Why Are the Psychos Obsessed with a Mere NPC?
Chapter 283 - 282
Jian Yu suddenly thought, ’Being virtuous is hard.’Si Yan’s death didn’t affect her much. In fact, it left her feeling gratified and relieved.Jian Yu was certain that as long as Si Yan was alive, the woman would have spent every single day plotting how to kill her.Jian Yu’s brow furrowed. She realized her mindset had shifted dramatically.First, she’d been glad to have two lives, not caring if she died since she could always return to her own time. But now... now she thought staying here wasn’t so bad. It was no big deal for the strong to kill someone. Her own comfort and safety were what mattered most. Her vision suddenly went dark. Jian Yu’s lashes fluttered. "What are you doing?"Pei Yin was covering her eyes. "Don’t look if the sight of blood makes you dizzy. Someone will be here to clean it up soon."Jian Yu turned her head away. "I’m not squeamish about blood.""Then you’re just in a bad mood." Pei Yin’s fingers curled slightly. The palm of his hand tickled. He said, a sour note in his voice, "Si Yan was always the one deluding herself. Ling Gou never once responded to her advances."Jian Yu gave him a strange look. "I know."Pei Yin looked away, his expression wounded. "Good, as long as there’s no misunderstanding."Ting Ying circled once before swooping down to pick up a pearl in its beak.Pei Yin put away the one he was holding and held out his hand.Ting Ying opened its beak. The pearl dropped into Pei Yin’s palm.Pei Yin examined it. "This one’s beautiful."It was large, round, and lustrous.Jian Yu looked at his reddened, teary eyes and nodded repeatedly like a little chick pecking at grain. "Mhm, mhm."Pei Yin’s mood brightened. "I’ll see if I can find any other fun toys for you."The ground was littered with treasures, but Pei Yin only picked up three items that interested him.The feather was useless now, but he still held it, studying it for a long time.Pei Yin looked at Si Xu. "Your Feather Clan’s High Priest really spoiled her, giving her so many life-saving tools."Si Xu landed, his feet touching down on a path paved with jade as he slowly walked over."Feel free to pick a few more if you like them."Several Yuge materialized behind him and began picking up the items Si Yan had dropped."Forget it. I couldn’t use them even if you gave them to me. Your Feather Clan’s artifacts won’t obey me." Pei Yin toyed with the Breath Holding Pearl in his hand.He pressed it into Jian Yu’s hand. "We can’t activate the other items, but you can play with this."Pei Yin took one of her fingers and wiggled it. "Just infuse it with a little Soul Power to use it. Perfect for a game of hide-and-seek."Jian Yu lowered her gaze and pressed her lips together, squeezing the pearl between her fingers. It felt soft to the touch. It was a little stress-relieving.Her eyes lit up. "Thank you."Pei Yin gazed at her curled lashes, his heart melting the longer he looked. "I’m glad you like it."Si Xu’s gaze fell upon Jian Yu.He stared at her for several seconds before his gaze shifted to Pei Yin’s ever-brightening smile. He snorted. "Gifting something that isn’t yours. How generous."Pei Yin pursed his lips. "Finders keepers."He changed the subject. "I thought you were going to keep Si Yan as a hostage."After he finished talking with Duan Feiye, he had rushed out of the school that very night to capture Si Yan.He’d searched for ages but couldn’t find her. He’d almost found her twice, but her trail went cold in the blink of an eye."She was supposed to be a hostage," Si Xu said, his gaze flat as he looked at the pool of blood on the ground. "Si Wang never verified the situation."The moment he heard Si Yan was in my hands, all the fight went out of him.Si Wang had tried to contact Si Yan countless times in secret, sending signals every single day.If Si Yan had just sent a single message to her old man before today to say she was safe, Si Wang wouldn’t have given up so easily. Now that his revenge was complete, Si Xu didn’t actually feel much joy. The dead couldn’t be