically repeated the same sample test.

He didn’t want to look at the two people opposite him. They seemed like they were born to be a couple, unlike him. No matter what he said, it seemed he couldn’t earn a single, genuine smile from Jian Yu.

Xi Yu asked coolly, "Why didn’t you ask me? You’re getting married and not including me, Babe?"

Pei Yin’s own feelings of grievance were completely shattered by Xi Yu’s even more aggrieved voice.

Xi Yu had been doted on by his parents and had never experienced any setbacks or hardships growing up.

Tears welled up in his eyes. "I really, really like you, Babe..."

The corner of Pei Yin’s mouth twitched. "So dramatic!"

Jian Yu reached her hand out to Xi Yu and, steeling herself to be a complete scumbag, said, "We can do it together."

Xi Yu took her hand, lowered his head, and took a deep breath of her scent, finally feeling a bit revived.

’Babe asked him to join too. Nothing else mattered anymore.’

Xi Yu was conflicted for only three seconds before he managed to cheer himself up.

Ling Yanzhi wrapped one arm around Jian Yu’s shoulder, pulling her even closer into his embrace.

He lowered his eyelashes, hiding the possessiveness and aggression in his eyes.

He said in a lazy tone, "Tomorrow is an auspicious day for a wedding."

Pei Yin cut in, afraid of being forgotten, "Get the others, too! Sheng Yue and Little Yan! Don’t leave anyone out. If we’re getting married, then everyone should get their certificate!"

He didn’t mention himself, but every word he spoke included him.
