Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?

Chapter 295 - 294: Generous Pei Yin

Pei Yin neatened his sleeves, rolling them up bit by bit to his forearms.

Ting Ying hovered high in the air inside the high-ceilinged laboratory, the sound of its wings flapping—FLAP FLAP FLAP—exceptionally clear.

With a press of its long talons, it opened the invisible barrier of the inner door.

Pei Yin glanced at Jian Yu, then awkwardly looked away.

After a few seconds of silence, he spoke, feigning nonchalance. "The fewer people who know they’re injured and unconscious, the better. I’ll be in Room 2 next door. If you want to see me, just come over."

Jian Yu nodded. "Okay."

Pei Yin lingered for a moment. "A patient should get more rest, so you should just..."

Meeting Jian Yu’s blank gaze, Pei Yin backtracked, adopting a vulnerable tone. "We haven’t seen each other for so many days. Don’t you want to keep me company and come with me?"

Jian Yu’s eyes flickered toward Xi Yu. She couldn’t just push him away.

She whispered, "You go first. I’ll be there in a bit."

Pei Yin knew he shouldn’t be getting emotional at a time like this, but he still felt inexplicably neglected.

He was young, after all, and his emotions were written all over his face.

Anyone who wasn’t blind could see the dejection in Pei Yin’s expression.

Looking at the unmoving Pei Yin, Jian Yu was reminded of the Lulu Meat that Wang Hu and Zhang Qin had grilled for her at the Ultimate Eye.

At the time, she had thought that Shen Gu was also a first-year student and probably wouldn’t have a chance to go out on missions anytime soon, so she brought back a few grilled drumsticks for him to try.

Now... she’d just have to see if she could order some Lulu drumsticks for Shen Gu online.

Jian Yu took out a container, her voice taking on a coaxing tone. "Want some? I brought it back especially for you."

’She brought this back just for me?’

An unnatural blush crept onto Pei Yin’s face.

Xi Yu suddenly looked up. "I’ll have some."

Pei Yin strode over, grinding his teeth, and smacked him on the forehead. "My treasure was asking *me* if I wanted any. What’s it got to do with you? Go chew on your apple."

He quickly snatched the box from Jian Yu’s hands and protectively put it behind his back. "Good, I didn’t eat enough for lunch."

Xi Yu flopped back onto Jian Yu’s lap. "I’m dizzy."

Pei Yin’s lips trembled. "Are you trying to scam me? I barely used any force!"

Xi Yu pressed his lips together, his eyelids drooping dejectedly.

As he rested his head on Jian Yu’s lap, the soft flesh of his cheeks was squished into a slight, rounded curve.

Jian Yu felt Xi Yu’s forehead. "Could he have a concussion?"

Just as Pei Yin was starting to wonder if he really had hit him too hard...

Xi Yu gave himself away by pulling Jian Yu to lie down on the bed. "Baby, let’s sleep."

Pei Yin scoffed. "Hah."

’He had to be kidding me.’

Out of sight, out of mind.

He placed the pair of eyeballs in a medical container and went to the adjacent lab by himself.

Jian Yu’s leg had gone numb.

She offered little resistance as she lay down on the bed, nestled in Xi Yu’s arms.

She lowered her head, her fair, pretty face framed by long, half-lowered lashes that fluttered like two little fans.

"Baby, so cute." Xi Yu hugged her tighter, two flushes of red appearing on his cheeks, likely from excitement.

"I like you so much, baby."

He leaned in and pecked Jian Yu’s lips a couple of times. "Baby, why aren’t you wearing the little dress I bought you today?"

Jian Yu glanced down at the skort she was wearing. "This is more convenient."

Xi Yu’s lips formed a pout. "Little Eagle has terrible taste."

Jian Yu almost laughed.

’Now he’s bringing taste into it.’

While she wasn’t paying attention, Xi Yu leaned over and pressed his body against hers, kissing her.

He rarely acted on impulse.

But everything he did with Jian Yu seemed to begin with an impulse.

Xi Yu’s eyes glazed over. The long kiss made his consciousness gradually fade.

In a daze, he felt as if he had returned to the first time he heard Jian Yu’s name from Pei Yin.