brought back to life. He simply considered it settling an old score.Pei Yin was silent for a moment. "The father is just like the daughter."Jian Yu looked up at him.’That’s an even deadlier insult,’ she thought.A chorus of voices rang out in unison. "Chief."Jian Yu followed the sound with her eyes.It was Lin Yu and Shen Gu.Lin Yu put on a strained voice. "Jian, welcome back."Jian Yu was taken aback by his robotic tone. "Senior Lin, good morning."Lin Yu smiled, changing his form of address. "Good morning, Junior Sister Jian."Shen Gu waved surreptitiously. "Yu."Jian Yu blinked back at him.As they entered the main school gate, Lin Yu and his men cleared a path ahead."Hey!" Gu Qi yelled, blocked outside the gate. "You all forgot about me!"Lin Yu looked slightly stunned. "The Chief brought someone else back?"Ling Yanzhi said nonchalantly, "Arrange things for him personally. Bring him over tomorrow."Lin Yu nodded. "Yes, Chief."Lin Yu walked up to Gu Qi, his gaze not lingering, and gave a polite nod. "This way, please.""Thanks." Gu Qi rolled his eyes discreetly.’Are these people blind?!’’How could you not see a whole person standing right here?!’Pei Yin glanced back at Gu Qi.’So this is that little fanboy of his?’’Hm, I should get a good look at his fan. Maybe I can pull some strings for him later.’Pei Yin glanced down and saw a pale hand.He swatted Xi Yu’s hand away. "Please act like the Chief you’re supposed to be. Don’t just shadow my every move."As soon as the words left his mouth, Pei Yin, his expression unchanging, couldn’t resist glaring at Si Xu.’That guy’s ridiculously formal way of speaking all day is starting to rub off on me.’"Oh." Xi Yu straightened his back, a hint of dullness entering his tea-brown eyes.Pei Yin frowned. "What’s wrong with you?"Xi Yu’s lips drooped. "Tired."Pei Yin’s brow furrowed. He adjusted his hold on Jian Yu, hoisting her up a little. "What did those other guys do? Why does everyone look so drained?"Jian Yu glanced at the students who had gathered around but were being held back. She tugged on Pei Yin’s earlobe. "I’ll tell you later."Si Xu had been about to leave, but upon hearing that, he silently fell in step behind them.He drew a door in the empty air.The group walked through, re-emerging at the entrance to the auditorium.Ling Yanzhi stepped into a nearby express elevator. "To Zone Five."Si Xu’s expression changed slightly.Forgetting his jealousy, he quickly followed him in.Pei Yin’s eyes narrowed. "Ling Gou, you’re being weird. You haven’t taken a single shot at me since we got here."Ling Yanzhi leaned back against the glowing wall, arms crossed. "You talk too much."Pei Yin set Jian Yu down.He squawked in disbelief, "No way, don’t tell me you actually feel sorry for Si Yan?"He smacked his lips. "I guess it makes sense. You’ve lost an admirer. No one’s chasing you around anymore, you won’t be getting hundreds of messages a day. It’s only natural you’d feel weird and not used to it."Ling Yanzhi shot Pei Yin a look. "If you don’t have anything good to say, then shut your mouth."Pei Yin huffed, his heart doing flip-flops.The express elevator bypassed the villas and merged with the access point for the long stairway to Zone 5.The area was vast, empty, and silent.Si Xu vanished from where he stood.Xi Yu scooped up Jian Yu, tapped the ground with his claws, and vaulted through a skylight.Pei Yin opened the main entrance to the lab. "I give up! Can’t you people use the front door for once!"He muttered under his breath, trying to hide his inner panic, "I spent a hundred million on this door, you know."The door opened to reveal several people sitting in a row.Everyone’s expression, aside from Si Xu’s, was worse than the last.Sheng Yue, who had vanished the moment they got to the school, was now lying on an experiment table.’He’s not dead, is he?!’Pei Yin’s eyes flew open, a vicious glint flashing within them. "Son of a bitch, who did this?"He strode over, pulled out a device, and immediately began running various diagnostics.’I have to see if he can still be saved.’