The long wait and surveillance had only heightened his anticipation and excitement.

His barren mind was bombarded by a few repeating words: ’Cute, like her, so soft, want to keep her...’

When Jian Yu had been kissed enough, she pushed him away. "Mmmph."

Xi Yu let her go.

His fingers caressed Jian Yu’s face, his breathing heavy.

After the long, lingering kiss ended, a hint of red colored the rims of Jian Yu’s eyes.

She blinked, her long lashes now damp, her exquisite face carrying a lingering, cool aloofness.

After the kiss, Xi Yu’s own head felt dizzy.

A mist clouded his tea-brown eyes, making them look moist. His mouth, however, relentlessly continued its questioning. "Baby, did you miss me these past few days?"

"I did." Jian Yu lifted her gaze, and the first thing she saw was his incredibly distinct collarbone—slender, delicate, and even a little sexy.

Her eyes moved up to Xi Yu’s face. His lips and earlobes were red, yet his handsome face was a sickly white.

"Baby, they cut in line," Xi Yu’s voice grew softer and softer.

His head drooped, his eyelids growing heavier, and he slowly closed his eyes.

The atmosphere fell silent, so quiet that only the sound of his steady breathing could be heard.

Jian Yu gave him a large stuffed animal to hold and carefully slid off the bed.

She locked the door, closed the skylight, and tiptoed out.

"Hey, over here, over here!" Gu Qi sat up happily and greeted Jian Yu.

Pei Yin’s brow furrowed.

His hands paused, but he forced himself to suppress his temper.

’A fan. This is my one and only fan. I can’t scare him away.’

Lin Yu offered a smiling reminder.

"Student Gu Qi, please lie down."

"Student Gu Qi, please don’t look around."

"Student Gu Qi, please close your eyes."

"Student Gu Qi, please..."

Pei Yin cut him off impatiently. "That’s enough. Are you training a dog?"

Lin Yu’s smile didn’t falter. He folded his hands in front of him and stood quietly to the side.

Gu Qi: "..."

He was suddenly a little panicked, and also mortified.

Jian Yu had been here for check-ups many times and knew the procedures well.

She walked over to Pei Yin and quietly reassured Gu Qi, "Just pretend you’re going to sleep. Don’t move around."

Lin Yu said with a smile, "That’s right, Student Gu Qi. You need to sleep a bit more serenely. That way, the check-up can be over in two minutes."

He lifted his wrist and checked the time on his Star Brain. "You’ve already wasted twelve minutes."

"I’m sorry." Gu Qi squeezed his eyes shut.

The machine whirred to life, and Pei Yin began adjusting the data.

Jian Yu couldn’t understand what he was doing, only that his fingers never stopped moving, adding and subtracting things.

Two minutes later, Gu Qi climbed out of the medical examination pod.

Pei Yin took out the blood-drawing equipment.

He shot a complicated look at Jian Yu, then, for once, actually followed procedure and kindly asked Gu Qi, "Judging from the examination, you shouldn’t have any blood-clotting issues."

Gu Qi nodded vigorously. "That’s right, no issues."

Having learned his lesson, Pei Yin explained in painstaking detail, "I’m going to draw two vials first, 2ml each. Is that okay?"

Gu Qi replied, "Chief Pei, draw as much as you want, go right ahead! I’m in great shape!"

It was the first time Pei Yin had ever met someone so cooperative.

His mood improved, and he asked casually, "What kind of mechanical eye would you want?"

Gu Qi’s eyes widened in horror. "You... you want to take my eyes?"

Jian Yu: "..."

Pei Yin took Yan Mingjiao’s eyeballs to be tested.

He also extracted the contents of one of the Poison Needles and placed it in another machine for analysis.

Gu Qi looked up just in time to see Pei Yin pick up an eyeball with a pair of forceps.

He swallowed nervously. "Is it possible not to take out my eyes?"

Pei Yin pulled off his gloves, his beautifully long fingers rotating slightly.

He set out rows and rows of eyes floating in jars of solution.

Pei Yin was very generous. "If you don’t like mechanical eyes, I have plenty of beast eyes here. The highest is Level 2S. Seeing as... well, anyway, you can pick any of these."
